Well, I thought I may as well get this poster circulating around the neighborhood early as this years event has yet to even happen. Some inquisitive folks on this and many other forums I belong to are awaiting solid answers so here it is, the newly managed Stirling Flea Market with very good plans ahead to maintain the best Flea Market in Canada, please if you have any concerns or ideas as to any changes beyond food vendors or lack thereof get ahold of them . The Ag society is willing to listen and hoping to hear from a few vendors.. Oh yeah , and $20 /space to boot!
Chris.

Looks like I'm going to have to "pass" on this for this year. Too much going on, & not enough time to get it done. Body man wants me to shoot another coat of primer on the 52, mask off the dash & inner fenders, sand down the underside of hood,& OH Ya take all the side glass out so he can shoot the seams, door jambs & w/s area, etc. before we paint it. All this to be done for Monday!!! So 2 hrs drive to Stirling, 2hr. back + a few hrs. there when I "REALLY" don't need anything!! I'll put the time to better Use!!!

The Stirling flea market will continue for years To come now under the new management of the Stirling Agricultural Society. As the Vice President of the Ag Society I am pleased to announce the grounds will once aging in be filled with automotive vendors on the first weekend of May in 2013. We had a great recieption from vendors as we re-registered them to return to Stirling next year as the majority had very little interest in moving to Lindsey. I would just like to thank all the vendors who helped spread the word to buyers this weekend and who are coming back to Stirling next year to keep such a great event in our amazing town!

very good news. Had a great day yesterday my 17 year old found what he was looking for for his 65 Galixie and I found some stuff I didnt know I needed till I bought them. It was a long day up at 5 for Sterling bed at 3am after seeing The Reverend Horton Heat in Ottawa.

SWEEEEEET!! Excellent news, I couldn't make it this year, bought an RV for going and camping with some friends from Kingston, Odessa... I just wasn't ready, and I was regretting it.
The camper will be ready for next year ( I promise ). I might even have a few parts to pass along, if my project is done also.

I'll spread the news.

What a great weekend.we were vending at Sterling and it was a great weekend all around. The weather was super ,the spot was active,.Every body had some sales and made some money, found some goodies and spent some money and still had enough leftover for gas.T.J. found a posi rear end for his 57 and Fatstax found practicly everything for the rat he is building .Grumpy made it up on Sunday and last I saw of him and Susan they were going to check some vendors in the center section, must have found something good cause we never saw them again. This is a good size event and there was lots of good stuff at very reasonable prices,I realll enjoyed the more layed back feeling of this event.I was able to sell enough to finance some repairs to the 55 for the Armdrop on the 19th.We got to meet lots of old friends and say hi to some new ones .Said a quick hello to Lightspeed Mike and all in all it was a great weekend .Sterling is a good time event and I give a big thankyou to Chris for his work to keep it going .We are already regestered for next year, and once again looking forward to it . Thanks Ed,
Glad to hear you had yet another sucessful Stirling weekend. Nice to hear that everyone was doing so well with sales etc.. I really think the poor AACA members are regretting their choices tonight, as I had heard by Friday evening , the Stiriling g society had about a 75 % signup sucess and I'm certain they did much more on Saturday and Sunday. Even had one fellow in my general neighborhood pay to go to Lindsay unknowingly and ended up going and asking for his money back, drives right through Lindsay on his was to Stirling to boot! Sugn up is a great deal or a sort of initial thank you to the current vendors. If you have already had spaces currently this season ,you qualified for their offer of twenty dollars per space up front. this ensures the same vending spaces again next year, and when you arrive back next springyou will be reimbersed your twenty per space as a thank you for supporting the Stirling Ag Society. they are also working on a fair price per space starting for the following season and have ensured us that they will not excede the $50 per space we had currently been paying(more than fair in my opinion) and will have discounted it if they feel it is possible. The difference in this group is that they are more interested in their community as a whole, they realize what sort of revenues this event brings in to their quaint little town and also the amount of spending cash this also creates for the individual folks who have their annual yard sales with great sucess as well. I think you guys are going to like whats in store for the next 41 years. On a final note, I was very glad to meet up with the guys that I did manage to see and sorry that I missed guys like you Ed, nevere left my site this year at all during the show, very unusual for me but couldn't get away for the buying crowds !
Cheers,
Chris.

well what can be said, stirling was a great success, i more or less spent what i brought in and scored pretty much all the parts needed to advance on the rat truck project.  i met literally dozens of people i know, more then i thought to be honest.  there was much booze, thus no motorized bar stool to enterain the masses and the faithful.  next comes armdrop in two weeks and barrie after that.  we must do all we can to support the legit stirling flea market.  i heard both sides of the coin and i found that the decision to move the flea market was not thought out and looks like it will not succeed

Geez guys, you're making my head get big,ha,ha,ha.. I really didn't try to do anything other than keep our great little gem up and running here in the sleepy little village of Stirling.. I would have taken on the beast myself and run it if need be ,but am much happier helping out in any way I can and still manage to have my weekend to meet up with all of my friends and vend a few items from my site... I always love when some of the guys I've only met online need up showing up to meet in person. I can't tell you guys how much I enjoy getting to know all of you ... Please remember to look me up again next year and drop in for a chat... Who know's, maybe I have the next wall hanger for your garage too....

Chris.

That would have been my mention there Flatduck, Roy Splmes started th Stirling Flea Market on his front lawn in Springbrook, just north of Stirling . Passed away about three weeks back, just prior to the flea market. Was speaking with his son Keith at the market and he's fully convinced that the stress of hearing that the AACA was going to attempt moving the show that finished him. Roy had been through some tough times in the past year and was weak to start with, who know's this may have been the final straw. This I cannot answer, all I can do is hope that Roy is looking down on us and smoling because of the great news of its staying put with the help of the Stirling Ag Society.

Hey guys. Jason Detlor here of Stirling Ag Society. The Belleville intelligencer news paper run an article in today's edition. They obviously only talked to AACA members when they were interviewing people at the flea market on the weekend. I could use everyone's help to convince them to run another article that tells the whole story of the flea market and how it's going to be bigger and better next year STILL IN STIRLING at the fairgrounds. I wrote them a letter telling them the whole story. Shoot them an email if you get a chance. Thanks.

Great to hear Stirling is on still. Have camped there in the past for the weekend show/ market and helped my buddy at his spot. Did not get there this year:(

Flatduck, all it takes is to put out feelers around the area and see if some have stuff to sell. Set up tables in an empty lot and they will come.

Then if Stirling 2013 is a go then, then why is there still an ad in the newest Old Autos for Lindsay the same weekend? Are both running that weekend?

Yes the antique club in Lindsay is running the new show the same weekend as the 40 year old Sterling Market.

Thank you for the update workin class. I kinda figured that, but i didn't think they would be silly enough to do that on the same weekend with a new venue, not good imo, but anyways...each to their own. We'll see who the stronger of the two is i guess.

Still hoping that Stirling has the 'prefered' parking for the classic's?? As I said before most of us that go take the cars for the 1st, run of the yr. If that gets dropped, then most of us from this area will go to Lindsay!! Locals there say LOTS of parking on the grounds.

As the president pf the Stirling Agricultural Society i can tell you Yes we will still have preferred parking for the classic cars. Also I don't have much experience with forums but it would be great if the topic of this discussion could be changed to something a little more positive like : the Stirling Flea Market will continue for years to come. Just to let everyone know the grounds is going to be filled with more vendor sites than ever!

domt worry bro its nothing but positive, who gives a rats if the acaa thought they could simply move the flea market and everyone would follow, stirling is where its at. functions like this become a part of the local economy and cant just be uprooted so easily

I agree with this.  The title "Stirling Flea Market finished after 30 years" should either be changed (I think it is up to the original poster to do that) or remove the entire thread and start and new with a title that reflects the fact that the Stirling Flea Market is on for this year.

OK..Changed the title....When this thread was started, the word was that the Stirling event was moved...As the thread progressed, it came to light that it was being retained in Stirling by this other group.

Don't you worry Jay, we are here to cover your back . I think I've been possibly overly vocal for a guy who is merely
a vendor and not a member but this is how passionate we all are about your event. You really are the new guy to this
party actually Jay, the majority of us folks who vend there have been since before you were born more than likely...
Please keep checking back here, this is a perfect forum for all of the rest of you to add ideas and if you had any gripes
might be a good place to have them addressed, my biggest concern for this show is the fact that teher was never a good
food vendor to satisfy the Friday night move in vendors who have missed their own supper trying to get there later Friday
evening. Heck, most of the time when I was moving stuff in the Omemee Lions Club (?) weren't even there yet and when they
got up and running they'd run out of food every day, they only had 40 years to get it right... Staying open later on Saturday
night would also keep the vendors open longer, they shut down when the traffic leaves and then had to run downtown to
Jimmy's for supper. This too had been rectified last year as Jimmy had a pizza spot that I found out about when I went down
to his restaurant to say hi Saturday night,ha,ha..If people wander the grounds on Saturday evening, I know the vendors will
gladly stay open for business, we do this because we love it. Not because we necessarily need to. Jay, please come back with
a few of your ideas for future events as well, we'd all love to hear them bud.
Cheers,
Chris.

I was thinking Lindsay Swap meet that is run by old car guys and have never let me down in 32 years. Not sure what to think of a fair board running an automotive swap meet???????? I heard the fair board had to cancel their truck meet last year for lack of voluteers. If this is true and they have to hire the help then there goes the gate cost and no free vending. I also keep reading about all the farms in the area that you can park at but who wants to walk 2 miles down a cow path to get there and back carring parts.
Also at Lindsay where I can park my trailer and camp for the weekend on the grounds. Go to the flea market and I can take a break when ever I want sit back and have a beer.
I have been wrong before but I here the fair board would not guarantee AACA parking for 2013 so how can they suddenly they have parking unless they bus you in like they did at Auto Fest untill they got a better location. As you can tell I am not a vender and walking the swap meet is enough for me.

The rad guy in Frankford told us that the field that AACA used for a parking lot across from the Stirling swap meet west side is sold. If the fair board did not buy it where will people park now and not need a taxi.
Also I am told they gave the venders free vending 500 sites X $60. = $30,000.00 I am thinking the fair board are not going to run this for free so are they going to raise the gate fees or charge for parking like Barrie is now.

Hey Smoking Joe. Sounds like you've been talking to the AACA quite a bit Or you are a member. Just to clarify a few things for you: the truck meet that you spoke of was not run by the fair board, the lions club rented the grounds from us and decided to cancel it for reasons unknow to me. We will not be hiring any help. Our community has a large amount of volunteers and we will have no problem getting them out to help. I'm not sure what you've been reading but we have published nothing about parking on farms 2 miles down the road. If people wish to camp we have already designated an area for them to do so. We have recently developed a area of approximatly 8 acres of additional parking on the grounds. Parking is not an issue as some people have been lead to believe. The gate fees are not going to be raised And we will not be charging for parking. Entry will be $5 as normal. Good luck in Lindsay Smoking Joe!

Hi Jason
I was at Stirling and was told by officials that the Stirling fair board could not guarantee parking for the public in 2013. That is the bottom line why AACA pulled out. Not for the reasons that I see here people are posting.
Now a few months later you have eight acres more parking and you also have room for camping on the fair grounds. Please tell me some one is not being truthful with me like I read about the truck show in another posting.
I am an old loyal car guy ACCCC & AMOC clubs (do not reflect my post to the clubs please) as I know many people associated in cars having had rods and antique as you in fairs. I also read an article in Old Autos on how AACA spent thousands on the fairgrounds improving roads and giving you a free office building all well paying you rent to host their swap meet bringing in money to the Stirling economy. That is all good seeing they give all their profits to the community and charities like the $15,000. to the Oshawa Cancer Center that I read in another article. But the Motor City Club out did them by giving $17,000. to mentally handicap kids schools in Oshawa last Aug..
As for the two mile walk I was referring to Chris comments about knowing farmers in the area where you can get parking. Maybe I am wrong but I feel like AACA was not treated the right way after thirty some years of raising money for your community and never pocketing a dime being a non profit group and that is what people forget. You have to give them credit most being over 65 like the Lions and still pushing forward while people putting them down. I am sure some of your posters that have a shop would not appreciate competitor opening up a business across the road and coming in their shop saying to their customers come to my shop across the road and I will do it for free.
I also liked your comment about positive postings. Mark my words this hobby is coming to an end so in 10 years the next generation will not want an old car and they will be cheap so enjoy them. You only buy what you relate to.
I may be wrong but that is what I think about it.
