I'll be camping also. I used to vend at 1J1-1J3 in the brown field selling nothing but vintage car parts until Haneys flunkies gave me a hard time over a chiminea of all things. They said there was a complaint of excessive smoke from my chiminea and when a asked the security bitch if she could see any smoke she said well it must have been there. I pointed out that the brown field was a low fog of smoke from several OPEN fires but she was adamant that I was the culprit.Even the customers walking by told her to leave me alone but she was high on herself and her new found authority. When I told her to contact her higher ups to tell them I was not pleased with the treatment she did and they replied that they didn't care if I came back. Imagine that....

I don't need any "socks" or "jewelery" this yr.! I do need a few pcs. for the 52 but don't want to waste my time passing all the "CRAP" vendors!! Put them all in one corner & let us loose on the real vendors!!! Otherwise it's a waste of time & money to get there, Anyone know what he's charging this yr. to walk in?????

wish someone would start up a new swap meet north of toronto, alot of people are fed up with the barrie 'experience'

Most of us "just don't want to line Hainey's pockets" with the outrageous lot fees & high food prices!!!

I havent been in a few years,,,,,Too much walking for my old feet......First few years I went it was at the Molson Park in the 70s

Seems to me that the politics or personal issues with the owner of the Barrie Swap meet have caused a lot of the problems the last few years. Too bad, it used to be a good time

I don't vend there anymore, too costly for the return. Don't go in the fall as we go to the Lake george carshow. Looking for HenryJ parts and a lot of socializing.

I had 3 booths of nothing but vintage car parts for sale and different stuff every spring. When Haneys weekend warrior with attitude showed up it was the last straw for me.$600.00 in booth fees plus $50.00 for hydro that Haney doesn't get from me any more. The biggest loss is to those who bought from me every year and specifically looked for me to see what I had for sale! I too wish someone else would start a flea market closer to northern Ontario.

It is said that the price of a site is alot.... curious has anyone stayed in a motel reciently for 5 nights? would it cost more than $165 for 2 people? Or even a camp ground? last time I went it was $27 a night.
Not outrageous to be in the middle of it all making a few $$ while you sit arround with some buddies having a couple of cold ones...
Unless you figure you're going to make a fortune off of the reject parts from your project at home...If there isn't places like Barrie Fleamarket arround then nobody will get interested in the older cars .....and this forum will probably have a small # of guys talking about the same crappy cars they've alwayse talked about......

I'll be there on Friday.
I always take the day off and wander around looking at all those retired French Canadian Strippers!

ITS to long of a haul from here just to look at the same stuff year after year and Im not needing any thing worth driving that far for. I would still be vending if it wasn't for the Sunday rule. I almost killed myself a few years back leaving Sunday afternoon fell asleep on the way home after spending a week in the field and rushing home to be at work for 6am Monday morning. Not every one is retired and lives the life of Riley.I don't need to be threatened by my host not to come back if I leave for home a day early while on vacation. Barrie or anywhere else. And no I wont shut up and I wont go back to Barrie. If I lived within a couple hours I would go for sure but not from this far.

That about covers it!!!But it doesn't cover the remark about "talking about our same "CRAPPY" cars!!! I've never called another's persons car that, no matter what it is, or condition!! I may not have a interest in that particular car or truck, BUT I wouldn't "INSULT" him!!!!! I now have a differrent opinion of "some" RAT ROD owners!!!!!

when people talk about how the same crappy stuff year after year at the fleamarket...I just used the same words but flipped them so I could show how people can get offended by a simple comment...

There are two ways to look at Barrie .If you can go and think of it as a weekend party and not have to worry about making your expences then you will probably enjoy your weekend. If you need to sell enough to make expences and enough for gas home than Barrie is not the place to go .I vended there for 10 or 15 yrs and in the beginning we did well enough to return each year, then the attitude changed and expences went way up and the real selling days changed to only really Fri. and Sat. and Sunday became a day for couples strolling or a family outing but no buyers .We would have liked to go home early on Sunday but it was against the rules so we just quit going as it wasn't fun any more and not worth the costs involved. There are other 1 or 2 day events popping up an they seam to suit me fine as most of the people that attend are looking to buy and are not just out for a stroll. Now maybe this sounds mercinary but when I go to the trouble of loading up for a market and spending money for a spot and weekend expences,I expect to sell stuff and if it doesn't happen then I will probably give it a couple of tries then move on to another one.Sorry to say vending at a flea market is costly and time consuming and if no one is buying and you are not a partier ,then it is not a very fun weekend. There are lots of ways to have fun with the car hobby but unfortunately for me vending isn't one of them.So like the man said I stopped bitching and found something else to do unfortunatly it was drag racing boy talk about expensive,---bitch, whine, complane, yada yada and so on!!! Ed

The Barrie Automotive Swap Meet as it was once known as, just plain sucks now...i was a shopper and a vendor for years, when the majority of vendors were car guys..,,did rather well at it to..not once did another vendor selling parts try calling me over while walking by trying to get me to buy something...now you walk buy and some moon monkey is trying to sell you his socks or sun glasses,,i'll drive the extra hours to waterdown and ancaster where its a true automotive swap meet to avoid the crap at Barrie,,if i want socks and clothes, the malls are closer

Neighbours actually bought a goat at the Barrie "Automotive" Flea Market couple years ago. A goat ... and no, not a GTO type goat either.

Good thing is Barrie does have a beer tent.

I think I remember people trying to "protest" Haney's overpricing etc by setting up a rival flea market at the old horse race track right in Barrie quite a few years ago. They (if I remember correctly) had it on the same weekend as Haneys. Didn't survive.

I haven't been back to Haneys/Barrie since I drove up for the Summer Barrie Auto Flea Market (as advertised in Old Autos) only to find signs for a truck show (with no mention of a flea market). Asked the gate/ticket seller if there was a flea market on this weekend before I paid entry and was told "no". Turned around and headed for home without entering (4 hrs road time in a rather thirsty tubbed Nova ... 18 wheeler tractor shows aren't my thing), then finding out from someone at my work that there actually WAS a flea market there that weekend. Haney never replied to the message I left on his answering machine ... probably too busy looking up the definition of all the four letter words he had never heard before :)

If Barrie is enjoyable/profitable for you, by all means, go and enjoy ... me? ... I prefer to buy my socks and underwear from Goodwill, lot closer and no entry fee :)

I don't think we need to know where you get your under wear guys!! LOL

I haven't been to barrie in many moons.  What I see written here seems to confirm what I'm being told by the guys I used to go up there with.

Last time I went to the Barrie meet, it was $10 to get in or $20 to park in the infield. How much is it now?

I guess a swap meet like Barrie is what you make of it. I suppose some of the ladies like to wander around the clothes/socks/underwear booths while hubby looks for car parts......My wife thinks its a big bore, so she stays home.

Neighbouur went on Fri. only things he got, were the "pre-ordered" parts for his 57 Chevy S/D from a 55 to 57 supplier. He said the cars in Corral were "over priced" for the condition of vehicles [in his OP] & he missd out on a set of wheels by "himmin & hawin' on wether to buy them, went back & an another guy had just bought them!! Other than that he said there was nothing there that interested him, after tramping up & down the fields!!!!

Scored 2 dozen Titlest SF golf balls that say "MOPAR" on them, that should help me hit them twice as far! Found the lad from Mississauga that sells the lined full-leather winter gloves again this year, $20 a pair!
Oh, and I picked up a pair of Catalytic Converters for $40 each to make my truck emissions legal!

I bought a few things to resell on Ebay, a few things for my 57 and my buddy bought that black 26 Tall T hotrod. The seller said it had been originally built in 65 and by the look of it other than the rear diff he could be right. Had a great time partying with my pals, met a few old friends and saw some crazy ****. Haney better open his eyes......many vendors said they weren't going back.

barrie was great this spring, i bought some really cool stuff for cheap, i got a linde stich mig welder, a fmc tire balancer and a fmc tire machine.  i sold some stuff and made money and i bought a pile of alloy wheels for scrap.  overall it was a good weekend, hainey spouted off his usual hating and some racist comments as well.  the best part was i found a way out of the main compound and i was able to leave today avoiding the huge lineups of people leaving.  take that hainey!  we are going back in the fall for sure.

Hey hemi34,

If GM keeps closing plants down and opening more in China that may just become a reality.....but I think I'd even go Ford before the Mopar!

Does anyone know a vendor at Barrie who had tarpaulin remnants for sale? They were heavy vinyl, black on one side and white on the other. I think they were 12' X 50' for $50. He had a whole bunch of it. I meant to buy some when I was leaving but totally forgot.

Anyone?
