A few guys from the Canadian Poncho forum have joined....welcome guys, glad to have you here. It brings up a subject in my mind.
Have any of you owned specific Canadian models of cars?...You know, Canadian Pontiacs, Beaumonts, Acadians, Monarchs, Meteors, Mercury or Fargo trucks, that sort of thing.
I have had a few...62, 65, 66 Canadian Pontiacs...2 68 Beaumonts...even had a Pontiac Astre, not bragging about that one...lol
i have a 1956 ford monarch custom (notice i didn t not say a canadian merc ) but cause it is a 4 door car i don t think anybody want to see it ..............i m actually the third owner on the car since i bought it in 1999 .......the other 2 were father and his son who got it from the estate................i had 3 ,1958 pontiac laurentian for a while now i got only one left
I owned a 51 Merc. P'up before getting the 64 Catalina. It had a 350 SBC Borg/warner 4 spd. Dodge Volaire T/bar frt end & ford 9" rr. end. The present owner of this truck in Stayner??[ just south of Barrie] tracked me down to ask a whole lot of questions, as he didn't know much about it & seller knew even less. It was "FAST" & handled well after I put the new frt. suspension under it, before that, "white knuckle" steering & hold on for dear life!!!

66 Pontiac "Strato Chief" 2 door, Jr Stock 283, 2 barrel , shift kit and 4:56 rear, car was street driven and ran 1 second off the NHRA record at the time. (1970-71 at Dragway Park, Cayuga.
My Canadian car was a 56 Pontiac Laurentian .They were about 8-9 inches shorter than the American Ponchos and were a couple of inches narrower as well .The difference was because the American ones were built on Olds frames and the Canadian ones were on Chevy frames.Nothing fits from two differend builds fenders hoods bumpers lots of differences.I belive this stopped in58 and all Pontiacs were then on Olds frames .Oddly I also owned a 63 Grand Prix that as I understand were never sold in Canada. So it would seam Pontiac provided both Canadian only and American only.I also belive all Pontiac sedan deliveries were made only in Canada .Fun topic Poncho keep em coming. Ed
Oh flatblack, you are going to get it now.....lol...These guys from Canadian Poncho are going to tell you that full sized Canadian Pontaics were built on Chevy frames right up through the 70s.......The American cars of the same years had a different frame, not sure if it was the same as Olds, but similar.
Hey I can take it Poncho my wife says I've been wrong before ,I just don't remember when but I will admit to needing the ocassional attitude agustment. Ed

I did not own it but my father had a 1969 Meteor Montcalm S-33 2 door HT It had a buckets and console with saddle shifter basically the Ford XL-GT interior. There were only about 450 made plus 150 or so convertibles.
It was identical to the car on the brochure brown with white top an interior black dash( maybe that was his! ) I'd like to find one like it maybe but my dad complained it was underpowered with a 351W in it. His next car was a Marquis with a 429 4V dual exhaust. It did not disappoint him!
I have noticed over the years that nowhere on a 50's & 60's Bonneville or 60's Grand Prix does it say Pontiac but they were sold through Pontiac dealers and never labeled as such.

I have a Mercury Pick up, which is Canadian only. I must say that it was a nicer looking truck than the Ford counter part. (Even if they are both ugly IMHO) The Beaumont is Canadian but it is not a Pontiac. I used to have a customer with a 68, no where on the car does it say Pontiac. It was sold through Pontiac dealers but was never labeled as such.

You are Correct..
The 1962 and up Acadian, was built as a separate marque, without any reference to Pontiac (but only sold at Pontiac) and the models became Beaumonts, and did until 1969...
Today the Acadian and Beaumont, have legally blended into Pontiac.. (like it or not)
This often happens with brands
GM Historical and most provinces and Canada and U.S. Customs have changed their computers and mind set to Pontiac.. (I have experience and documents)
I had never thought about it until 2008 and only recently understood what had happened.. There are not many left of the original cars, but they all seem to have good homes...
Get the Meteor grille too! I sold one to a guy in Boston Ma. There are a few guys building Starliners that want the Canadian only grilles to be unique.

what happen with the pontiac logo right in the center on the green ?.............don t have to have the pontiac letters on the car...............my 56 monarch was sold at ford dealers and no where on the car will you find ford but you go look on the ownership and it says Ford ....................and the builder plate says Ford motor company of canada plant build also is in canada not usa................so really the plant where the car was build is what makes the car canadian model or usa
my 3 toys are all canadian only my 55 gmc is a 9300. short box, step side, 1/2 ton built on a chevy chassis. an american 55 gmc would be a 100 series, different rear axle and a pontiac engine are the only things that come to mind that are really different. 63 acadian beaumont wagon, built on a chevy II chassis, definitely canadian only. 70 2+2 pontiac convertible, built on a impala chassis, definately canadian only.

Friend in high school had a 69 Pontiac 2+2. Chev chassis and SBC. The motor was on display in our autoshop class after he let it run out of oil on the 401 near Keele and sent a rod through the block LOL

I had a nice 69 Laurentian 2 door hardtop which was the inspiration for starting Canadianponcho.ca . It had been in storage since 1978 after a complete strip to bare metal paint job. Nos bumpers, trim, weatherstripping, emblems were installed at that time.
1978:
2007:
I had a 58 Dodge Regent. The Regent was built only in Windsor. The unique thing about Canadian Dodge's was the fact the car was actually a Plymouth from the cowl back with a Dodge front clip. We affectionately call them "Plodges"
I replaced that plastic fuel filter as soon as I bought the car1
I also had a Hamilton built 64 Studebaker Daytona
Studes had this cool vanity glove box:
I'm sure these aren't the last Canadian cars I'll ever own.
Pretty sure this is the same car. I took this photo in the staging area for the big Berkley Parade which was held Friday night on the Woodward Dream Ctruise weekend this past August. I know the current owner. He wins a lot of trophies with the car.
