Good link, thanks for the memories. I have a few pics, I need to scan of some of my rides, late '70's very early 80's. Yup, shackles and traction bars, don't forget the rear coil-overs and the 60's in the rear.
Thanks for posting this site Poncho!! Sure brings back a lot of memories!! Some gorgeous cars shown there, and to think about it today, almost every town/city had cars like that cruisin the main drag and A&W etc. Some of the serious guys mostly hung out in service stations, or garages/dealerships etc, it was VERY common to drive to another town at night, and there they were, parked, yakkin cars etc., tank full of Sunoco 260 ready to go out of town to the local marked out 1/4 ,takin on a new or out of town car , headers open , the mighty roar of the engines echoing across the country side, then a quick exit back to town via a different route before the cops arrived. Most of these cars were owner built, and the paint jobs were beautifull, pride of ownership, and care were lavished on the cars.
Man, those were easier days, we all had our health, could stay up all night if something was going on, and still be at work in the morning. The serious guys, the car came first, girlfriends came second!! Lol
Brings back memories of the McDonalds at Warden and Sheppard ...hanging out, street racing on the 404 or 16th ave in the middle of the night (with some cars being trailered in with "open tubes" and slicks) ... the odd trip out to Weston and Finch. Cruising Yonge street downtown Toronto ...
Back in the late 60s my school nurse drove a pearl white and candy ribbon painted 67-69 Barracuda. Anyone remember the car ?. I went to G.B.Little public school from 65-71. Any one have vintage hot rod shots from back in the 60s and 70s?

Had air shocks on my 70 SS Chevelle......With them pumped up, there was no traction and got severe wheel hop....I dont know what we were thinking back then. I ended up lowering the cae again to stock height......no wheel hop, better traction, but my tires would rub a bit.
air shocks with extensions. Load helpers on the rear shocks tightened up after you fully extended the shocks first! And the good old shackles. I can remember hanging out at warden and sheppard on a Friday and Sat night with little john.
Hey Brian, do you still remember those nights? What a blast we had. Remember the rolling drags on the 401 too? Speaking of spring shackles, back in 67 or 68 a guy had a 56 Ford wagon at Vic Park and Ellesmere with shackes on it. The rear springs were arched so far backward, we used to laugh our asses off cuz the thinfg still didn't lift the rear end. LOL

One of the funniest memories from that era, was my buddy who had a 55 chev with a modified 283 in it.(Cam , AFB, 4 speed , stuff like that but no headers, just cut-outs which were exhaust tubing with pipe caps sticking out just under the drivers front door post.
One night the cops started after him , he headed for home, and the road was a windey twisty road. He was quite a ways ahead of the cruiser, and flying through those sharp corners, which caused the car to lean quite a bit,, enough that the drivers side cut out cap was scrubbing on the pavement and unspun the pipe cap OFF! He hade it home and hid the car in the garage.
Next morning, he had to sneak into town quietly to work, then at noon we ran down to the plumbing store to buy another pipe cap. Lol--- aww,, the good ole days!!
