ok, i have a 55 chev front axle genrousley provided by sacotu, i am converting it to 5 lug disc rotors for the rat truck.  i bought mid seventies monte rotors and bearings.  what i discovered is the outer bearing fits perfect, the inner bearing is about 30 thou under.  i have read that you can emery cloth the spindle down to fit, but emery clothing 30 thou seems a bit much.  what i did discover is i could machine the bearing inner race to fit. i didnt think this possible but i can hold the bearing enough with the lathe and of course, bearing races are softer then carbide.  i was able to turn enough off the inside of the race to fit the 55 spindle.  once i make some spacers i will be in business.

The only downside to that Rob is that you have to do this every time you swap bearings. If you have to swap bearings that is! What about chucking the spindles in the lathe and turning them down instead?

I suspect he is talking about a Chevy truck......I did replace the ball bearings on my 55 Chevy car with later roller bearings from a 62 Chevy....bolted right in

ok i did some digging and i found that the chev front brake conversion uses a different bearing and a spacer made by these companys who sell these kits.  the bearing is an A13, which has the same od as a stock monte but a larger id, the spacer they sell adapts the bearing and picks up the monte dust seal as well.  i considered making these adapters myself but i bought them for 40 dollars for the pair plus shipping, not worth my time to make myself.  i put together a $400 kit for disc brakes for around 160 bucks.  you are only paying sombody else to assemble this for you
