There is a similar scenario living a bit north of my in-laws. Used to be grandmother, father, and son living together. Always traveled together in their car. Mother always sat in the back. Always parked their car off in the distance and angled across two spots when they went for groceries. Time passed and so did the mother. The car they drove looked to me to be a '66(ish) Pontiac but they also had a different car in the garage that I couldn't quite see. Their small house is in the country (with a small lot), well away from other people. Their property is fenced entirely and driveway has a gate (which is always closed). They used to lay a log across their driveway (single wide), right at the edge of the road so people couldn't even use the space between the edge of the road and their gate to turn around. I drove by when the "town" was there telling them they couldn't do that. More time passed and the father died. Now it's just the son. He is now driving the "other car" (don't know what happened to the '66) which is a mid-seventies Pontiac. Still parks off in the distance and crooked when getting groceries (I've only ever seen the car at the grocery store ... never anywhere else). Rarely, and I mean rarely see him out though. Used to see them pulled over on the side of the road (in the country) just sitting there. Between the grandmother, father and son (son who is now in his sixties at the very least), no one that I know is aware of any of them ever having a job. I have no idea how they have been able to survive (food/taxes/insurance) with no obvious means of income (although they could simply be playing the stock market from the comfort of their own home) and I can easily see a time when the son passes and isn't found for quite a while. You NEVER see visitors at the house. Come to think of it, it has been a LONG time since I've even seen the Grand Prix at the grocery store. Like my mom used to say ... "people is queer" (before that word meant what it does today).

You never know, you just never know ....

My year round daily is an early 80's Buick ... if I ever see the Pontiac at the grocery store I should pull in and see if starting a conversation is an option (about our old cars) ... might be an interesting fellow.
