Saginaw 605 steering box

My car now has a saginaw 700 variable ratio stering box. It drives well and steers nice at all sppeds but the turning radius could be improved. There is more steering travel available but the pitman arm's swing is too short to get that extra travel, so a longer arm would probably fix this. I am thinking of using a smaller saginaw 605 instead of the 700 , this might allow the box to be mounted closer towards the firewall and use a longer pitman arm. I've heard the 605 were not very good and have a tendency to sway around. Has anyone used the 605 with positive results? Does antyone have a 605 core unit I could buy to see if it would leave room for a longer pitman arm?
