As far as I know, a lot depends on the cam, weight of the vehicle, tire size-rear gears and the intended use. My guess would be to contact the cam maufacturer and ask their opinion. Either that or ask the convertor company you intend to use for their suggestion. Me? I avoided that conversation entirely and installed a "stick" and third pedal :)

this depends on what you want the car to do, a torque converter is essentially a clutch that engages fully at a predetermined rpm.  a higher stall converter is what you want depending on what level of performance you want.  a stock converter will lock up at around 2500 rpm, that is the engine will be connected ont to one with transmission.  if you want performance, an increase in the torque converters stall will get you that.

Rusty Nuts nailed it.

Any good converter manufacturer can help you out.  A good converter is worth a ton of performance over a not so good one, but a good one can be expensive.

Speed costs money!

My son and I are doing similar, 86 Monte Carlo SS /88 -454+.030 w/ O E style dished pistons(a toonie sized) Comp Cams L s6 cam .520 lift approx.    350 turbo,3000 stall,3.73 gears. With the BB it will probably stall  a little higher, more torque than when behind the 350 +.060 that came out of the car.  Its a B&M brand and yes a good one ,costs.hmmsmile
