I got thinking about a car my Dad owned but sold about 10 years ago. He had it forever and I have lots of childhood memories with it and I thought it would be cool to try and find it again! I'd love to buy it back and fix it up (as that's what he wanted but never had the chance) Now that I have a family, it would be a great family cruiser!
It's a '67 Cadillac Coupe Deville... all I have is some pictures. Where should I start? I guess I could post on kijiji and maybe some forums... Is there anyway I can use the MTO, even to get the VIN # from when my Dad owned it? Any advice would be great... I hope it's still out there somewhere. Thanks
Hey Adslow I would get the vin# and go through the ministrey to find the last registerd owner. don't know if they will do that or not but worth a try. Or you could just scout around for another 67 and make a tribute car to your father.
Thanks for the help guys.... I don't have the VIN# or any paperwork for it (it all got cleared out after he passed away) but the insurance idea might work... I'll try that to see if I can track down a VIN, If I can get the VIN then I have something to work with...
Ideally I'd like to find the actual car, a tribute would be cool but there's something about the real thing :)
I've posted an ad on kijiji as well... I'll let you know what I find - Thanks
Good luck Adam....I would love to find my old 55 Chevy.....I think I have the plate portion of the ownership around here somewhere.....will have to look
Update : I tried going through the insurance company to get a VIN... no luck. They won't discuss policies in other peoples name - even if I'm executor of the estate (confidential type rules)... plus they don't think they'll have records from 10 years ago.
I did find an old note book of my Dads with some phone numbers from people that were interested in buying the car... I tried calling a few, and let me tell you I can't believe how rude people can be!!! I'm being polite and just inquiring about this car, and people are being ignorant?? What gives? So I didn't get anywhere that way either.... SO I guess I can try at the MTO to see what they can do... I just need the VIN and I'd have something to work with....
Something else I could mention... My Dad was living in T.O. at the time he sold it. The car would have been picked up in Lindsay, but the buyer could be from the Toronto area (most of the #'s he had in his book where 416 Toronto numbers) This could be a clue?
2inchestoolow - Where abouts south of Lindsay are you? You may have seen the car driving (although it wasn't driven much) or on King St. in Lindsay where it sat for a long time? There were no 905 numbers I found, and no names... Can you find out more info from "Greg"? if you can think of anything I'm open to all clues!
VirgilHilts - I have one pic with the plate (but last 2 digits are cut off) 992 B??.... I don't think I have any more pics but I'm still looking. Don't know if partial plate number will help??
UPDATE : Well I found my Dads old drivers license and thought I'd try my luck at the MTO.... went earlier today with the license, proof that I was executor of his estate and pics. And what do you know... they actually helped me! She looked up the Caddy with his license number, and got the VIN#. I then bought the UVIP which lists all registered owners.... Success!
My Dad registered the car in 1986 (I was 5 when he bought it)... then he sold it in 2002, but there were no registered owners listed until July 2011. Ainsley Romeo is listed as the current owner! So it wasn't registered for almost 10 years, then was just registered last year!! SO this tells me the car is still out there! The address for the current owner is in Cheltenham, ON which is just north of Brampton and about an hour and a half drive from me now. I looked up the owners name and got a phone number... tried calling but the number is not in service... lol That figures, of course it wouldn't be that easy!
I did get an address however, so tomorrow I might drive down and see if the same people live there? maybe they moved that's why the number is disconnected? So its another clue and another step closer!! Hopefully I'll know more tomorrow... or maybe even find the car! I'll let you know... Cheers
Drove down to the address today, pull in the driveway and see an unrestored 50's Ford truck sitting by a garage (good sign)... I knock on the door with paperwork in hand, but no answer. So I decide to write a note and leave it on the door, as I'm writing the note a car pulls in behind me! I get out and meet the guy, introduce myself and explain I'm looking for an old car my Dad had... Of course he's a little unsure of me (I'm waiting in his driveway and now I'm asking about some car?) But after I tell him more about the situation he gets a little more friendly lol... We chat for a while, and YES he has the Caddy... Except it doesn't look like the pic anymore. It's been painted white (he showed me a pic on his phone) He does restoration work and has other cars / trucks he's working on too and the Caddy is at the shop. He said he's got an appraisal on the Caddy for $8000... and he's not finished it yet. So I got the impression he's not really wanting to sell it lol... which is ok with me, it's cool to know it's still alive! I gave him my contact info and he said he'd send me some pics and stuff. Maybe even take me to see it... I hope he does get in touch, I'd love to see it again! But it's up to him now.... If I don't hear from him oh-well at least I found it (and its in good hands)... If I do get to see it - that's a bonus! Thanks guys for reading along!! I'll post more if I hear from him! Cheers!
Wow great stuff. Too bad you can't get it but like you say it seems to be in good hands. There was really nice early one ( 65 66 maybe) for sale in Acton in the fall but I think it has been put away or sold. It was white. I'm not a GM lover by any means but those cars still meant classy back in those times.

Carl - Yeah that would have been nice! but I did kinda show up at his house outta nowhere lol... maybe he'll contact me again and I'll get a chance to see it another time?
I did find another '67 Caddy for sale on kijiji in Burk's Falls.... It's identical to my Dads car (still the same colour too) only difference being its a rag top. It would be cool to get this one as a dedication to my Dads car! Don't think I have the funds though...
If anyone wants tro see my collection of Cadillac photos just say the word, We had Caddy's in the family and I have two right now so my camera just seems to snap photos of them.
when i was in the navy in the late eighties on the west coast i used to buy 60/70's caddies for daily drivers while i was alongside. when the ship went back out to sea, at that time i would sell them to a company called scrap king. i don't know how many i owned but i'm figuring over 30 over 3 years. sorry no pics pre digital at a buck a picture.
