Your top is "likely" shrunk!!! Either put the car out in sun, or use the "wife's" hair dryer on it. You should "NEVER" leave the top down for long peroid of time. My neighbour does that w/his 67 Camaro, leaves it down all summer, then when he goes to put it up for storage it's 3 to 4 " too short & too cold for it to stretch back!!! Another friend has a Cutlass rag top & puts it back up everytime he's parking it in garage & has never had that problem!!!!!

If its a canvas top, it will shrink. Just but it out in the sun, and when warm close it up fully. If it was installed properly it will stretch out and latch.

Another thing about leaving it down all summer is that it will wrinkle up BAD, Brian's Cutlass has no wrinkle's & Len's Camaro has a TON & won't come out!!!!I think it comes down to being LAZY & it shows, for the time it takes to hit the switch, & put it up!!! Yae you do have to undo the "BOOT" but hey, it saves the top!!!

The latch can be replated if taken to the right chrome shop. Be prepared for an expensive ride though, pot metal is a bitch! Cambridge Custom Chrome or the Plating House in Concord are the two to use, stay away from the shop that plates taps for your favorite plumber.... Pot metal can just disappear in a plating tank if they don't know what they are doing... As for the top, don't get too excited this time, it will come back for you if given a bit of warmth and maybe a gentle helping with your hand n the header while setting in place, just don't leave it down for long periods of time.

It will cost you $80 just for the free estimate at a Chrome shop these days, did you ever get the top up anyway? Maybe giving the top a try when both doors are open will gain a bit too? Then you can close the doors and help the top to stretch again..
