The main thing for me is really I cant go and blow the money for a dynacorp body all at once. On top of that, we'll paint a scenario. Paint and assemble a dynacorp body as you get it. They arent perfect. To build the caliber of car we are building cutting, modifying and aligning panels are almost guaranteed. So while the work is cut down dramatically youre still stuck fussing with crap.

Add in wheel tubs anf youre already cutting out brand new floors. Like dad said, turbo(s) and a t56 are probably going in so add more cutting to make all that fit nice.

So like I said, finances are the main thing, but all of this other stuff while it would 100% be a better starting point, lets me justify some stuff a little better.

If anyone really wants an idea of what im into money wise into the car, here goes nothing.

Car- 3500 This ill break down because of what im using and not using

Using- Back seat, 12 bolt rear 3.73 posi, shell,

some interior trim original pieces

Not Using/Selling - M21 4 gear and scattershield, engine (sold), seats(have 1 complete set to sell and 2 buckets, i only need the back seat)

Body panels so far 2000-2500

Various Shop Stuff 500 just to make sure.

I mean thats not comprehensive but the main

factor is doing it all myself to save money. When i bought it, i figured id have enough goodies to sell to come out even.

This is droning on, but hopefully it gives an idea.

I understand ... thanks for taking the time to answer smile

Reason I asked is I bought a 1980 Chev step-side years ago as a project.  Ended up replacing the engine (bought a rebuilt from Sears ... not kidding).  Ended up buying aftermarket doors,  front fenders, rocker panels, cab corners, one step fender ('glass) put a hitch on it etc etc ... painted it with Tremclad (this was no show truck, just a daily beater for hauling the sleds and dirt bikes).  In the end, after adding it all up I could have easily bought a mint truck (with real paint on it) for the same amount and been driving it the next day so I'm a little curious how this same scenario works for others as I always felt I'd taken the wrong route.  I do understand that early Camaro's aren't as cheap or available as they used to be.

Best of luck with the project.

Pete. I am doing the same thing as you but I have a different spin on it. I am going down south and bringing home an old Suburban. I am going to put a ton of time and effort into it and could probably buy something newer for the Same money and be on the road quicker. But after looking at what $10000 Canadian gets you in a Suburban, I figured I could build better for less. My wife is not so sure. Lol. We shall see.

I am heading to South Carolina this month to pick up an 86 c20 Suburban to make into a house/car trailer hauler.  Truck will be completely redone with 5.3 and a Yukon interior.  Or that's the plan anyway.

You had better look into the legal / insurance aspects first before you do that. You won't like what you find out.

We already have an 85 C10 on the road and fully insured with a 5.3 computer and fuel injection. No problem. Retained the pollution controls from the donar truck.

Since this is a build thread, I'm going to leave this subject before it goes into something else( there are lots of threads on the "something else" on this site).  We are building a 68 Camaro and a 67 Chevy II currently, we have already built a 85 C-10 5.3 swap and will be in the near future doing up a 84 Suburban with a 5.3 or 6.0 swap.

Thanks for looking at the thread.

Rich

Floors clamped in.  Almost just fell into place on its own.

Really nice.
If it drops in easily like that, it's pretty certain nothing is twisted sister.
