Rear Window Louvers
Permalink

I have a rear window louver I picked up a few months ago. The only positive part, is that they are Mopar. But I have know idea what Mopar.

I'm pretty sure they are not for Duster/Demon, or Challenger/Barracuda, kinda sure they won't fit a Dart swinger also.

I'll pull it from the rafters tomorrow and take some measurements. It is rather square, so I'm thinking it's for a hatchback.

Anyone have any other idea? It's a new item (NOS), never been installed, I have no use for it, needs to go to someone who needs it.

Inventory clearance, I have way too many bits and pieces I will never be using laying around, this one is to easily damaged...

There's a Mopar guy out there, looking for these.

They are aluminum.

Those look too short for that 024 - 9 louvers VS. 6 louvers.

I've got a buddy in the next town with a '68 Barracuda that would love that set of louvers. Get back to us with the width and height and I'll let him know so he can check his rear window size- it's a notch, not fastback.

His car was in Canadian Rodder Magazine last summer, I'll try to scan a pic.

Oh, I guess it's a '67 Barracuda:

^^That second photo appears to be considerably wider at the bottom and I think too many louvers. Gazoo's example seems fairly square in comparison.

So I just got some measurements, as you can already see from the pics posted earlier, this piece is relatively flat and square.
Most rear glass have rounded corners and a slight bow.

The width across, top and bottom is 43 7/8", no taper.

The height on the outer edges is 20".
There is a slight bow in the middle, were it widens to 21". If I throw a straight edge across the top, there is maybe a 5/8" - 3/4" bow.

Same goes when I throw the straight edge across the mounting face, maybe 3/4" bow.

Well after doing a bit more research, I just can't seem to find a Mopar rear window with that shape/dimension.

I'm starting to wonder, if maybe, it might have been a stray piece, mixed in with all the Mopar stuff?

It looks to me like it would fit a '70 Mustang, at least going by this pic.confuse

Nope, not Maverick either - too wide believe it or not. Maverick: 49 1/2 at top, tapering out to 52" at base. 71 Torino has a taper too, didn't even measure it. Good luck with your search, maybe take a tape measure with you to a cruise or car show?

are the hinges a paste on the window style or something like the bolt on mustang ones
fwd dodge were all paste on hinge and latch plate

yeah , could be mustang counting 6 slats in the pics - the side strip ending before the end of the bottom slat looks alike too

I really don't get the hinged part, as to why you'd need hinges, but they are on there, and they have clearance holes for mounting hardware.

Yet the vertical ends (both outboard sides), have two sided tape and foam on them. So once they are stuck, what's the purpose of the hinge, lol.

sounds like the latching system is missing

they would latch at the bottom and hinge at the top - so you can lift the louvers to clean the window

Interesting, I haven't noticed any latching system on any of the louvers I've seen so far.

Kinda odd that it would have two sided tape along the two vertical edges to hold it down, yet taking the hinge function out.

Maybe it's a '70's thing, along the same lines as Slim's signature.biggrin

mustang hinges
a mustang would use a latching system off the bottom slat that would resemble the rubber hold down thingy on a jeep hood - resemble but not the same

a fwd dodge louver would have a 1/4 turn zues fastener on the lower side of the louver that hooks to a paste on bracket stuck on the glass with the zues hook loop thingy on it

I think it might be from a 2nd gen F-body but its missing the side pieces.  I just sold one just like this one.

That looks like it could be it. Now I need to find the dimensions for that F-body louver, to see if that is correct.
I'd like to get rid of it, before it gets damaged. I don't want to throw it on Kijiji, not knowing exactly what it for either. I can just imagine the questions now...
