Wondering what weird or unusual engine/body combinations you,ve seen?
Years back one i saw was when two guys came down from London on a sunday, to drag race the fastest cars in town,, and the strange one was a 62-63 plymouth 2 door, powered by an Olds 425 engine, (think they were rated at 365 Hp.)
Olds engine with the olds automatic.
The other car was a 65? ford with the 406 engine and four speed which wasn,t an unusual car, but the thing i always remembered about this day was when the 406 Ford went to leave the line, it was in Nuetral , and was badly in need of a "Rev Limiter"!! Lol
Heard after that the guy with the plymouth/olds combination worked at Gord Chant's Auto wreckers, so the engine/trans could have came out of a wreck, and was installed in the plymouth.
Way back in the 70's when I had my Nomad, we were at Bingmans park [Kitchener] at a Tri Five Chevy show & I saw a 57 chevy 2dr. htp. with 2 four speeds hooked together 1 behind the other & 2 shifters up thru the floor!!! Owner had "stump Puller" gears out back & said he could "pick" any ratio he wanted!!!!

Wow, Pete , now that "is" a strange project in my books!!
A bit O/T but there are still a few old Massey or other makes of tractors with the old 235 Chev sizes in them. And then of course there is the V8 conversion kit for the Ford Flathead into the little 8N tractor, and somewhere i saw one with a 289 or 302 in one.
Years back i put a 394 Olds in a Chev pickup, and there were a number also with the Cadillac switch. These combinations were fairly common , and were nice drivers with the automatic.
Remember the "Studillac" conversions?
(Ya gotta be "Old and Crusty" to remember those days!) Lol
was parked beside a 56 ford 1/2 ton in syracuse last year with a cadillac mill in it. can't remember how many big olds 455/turbo400's that we junk to put into 67-72 chev/gmc's

weird or not ? ...for me it is the a car my dad owned .........a 1960 T bird that the previous owner spend lot of money to modified and fit a 426 hemi in the engine bay ...........i took a lot of rides in it................and i sure have lot of racing story of things that happen with that car , it sure was a one of a kind back than........even the story of how he got the engine for some would be hard to believe..........i sure wish i could find the car but i really doubt that it survive
I did an Olds. swap a few yrs ago too, 81 Suburban, bought with no d/train & I junked a 79 98 with a "fresh" 403 & turbo 400. Man would that "burb" haul A$$ with the 403 in there, & great tow vehicle TOO!!!!

The Olds 403 is a good engine, it is despised by Pontiac purests because it found its way into Bonnevilles, Can Ams and Formulas & Trans Ams. It's a torque master just like most Olds engines. Your old Suburban sounded really neat Pete.
When I was sixteen I had bought a really nice little Dodge Arrow with a bad motor, had a low miler rotten Pinto Wagon given to me by a school teacher so we swapped the drivetrain in to the Arrow, my friends called it the Pintero,ha,ha...

A friends dad had a new mid '80s chev pickup with the Olds block diesel in it. The dealer replaced the motor twice but on the 3rd try they denied the warranty so he pulled it and dropped in a 4 cylinder Perkins. His dad is gone but the truck is still running around. Another odd one was a 455 Olds and transaxle from a Tornado that we put in an '80s Chen pickup, stretched the frame, changed the rear axle to tandem trailer axles, built a deck and hauled the race car, a big block, tube chassis Vega. They were sold as a pair and have no idea what ever happened to them.

There used to be a guy that ran in Grand Bend with a K car (late 80's Plymouth) with a 454 in it. Not sure how the K unibody stood up to that, or how he show horned it in there, never got close enough to get a real good look.
Back a few years ago there was a Chevette w/a454 in it up here at the "Follow The Money Tour" Drag races that ran. They had just come back from The wheel standing competitions in Norwalk Ohio i think it was, The sheet metal was in Lumpy shape as they had put it over backwards onto it's roof, but made a few bucks down there.
They were on their way home and stopped in, think they were from possibly E. Ont., or Quebec?
There was a video of it on here ,can't remember how i found it.
My 49 Anglia has a aftermarket straight axle, leaf srings are from Princess Auto, 40 ford spindles, s-10 disc brakes, dodge omni steering rack, 57 ford tierod ends, s-10 steering column, chevy motor/tranny and a dodge 8 3/4 diff ......
Come on with me in the WAYBACK Machine. There was a guy in London, about 1968/69, with a Morris Minor that was supposed to have a 394 Olds in it. I saw the car several times, never saw it run. Don't know where it ended up. The guy that ran "the Hemi Shop" in London had a 392 Hemi in his 57 Dodge Pickup/service truck and he had a Honda 600 coupe with a Corvair flat 6 back in 60's. (Google image of a Honda 600 coupe) Doug McMullin Shell on Dundas had a 48 Ford 1/2 ton with a Nailhead Buick back in early 70's. There was a Falcon Ranchero with a 396 in it about 1973/74 in London. That was a quick ride.
There is a Morris Minor somewhere around Newmarket/Keswick/Holland Landing. It's running a fairly stout Small Block Chevy. A friend says he drove it after doing some work on it for the guy. Said it flew. I have seen that Morris Minor, but I always wear rubber boots around the guy that claims he drove it. One of my current peeps has a 53 Meteor sedan delivery that had the flatty yanked about 1960 and a 283 installed. It ran that 283 until about 2010 when it was upgraded to a 350. 283 was adapted to Ford 3 speed with a Gen-you-wine JC Whitney adapter. 350 is running a 5 speed.
There's a 67 Ford F100 running a 472 Caddy around Thornhill. Nice job on that one. Even painted Caddy Ford Blue. Looks completely stock.
There was a Cougar running around London with front wheel openings installed on rear openings because 1/4s were not available. The brothers that did it threw driving lights in the grille, painted & striped it. Last time I saw it the then owner was claiming it was a "Shelby Cougar" 1 or 1. It had a 351 Windsor with a 2bbl carb. He even had a sign made to support the "Shelby" claim. Google that one. Those same brothers put Z28 badging on Novas and various 6 & 8 cylinder Camaros and sold them as, you guessed it, RARE U.S. models.

was short term storage. 350 now in jeep. tunnel ram is on a 427 destined for 63 acadian and 454 is in 70 2+2
Sounds like they've both found good homes. The 350 must move a Jeep along just fine.
my 55 gmc had really low compression on number 5 so i've yanked the 283 and installed the 350 out of the jeep. the 283 is sitting on a engine stand waiting for me to get to the heads this summer. to make a long story short i had a 409 on the stand which is now in the jeep.

i never thought about it till tonite but i have perhaps the weirdest combination of all, i have a 76 jeep j 20 of which i made into a tow truck. considering its an amc product, it is a combination of the big three auto makers and given the day of the week is was made it could have any number of motor tranny and component combinations. as well i installed a small block chev and np 435 transmission and a one ton rear diff from a ford short bus, firebird steering column which bolted right in. front brakes are chev 3/4 ton truck and front diff is a dana 44.
This isn't weird or odd but I thought it was different enough. When I got my 68 Chevele it was a 250 six cylinder with powerglide. To be different (cause I'm not a muscle car guy) I opted to build up the six to (supposedly) 300hp with a 200-4-R tranny. It got a lot of second glances as most Chevelles are V8's. After going to the CanAm Chevelle meet in Stratford in its first year, so many of those Chevelle bozos sneered at my car that it put a sour taste in my mouth for Chevelles. I slid a 350 in it just to try and sell it and I still have it. Gonna hang onto it for my grandson I guess. If I could figure out how to attach a friggin picture, I'd share the six cylinder photo with you all.

Mated a SBC350 to an '83 Caddy Seville and put the package in backwards(pulleys face the rear) in my mid-engine car. Couldn't have 3 reverse gears and 1 forward gear...so had to flip the diff. You'd think GM would make the bold pattern symmetric on the diff. Not a chance on your life.
Here's a few pics.
That stub shaft had my head scratching for a while. When you flip the diff, rather than the shaft going under the pan...it had to go between the journals.

Years back, i'm talking 40-50 years ago , Lol, anyway, the older Ford dump trucks, single axles,,,i seen a number of them converted over to the 322 Cu. In, Buick nailhead engines. Apparently somebody sold an aftermarket kit to mate the Buick engine to the Ford transmission.
All through the 50's and 60's MANY street rods ran Buick Nailheads, the 322, 364, and the 401.
There was a guy that used to run at St Thomas named Alex. He had several gorgeous street & strippers, but the coolest one was the Chevette with 400 SBC & 4 speed stick. Fit & finish was excellent. Another guy ran an Austin mini with a 340 rwd, drove from back seat, drag car. A Vauxhall Viva with 350 Chevy & Stock car headers (out passenger door) drag car. Loved the odd combinations on the drag strip, but that's not as odd as on the street.
One of the Roberts Bros of Markham area built an Aries K car 2 dr with a 440 & A/C as a cruiser. Looked factory. A guy in my car club (Back Alley Cruisers) put a 440 in a Horizon 2dr. welded shut narrowed & tubbed, bullet fast!

Gary & Larry Turner, Mount Bridges/Delaware area, 1 had a T Bucket, 1 had a 57 Chevy, the brother with the T Bucket built a Cab Over Kenworth? on a Pickup chassis and cruised with that for a while.

Glass front end, cut wheelwells for big tires, firewall cut back to move the engine back a couple inches , always had slicks, and 4:11s and weighed about 2600 lbs
Originally built as a straight axle gasser with a fully built 300 ci truck 6 in it with a clifford 4bl and a 4 spd - was one of the fastest cars in the area for many years.
I got it at age 17, put a 390 in it, then a 428 Shelby with 2-4s and 4spd, then a 455 olds cutless motor and turbo 400, then a GTO Judge 400 motor and 400, then a Boss 302 with 2x4 and 4spd, then I clipped it with a 69 firebird subframe, and put a 283 and 2 spd powerglide.
The Boss 302 was the wildest combination and would pull the wheels in 3 gears.
Craziest ride ever - rear window was down, and I hung the wheels through the intersection from a 1st gear launch at 5000 rpm, and my friend sitting in the back seat somersaulted backwards and landed with his butt hangin out the rear window, , right beside the police station in Peterborough ;o)
