Importing from USA

I'm importing a 69 from USA.

I assume there is no date of manufacture date, or numbers on this.

How have others dealt with this?

I remember them looking for and finding this on another purchase, but kind of doubt this has such a tag.

This is a British motorcycle, but I assume the same rules apply as an old car.

Thanks for any help.

Are you saying you don't expect a 1969 British motorcycle to have a serial number or a VIN? I would assume it should and would be very wary if it didn't. How can they (the police, border guards, insurance companies etc) match any numbers on the ownership/registration to the bike if the bike didn't have a serial number or VIN? Surely a google search of "where is the serial number on a BSA motorcycle (or whatever it is)?" would answer your question. Based on your question, I wouldn't be in any rush to hand over money until you are sure this thing can clear customs.

Almost sounds like you're thinking of buying a bike with no ownership/registration/papers with the intent of crossing the border with it.

Not the VIN, the date of manufacture.
Two different things.

Sorry, I guess I don't understand what it is you're after as I've never known of anyone having to prove date of manufacture of any vehicle as the ownership/registration papers have always been good enough. Within the last three years I know of two people who have brought a '56 Chev and a '29 Model A across without issue. The paperwork matched the car (VIN/serial numbers) and that was good enough.

I have no idea why a motorcycle would be any different.

I used a customs broker to bring my truck over a couple of years ago. One of the better things I spent money on.
