selling a car on kijiji

Is it me and my grumpy attitude or is it people out there  are getting lazier and more stupid everyday...recently had the 57  listed on kijiji and could not believe some of the replies i got...i specifically stated what i would trade for, yet people kept trying everything they had under the sun to swap me....i even had a guy telling me what i had was not a 57 chevy,,,it was a 55..confuse...And the spelling  or lack of in some replies...told one guy i was not one of his knuckledragging buddies and when he learned to talk / type instead of the "text" crap he should reply back in proper speaking terms. After numerous bullsh#t replies of yea yea yea, one guy finally came through..i actually forgot he had even called the week before, and yesterday he called, said there was a truck and trailer on its way to get it,,,,,so....5 hours later, it was on a trailer heading south and i had a pocket full of cash...no BS, no haggling,,,heres the money,,,gimme the title..handshake and adios.......my kind of buisness transaction..Anyways Mods, you can delete my post in swap meet..the car is gone.....now in the morning...dumb as i am and a sucker for punishment, i am on my way to Collingwood to look at a drag car......bringing the trailer  because you just never know!

no, you're right, people are getting more stupid everyday.

the world is catering to dumb asses, rather than make people think for themselves.

I had my ol lady,s ex trans am on kijiji . Just a 305 4 bl motor but still peppy enuff to get u in trouble .
Because it was a funky purple colour , I got more replies from people who just got their licence , or wanted something to drive to school in . On the second ad I put in . I put in , If your 18 , just got your licence , or looking for something to commute to some form of higher education . NO , your parents wont let you buy this car ..
The guy that bought it was about 45 ..77.

As useful as the internet is for buying and selling stuff, it has made people lazy.....All the time you see "Where can I buy this or that , online?"....Get off your a$$ and go to a store

When I sold the wife's Pontiac Vibe on Kijiji I had the same "B S" emails galore wanting to buy it BUT at a reduced price ie "want you car but will you take "X" amount" Replied "NO" did sell it to people in Whitby, they were the only ones to Phone, & come & look at it. After it was sold, I had e-mails for a mth. from one guy saying he'd "up" his offer after I had told him "WHAT PART of "SOLD" DON'T you UNDERSTAND!!! Most e-mailers are just fishing & if you fold they get a "bargoon" to FLIP. I see some adds saying they don't answer e-mails phone only!! Think that's the way to go?? may weed out the "goof balls" My buyer did call 1st. asked the correct questions & didn't make any offer till after his daughter had driven the car.

You're right, I had to put "NO trades" after being offered every useless item under the sun.  Also had to put "if your reading this ad it's still for sale" after numerous emails asking just that and then nothing.

Cloning is too high tech. I prefer a "sausage factory" metaphor... just grinding them out made from sub-standard ingredients.confusewink

Years ago when i moved from my first house i had an old "picture tube"31" tv, so i thought before i go drive down to the donation bin lets see if i can get someone to come to my house to pick it up and save me some hassles.

so i put an add on kijiji

31" tv $10 bucks.

i got some questions from:

does it have a remote?

is it h.d compatible?

does it have h.d.m.i connections.?

ITS A 10 DOLLAR TV PEOPLE!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?

kijiji is great as i have bought and sold a ton of stuff of it,but the wing nuts and time wasters can get annoying at times.

right now im selling a bunch of 235/261 chevy inline stuff and ive become more like "mr inline" answering peoples questions about these engines then selling my own crap!!!

i like helping but im not here to educate.

sheesh

I took my 55' down after all the stupid questions, trade offers, and general BS. The ad clearly showed the car had no floors in it, it was reiterated in the ad text, there is no engine/transmission (shown in pics and stated in text of ad), and its disassembled (shown in pics, and stated in ad).

Do you know how many idiots asked if it would make the drive home to XXX?

I agree with the kijidiots on kijiji. I have sold many cars and have had much better luck with ebay over kijiji.

What I hate is the sellers who don't put up a decent photo, post an asking price or fail to put sufficient details into their ads and then get pissy about questions that shouldn't have needed to be asked in the first place.

How about the sellers who they don't answer your phone messages or Emails. I get the fact people want one over the other...but SPECIFY that in your ad!

Then there's the ones "who are selling something for a neighbor or buddy"...I skip right over those...

I'm not driving an hour to get scammed, jerked around or drive off because the value wasn't in the buy. If you post an add on Kijiji, be prepared to be asked questions or be sure you have a rock solid ad that leaves nothing unsaid. simple.

With Ebay, everything is disclosed and the item is properly represented - Kijiji is loose and sloppy. CL is even worse.

I thought I,d bring this post back up insteada starting a new one . So troops , I,ve got 3 ads on kijiji .
who wants to guess how many texts I,ve recieved on the three ads ????. Lets start at nine frikkin million .
I have a rebuilt 700r4 for a 90 ish chebby 4x4 truck , has a part time transfer case an frt drive shaft , trans works fine , fluid bright red 250 bucks . The last text I recieved asked me if I t was a th350 , the one before that wanted a full time case , the one before that wanted a rear drive shafty . I think the one before that wanted to know if it could fit in a s10 ???.
On the other hand I,ve left two messages each with 2 guys selling 50 cc quads an 2 messages to a dude selling a phone I want . No reply yet
It took three massages to get a reply for some used crappy wheels for winter wheels for the womans grand cherokee
People if you put an ad on kijiji ,like check it once in a while
One dude texted me a three sentence long reply , but a sentence at a time , about ten seconds apart .
Where,s the emoticon for shooting your self in the head ???..77.

I have bought and sold probably a dozen cars using kijiji and even more parts.

It is bad, and borderline a waste of time. I recently started selling on ebay and favor it much more due to the simplicity of the transaction. Describe the item, put what you want. When someone pays, you ship it. Done.

I have an aquarium on kijiji with stand and glass top. Was about $300, they dont hold their value so I put it on for $75 to have it out of the garage. Easily 25 emails, mostly "do u still have it?" and thats it.

Yes,, you guys are not alone, this is i think very common.

Tried to buy a chainsaw from a guy locally on Kijiji he had a bunch of stuff on there, answered me back once, the ad is still on along with the other stuff, i said the hell with it, so have no idea if it is sold or not.

People are getting dummer by the day!!

Even some of the ads are worded vagely, pathetic that people are so clueless.

Have a few things on kijiji now. One is a Fender Jazz bass 1997 model. I fended off a scammer the other day and this was not the first time.My wife had a old pie-crust folding table, round, very ornate on kijiji a while back. A scammer did the e mails and correspondence like normal then sent photo copied money orders for $300 more than asking price. He wanted confirmation of getting them before his shipper would pickup. I took them to the cops with all corespondence. This last scammer used 2 different e mail addresses and wanted to pay with Pay-Pal and his shipper will pickup the guitar. Like E Bay, they can claim against you for items not recieved (shipper pickup) and you lose 2X .BEWARE> FELLOWS<BEWARE       John

I have bought and sold several vehiclas on kijiji some times it takes a while but if it takes too long I buy a top add for $20.00 for a week or two. If there is no interest after that I know the market is soft for what I am selling. I usually pull the add and try again in a couple of months and see what happens. But I alway end up selling what I have posted.

Here's an example of a poorly written ad;

http://guelph.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1969-AMX-rare-factory-2-seater-big-cube-car-W0QQAdIdZ397736373

Guy posts a pic of the car in question, but where you cant see it because of the el camino in front of it. Then he complains about low ballers, yet posts no expected value expected. He also lists insignificant details of the "not for sale" el camino...WTF??

Dude, if you want to sell/trade the car;

a) post decent pics of it

b) ask a price or dont whine about your past offers

c) dont post pics or details of things that arent for sale

d) include specifics - "big block" tells us nothing - what about the trans?

I totally agree - I never post my phone number for the same reason. If I get someone interested, I end up calling after - I guess its screening out those who arent really serious.

Then again, I may lose opportunities from those who dont like emailing.....hmmm

I still say having the "Potential" buyer call you ,the e-mail route just gives the idiots a chance to goof off on you,a phone call, especially if it's long distance, lets you know they are interested & not 'dicken you around"

Ya phone call is the way to go I don't respond if they don't leave a phone number and always give my work phone in my adds and add that I don't respond to emails without a phone number that eliminates all but those who are actually interested.Another thing that pisses me off is those who demand more pictures ,sorry folks you should be able to decide if you want to see the car by the pictures I post ,
i don't have time for picture collecters, catalogue shoppers,or people who want to dicker the price, on the phone,
without seeing the car. What ever happened to face to face deals. Ed

I somewhat disagree - if your potential buyer is coming from a fair distance, then I'd say extra photos are in order, or at least an accurate disclosure of what your car/item needs.

Even so, photos dont work if the seller doesnt disclose anything or know how to use a camera. I just learned this one myself after driving a 5 hour round trip chasing a "reasonably priced" southern pickup box. The extra photos I requested made it look like it was worth a gamble.

When I got there, I was gone after a 30 second look...total junk. Southern is no longer southern after sitting 10 years in the dirt. Holes everywhere. Again, I took the chance and went for a nice drive with the wife on a Sunday afternoon...with an empty trailer

Lesson learned; 1) dont trust that the seller knows what he or she is talking about 2) extra photos mean s**t if the person doesnt know what to shoot 3) Stick to a reasonable travel distance unless said prize is just too rare to pass up.

I love photos   I bought my 2001 2500HD from Texas  (20 photos)   bought my 71 Pontiac from Portland oregon (75 pictures) and my Jeff Gordon Monte Carlo from Connecticut  (30 pictures)   and they were all perfect   !!   exactly as in the pictures....
