Thats been the price here in Sudbury for the past 6-7 years...Maybe it's been awhile since you've bought gas??? Just paid 96$ to re-fill my 1/2 size Argon for the mig a couple weeks ago. It is what it is.

so i swung by the welding shop to shot the breeze. the scuttlebutt is that the buffalo calcium chloride plant blew up a year or so ago also canada has closed all acetylene producing plants. what this means is acetylene is coming from ohio or further such as texas. so factor in trucking plus all them other surcharges. also keep your eyes on helium because its only produced/pulled out of the ground from 2 locations texas and russia. as for argon, the price hasn't really changed but he did say if they keep on adding surcharges such as fuel, energy (yes energy) and environmental, its also going to creep up but as of now not a lot. medium bottle of argon is $83

Is anyone using propane instead of acetylene? Most of the websites I’ve looked at say you can’t gas weld with it (although I’ve seen some sites that said you can) but I’m interested in it just for cutting and heating. I know I’d need to get better hoses and different tips or buy a new set of torches specifically for propane. Anyone had any experience with it?

I use Oxy/Propane at home...CHEAP fuel, cuts well for what I use it for. I have welded with it but Acetylene works better.
Done it for years, it,s not quite as hot as accetylene, but works ok. A bit more noticible when cutting plate as it is a bit slower, but certainly cheaper!!
The only thing i had to change on my torches was the cutting tip, got it from the welders supply it wasn,t expensive. Brazing tips still work as they did with accetylene. If you wanna switch just drop by your'e welding supply they'll sell you the cutting tip.
Getting expensive with the yearly contract, the Hazmat fee, the ECO tax, and HST!!
WHY do we have to pay an ECO tax on Oxygen????????????????????????????
