There are 106 miles to Chicago. We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Can anyone recommend a good powder coating place, in the Kitchener/Waterloo area? Yellow pages are great, but I'd prefer doing my research the cheapest way..., knowing someone who has tried certain places. Saves me some time , not having to get stuff re-done not to mention money.
I have some front end parts, upper/lower tube control arms etc..., maybe even a 9" rear axle, if they can handle it.
I'm willing to travel a bit also, Woodstock, Milton. Heck I might be even able to swing dropping parts off on my way to Kingston or Cornwall, and pick them up a few days later, on my way back.
I have had both powder coating and ceramic coating done by FIREBALL COATINGS in Erin On. You can check their web page -- www.fireballcoatings.com Phone - 519-833-2628 - e mail -- fireballcoatings@rogers.com
Mark Stevenson is the owner. I am very pleased with with quality, service and price.
I have used a few in the area and it depends on the size you need done. Here in New Dundee there is Ritz Technologies that do a good job at a reasonable cost. They are the first building on the right when you come in from Petersburg. For larger pieces such as frame rails Westex Coatings on Colby Drive in Waterloo are good. There are a few others in town but these are the best I have found.

Perfect, right close to home. I've been wondering for a while, as to what they did at Ritz Tech.
I've contacted Westex before, so now I know they do good work.

That's some decent size pieces there, looks great! Perfect area to get powder coat on.
Have you thought of doing them yourself? Eastwood sell the powdercoating gun, powders and an IR panel for curing, this is what I did. If the parts are "paint ready" hang them from the garage ceiling with coat hangers, apply the powder which is easier than using an aerosol paint can because you really can't hang a run, move the IR panel into position and cure the powder. Curing takes the longest but still wouldn't take more than a couple hours total for what you want to do. After you do a few jobs, your money ahead and have everything on hand for future jobs.
I had looked into buying the equipment, but wasn't sure how good the product Eastwood sells would actually work. Most powder guns are easily double the price. Nice to hear it works good, I might just do that, as I always prefer doing the work myself. I was saving an old kitchen stove for the longest time, for that purpose, but recently got rid of it.
I have a Caswell unit. It's okay I just use it for little brackets and the occasional spindle, caliper etc. My brother worked at a company that made powdercoat. He brought me massive bags of test samples :^) silver, black, gray mainly.

I was just looking @ Caswell's website, I'm taking "OLDKOOT's" advise and I will do it myself, so I'm shopping for a decent kit at a reasonable price, and will likely do some on the side just like polishing.
I like to buy Canadian as much as I can, the shipping companies are just getting too damn greedy, when it crosses border.
just another question do you prep it or do they,,,,blasting cleaning,, got a bike frame done 20 years ago at a place in missisaga can't remember the name, they did indusrial stuff so black was were it was at,cost large to change colours because they had to perge the lines but i am a big fan the stuff is as tough as nails,,if your flatheads get that hot you got bigger problems,,,,jim

They clean & prep. After talking with some flathead builders in US, have been told that with new modern water pumps, rads, fans, and coolants, overheating shouldn't be a concern. Not much different then painting. I'll be running gauges on the heads, and if heat's a problen, I'll change heads. Didn't get my pipes today, so not sure what i'm getting
GAZOO: Caswell distributor / store is in Palmerston. Just a short drive. www.caswellcanada.ca
Similar line of stuff to Eastwood, and no exorbitant shipping if you pick it up.
Lots of buffing / coating / restoration supplies.

Thanks for the reply Oscar, I already had a look at Caswells' kit, and they look fine.
I would rather get someone to do it for me, someone who might have bought the kit, and I could throw a few $ there way, to help offset the cost.
I just don't really need to buy more stuff, to use it once or twice, then have it laying around.
My Uncle Bob is a retired Mechanical Engineer. He does powder coating nowdays. He has done some rare 3 piece magnesium BMW wheels, and is currently doing some work for a vintage Ferrari. He currently owns a 1991 Ferrari Testarossa that he got with under 7000 miles on it. He powder coated those rims as well, they turned out great.
H traded his cherry 1969 Dodge Charger "500", dual quad Hemi, 4 speed, D60 with 4.10's. It's a 1 of 27 built.
