Just spoke with a fellow that used to vend there, said he went up with his son, his "old spot" was EMPTY along with a lot of others,& they came home empty handed!!! Dale spoke with his old neighbours at spot & they said thats it for them TOO!!!! The buyers just aren't there other than the sock crowd, & they think that the buyers, are going to Waterdown etc where it's 99% automotive to buy!!! Dale also heard 'rumour" that Hainey was going to start charging for parking?? I thought he already did that??? Just passing this on as I haven't been for over 11 yrs. & it was getting bad then.

If that 7 UP cooler was white with a green 7 UP sticker on it and it was dented I watched him walk by without even a glance at my 2 booths full of vintage car parts.... As for partying all night I was asleep by ten every night.

Ed, you "nailed it" right on the head!!!  It's gotten out of hand, too many "non " Automotive vendors, & thats  Hainey's fault by letting them in [but money talks] Stirling & Waterdown etc. are the ones to go to,although I haven't been to Waterdown in yrs. It is fun to wander the rows searching for a part. but if you find it on line & price is right, I'll do that too, "buy it now" is a "SURE" thing. Barrie will have to change or "the bad news travells fast" fact will catch up to them. I know alot of vendors that gave up on it,too expensive for lot & too many sock dealers, but then you have the guys that go to vendor but just end up partying the whole time, & ruin it for their neighbours who want some sleep!!!!

I have a fun story from Barrie from several years ago. I spotted a pair of Mr Gasket (I think) totally clear SBC valve covers, thought they were cool but I didn't really need them. I added roller rockers and aluminum heads to my engine at a later date and wished I had bought the covers. The next year at Barrie, what do I see but those same valve covers still for sale (same vendor) ... I stroll up and ask the price ... seller wants $90. Hmmm, not really thinking they're worth that to me. I leave his booth and catch up to my wife who was a couple of booths ahead by this time. I tell her that I had found the covers I had spoken about but wasn't willing to pay the $90 asking price. She (who happens to be very pretty and rather large breasted) turns around, walks up to the seller without me (it hasn't even been three minutes since I asked the price) and asks buddy how much be wants. Buddy says "I'm asking $80 but I'll take $70" ... she bought 'em :)

Turns out they didn't have enough clearance for my roller rockers (rockers were contacting the side of the covers) so I tossed the valve covers into the loft of the garage. Several years later I decided to put them on eBay and got somewhere around $120 for them :)

I spoke with my neighbour tonight when he got back from Barrie ... I couldn't believe it when he stated there were TONS of snowmobile parts ... I thought you guys were just joking about sled stuff ... apparently not. He didn't find anything for his car but did by a vintage 7up cooler.

Just remembered another Barrie story. The wife and I wandered up to a booth (again, several years ago) and she picked up an old looking box with some kind of tester thingy in it with a big meter on the thingy. I remember the title of the contraption ... it was a Densometer. She had no idea what a Densometer was used for (I also have no idea) so (being the wise ass I am) ... I told her it measures stupidity (dense can also mean stupid right?) ... I then pointed out that the meter actually moved when she picked up the box (suggesting it was getting a reading of stupidity off of her) ... she then promptly put the thing back on the table, turned to leave and walked right into the tent pole. I then proclaimed "see, the machine does work". She has a great sense of humour so we both ended up getting a huge laugh out of that one.

Not that I was planning to go, but I'm glad I got pulled into a service call yesterday. Today was the Tyrods' event that cost substantially less than the fuel, gate fee and sore feet that Barrie would have cost. Ans a whole lot more fun.
Generally though, it looks like much the same comments as years past. Some guys torture themselves and come out with gems. Some guys get too pissed off sifting through the socks and end up missing the stuff they were looking for. Hats off to the guys that stick it out. Swap meets are still a whole lot more interesting than surfing through internet ads while sitting in your underwear.
Long live the swap meets...good and bad.

I found the place so darn big that all you can do is really scan for something that catches your eye. If you stopped and looked at evey thing there, you would only get to half the vendors or less.

Just got in. Made about 700-800 bucks for the weekend and am convinced the reason there are so many socks and t-shirt vendors is because thats all the buyers are buying. Watched people walk by and not even look at my vintage car parts. 9 out of 10 were just there to say they were there. Made a kids day by giving him a Rambler wheel cover when he told me that he and his brother were restoring it with help from his dad. The kid must have been only 11 or 12. Told him that I was glad he was trying to keep the rodding tradition alive. As for the weather I now remember why I quit selling in the fall.....

Went today despite the heavy rain and wind + the 4 hour drive to and from. Dad bought a Columbia 5 Star bike. I got a stainless air tank and a 35 Ford hood for the Rod. We got soaked to the ass! Not a bad day though. Still need socks and underwear.

Any one still at Barrie as of 3:30 today (Saturday)or going tomorrow???????????

I won a set of ratchet tie-downs at the Car Show just for voting on my own truck!
I can't justify the 4 hour return trip to pick up the tie-downs so if anyone wants them, thier yours. Just go to the people running the car show and tell them your picking them up for Ron McLeister (black 1948 Chevy 1/2 ton truck).

Enjoy!

just got in the door from barrie, it rained like hell yesterday and most of this morning, God, otherwise known as don hainney informed us it was going to clear up, and it did for awhile.  i sold some stuff, remarketed some stuff i bought thursday and walked the place about 4 times and found pretty much everything i was after for the rat truck so i decided to come home early.  the best score i must add is the 1962 375hp 327 i bought for 500 bucks.  buddy even googled the block number for me.  great success!

Some of the reports over on the Cdn. Poncho site were "less than stellar" for barrie. Said if you want snowmobile parts, they were plentyfull, lots of empty lots, lots of "non automotive CRAP" Glad I didn't go as I don't need or want any of those items!!!Guess some "shoppers' found some stuff, internet is surely cutting into this!! I found my emblems on the "net' didn't have to search thru unwanted "Sh&t or drive an hour & 1/2 ea. way!!! + 40 bucks in gas & another 10 bucks + parking to get there

gave up on barrie in the late '90s. got to the point it was at least a day out of the house, then wasn't worth that.

waterdown is indeed a 'good' parts meet.

Well......had some chilie cheese nachos last night and blew out the azz of my favorite underwear....

SOOOOOO off to Barrie we go....will be there on Friday, parked in the gold field by the beer tent.Gold 2k11... Stop by....and show me the great socks, underwear or smashed snowmobile parts you bought....well pull up a beer and listen to Hainey whine over the loud speakers ........

Going to Barrie is like hitting your head against the wall....it only feels good when you stop

Barrie is like a car accident...no matter how bad it is....you still have to go and see it

Barrie is like a one legged man in an azz kicking contest.....

Barrie is ........AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGG !

Been goin from the time it started in Molsons park ( Home of the largest grow opp in ontario ) a spot cost $15 bucks for the weekend....now the three spots my friends have.... with hydro .....are almost $1000 ! (Prime spot end of row right beside the beer tent ) they will never sell enough parts to cover the cost....they look at it as their Northern Ontario / Cuban vacation....8 guys for a week for a grand.....plus beer....just no bikini's...mind you....7 years ago there was a very healthy young lady that was selling herself (topless) with and any drunk jerk in the beer tent that wanted a picture with her for $10.....she was doing great business until Hainey shut her down....we had a great view

Anyway.....sucked into going for another year....good thing Waterdown is coming in 2 weeks....I can buy good parts there!

Spoke to a fellow at A&W Lindsay cruise last night & we got on this subject. He said his son was going "one last time" & price of lot was now at $ 260 Man you got to sell a lot of parts [socks, underwear & jewlery] just to break even on cost of lot!!!! & he also said that once your in,you can't leave early if you want to beat the rush!!! Isn't that "forceable confinment"? People are saying that Warterdown is the place to go for "PARTS"

Going to vend at Barrie for one last shot! gave up my family spaces 3 years ago that we have had since the first year at Molson Park after several crappy years of bad turnout and Nazi rules.

Perhaps this will be the last year, as I noticed that Waterdown has switched to the same weekend. It could be the death knell for Burls Creek flea markets.

Will post field and lot number when I know it, cold water or more available!

Is it really that bad now. Its been quit a few years since I've gone. Was thinking of going on Saturday for the day, but don't want to waste my time either. I'll be looking for mostly 70 Charger parts. Yup, went to Carlisle Chrysler meet too. Go or no Go?

I'm still laughing at this one, as my friend told me about the weedeaters all lined up at vendor & the lawn tractors & push mowers Etc. I don't 'really' need one of these, & kitchen sink is fairly new, so maybe I'll stay home & not waste a day getting through this "CRAP" looking for car parts!!!!

Just found the emblems I'm looking for, so may not need to go after all, if they are not broken when I go to do the deal. Wasn't looking forward to going past all the "NON AUTOMOTIVE" vendors on my search for these. Some of {past] vendors said there were a lot of empty spots at spring one, & they cancelled their spots for fall & weren't going back at all, 6 or 8 spots gone there in one go!!! Just from my home area alone.

She hasseled us about having a small fire in a chiminea. She drove right by and then came back because she didn't see the excessive smoke that was supposed to be coming from it. We pointed out the other OPEN fires that we were going in the brown field but they didn't concern her. She had me in her sights and didn't like that I talked back to her. Whatta douche....
