ok im 30 years old totally missed out on the vanning craze of the 70s but i know for sure i should have had a part in it hahah i have had half a dozen vans and currently have a e350 busas well
that all being said i have wanted one of these vans for years and two years aho i bought this tossed the 17s on it to make it look presentable sitting in the yard collecting bird **** and some dust
now how it currently sits in the garage
plan was to start on it some what this winter but life yet again has got in my way so im not sure how much will get done on it but at least its dry now lol
so my plan for the old girl is a road trip cruiser for the wife and kids and i, it will be daily driven from may till the snow flies, so i want to make it a bit more modern etc
i got a huge table i built for the van that it will be on mid june(after vanfest car show) the complete floor is getting cut out a modern frame fro ma ranger( just the front portion the rear will be made by me) so no more live axle and front leaf springs, hello independant air bags and rack and peanut steering........i have a 32v all aluminum v8 thats going in it yes with injection ( i know some of you just shuttered ) but i want ease of parts location when im thousands of miles from home. the current trans i have is a 4speed but im gonna try to find a 6speed auto in the next while depending on money of course. air bags on all 4 corners big brakes and im making EVERY window but the windshield power(maybe the b pillar windows not sure yet) it will have a bed it will have air conditioning and heat it will be this and that and one day i hope i can make it come true if not it dies with me lol
i have a 32v all aluminum v8 thats going in it yes with injection ( i know some of you just shuttered )
The cool part of this site is we dont have set rules on how others build THERE projects because they are there projects. If asked we may bug each other but in all its not our project its about the fun. Diversity can be good and an open mind is good to.

I agree, we dont try to restrict what people wana build. Personally I think that sounds like a wicked plan. What are you thinking of for paint?
well paint is what i do for a living thank god.... if i had to pay to get this done it would never happen
i have different ideas for the pain nothing set in stone yet .. i made a tri stage pearl yellow its a one off colour i thought would be a REAL eye catcher since im trying attract some attention with thisthen i considered two toning it with a pearl black top and the yellow bottom
i have a scale model of one of these vans that is two tone metallic red and straight black i though of making it like that only with pearls in both colours( i love pearlif i remeber i post a pic of that model tonight
thirdly i made a sweet ass tri stage blue originally for my wifes mustang but a friend is doing theirs blue so she does not want to be the same so is doing something differentthe colour is hard t oexplain but its sweet
i have 18in 5 spoke rims for it i painted that are black with a blue fleck in it ill get some pics of them as well
Yeah man... this is a cool project!! I like all of your ideas.... This is your dream, as workin class said make it how you want! I like builds that are unique like this! Keep us up to date eh! Cheers
sweet lil Van . I was into the van craze ,way back when. Was always going to stuff a v8 into the midsection of my 69 chevy,back.....In my fiftys now,so..Do it the way you want it. Gotta please urself.
i totally forgot about the model pics.... first two are a 1/24 model i wont be going with dog dish and wide whites and the black on the two tone would be pearl or metallic if i went this colour scheme
this is a 1/64 dub city hot wheels size i really love the colour and the wheels are more along the lines of what i will be using......ill get some pics of the rims next time i head to my brothers.....
i did manage to get some small amount of work done on it stuff i can do for free since im poor lol
stripped the 1/4 and corner the front of the 1/4 is fugged it had some really asstastic work done at some point its streched and dented and way worse than the pic makes it look im not sure where to even start i refuse to fill it full of bondo like it was
this was a nice surprise more over used filler YAY
the right side looked like the left in this pic actually very happy with how well i did getting it all out the right side has been gone a bit more now and really i think some high build would nearly take care of it, im gonna work it a bit more...the left side is far to pushed inyou can see how the edge is rolled on the left lower edge of the tail light bezel im gonna have to use force i cant manage to push it out by hand
It does look sweet. Since those vans were designed to carry weight and not a family cruiser they were front heavy. If you move the new motor back from where the original was the weigh bias will be better for handling. Make it handle like it's on rails and surprise the guy in the Honda in the next lane.

ya i no all about the weight bias i got a 170 pound steel weight on the floor of my garage hahah
the new drive train is lighter than the old one, i have to watch where placement will be as to how short the drive shaft will end up being, there is not much there stock and the 3 spd trans is like 16in long,,,,,but it will handle well, on rail? unlikely but well indeed :P
working 60-80 hours a week is really getting in the way of me playing with my van, all the glass is now out of it and im slowly stripping the paint off it find all sorts of sweet surprises bondo, rust and bondo in rust hell even got some rust in the bondo
........i have a 32v all aluminum v8 thats going in it yes with injection ( i know some of you just shuttered )
What engine are you planning on using? Can I assume you have a Ford cop motor or better still a Cadillac Northstar.
My last late model car and my current one is a 4.6 HO 32 valve dual overhead cam engine and there is nothing to shutter at unless you are terrified from the power and acceleration. There is nothing that compares to the sweet sounds from a multi cam multi valve V8 at full throttle and my old car has a 454 big block with 2" runner long tube headers through turbo mufflers.

as for finishing it, no tan issue i have wanted this van since i was about 10, i may be 50 by the time its done but dammit its getting done :P

well i got my plates in for my van, im a bit sick but i laugh my butt off every time i look at them. also got a bit more stripped and found a bunch of SAAAWEEET surprises lol i knew the front was loaded with bondo i just didnt think it was gonna be this bad lol ah well i still am aiming at metal finishing as much as i can on this thing, little no no filler
my plates
yes every spot of paint and or filler you see is a low spot some have been straightened out already(not many) some are cleaned out of paint and filler already cause they were so bloody deep
drivers side corner was the worst pic does it no justice
prior to stripping out the bondo on the drivers side
ya most of my friends got bets how long before i gotta take the plates off once i start drivin the van hahahah i figure if nothing else they will be funny on the garage wall
ya they are stock mustang gt wheels, they were put on simply to make it look better than the 4 miss matched flats that it had while it was parked out side, i got 18's for it for the time eventually when its done also mustang wheels but aftermarkets that i tossed on my own creation of paint
i totally forgot about the model pics.... first two are a 1/24 model i wont be going with dog dish and wide whites and the black on the two tone would be pearl or metallic if i went this colour scheme
I like the single colour better than the two tone. The bright colour makes it really stand out.
Jeez, that brings back some memories!!1 Long time friend had one of those back in the late 60's early 70's when the "van craze" was on, had a 6cyl, 3 spd. with "bolt action" [3 on the tree] mags & interior done up. One day Jim "wound" it right out in 1st. gear, & "hammered" it into 2nd. & it actually "chirped' the tires, we both looked at each other in amazement, then laughed for about 3 blocks!!!! It was never able to that again!!! Ended up selling it as his "then" girlfriend, didn't like it,[ she's gone too]!!!!

as for paint i like the one colour scheme myself im a long way away from being ready for it so i got some time to make up my mind after i change it 40 times lol
Any updates??? Father bought a '65 Econoline SuperVan (has the extension on the back end) back in the late '60's from Highbury Ford in London. Came with a FoMoCo rebuilt 200 and it had the 3 in the tree as well. Used that van for about 15 years for his business before we decided to make some changes on it. We welded the back doors shut and the rearward door on the pass side. Wheel flairs and dual roof vents. I noticed after the welding was all done that we had swithed the left door from the rear and had used the pass side rearward door. Found out later that the cargo doors are the same ones used on all 3 sides. Built a bed/storage area in the back, insulated and paneled the interior. Took that van out to BC back in '81. Motor finally said enough is enough in '86 and has sat on blocks ever since. Still owns it. Forget what the mileage was on it, do know that it was somewhere around 500,000 mile mark. Contemplate on if I should go up north and drag it home. Lotsa memories! Think I was 4 or 5 years old when I got to sit on his lap and got to steer it down some of the back roads. To many other projects on the go..
