I was at a cruise night in Cambridge this past Wednesday, minding my own business, when a drop dead gorgeous custom slinked in and parked. My jaw dropped at the sight of this full blown custom. Of course I drooled all over it, soaking in all the details. What jumped out at me, besides the quality and proportions of this ride, was that it didn't fall into the current trends of today's "store-bought-billet-bling" bolt-on custom car.
I talked at length with the owner's son, Howie I think his name was. And his dad's name was Howard, from St George just outside of Brantford.
Apparently this car was built in California sometime in the early 90's. Without me getting the details all wrong, google "Brethless Buick" and check it out. Boy, it sure is nice to see something like this rolling the streets.
Is that ever a gorgeous ride! I would love to get in touch with the owner and snap a few shots of it. I'll have to do a bit more reading up on it. Thanks for posting that Chris, by the way, every time I see your avatar, I remember the '58 Bel Air I owned, it's still the favorite car I used to own.
I have seen it a few times too.. last time was at LA Franks cruise night, the same as you i believe Chris58. Somebody told me it belonged to one of the original Beatniks down in the States (California ?) Either way, beautiful car, and love the "Catch a Wave" center console !! At least thats what it reminds me of... lol
Hi guys, I just joined here , my names Howie and that's my dad's Buick. He's only had it a couple of months. The car was built in 94/95 by Rick Dore who was a founding member of the Beatniks The top was chopped by Dick Dean who also made the Carson top, it was painted by Bill Reasoner. It's got a 350 sbc with a th350. Front subframe from a 70's Nova, so it has modern suspension and disc brakes. It hit the show circuit in 95 where it won it's class at the Oakland Roadster Show and later that year it won Worlds Most Beautiful Custom at the Sacremento Autorama. After it finished the show circuit in California it changed hands a few times and my dad found it for sale near Flint Michigan . Dad and I usually build our own cars but once he saw it he had to have it. We usually go to the cruise nights in Cambridge and try to make most of the shows in the area. I usually have my T-bird and Dad also has a mild custom 62 Lincoln vert Hope to see some of you at the cruise nights or shows
Welcome to the site. Thanks for the direct info Howie. Glad to see such a slick custom rolling the streets around the area. Hope to see more of it as the season settles in.
Chris
