Province of Manitoba Proclaims July 13, 2012 as “COLLECTOR CAR APPRECIATION DAY”
Thanks to the efforts of the Manitoba Association of Auto Clubs, the Manitoba Minister of Culture, Heritage and Tourism issued a proclamation designating July 13, 2012 as “Collector Car Appreciation Day” in the province. The minister also proclaimed the month of July 2012 to be Collector Car Appreciation Month. Manitoba joins several states and cities in the U.S. that have already officially recognized the celebration. Earlier this year, the U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 452 at the SEMA Action Network’s (SAN) request to acknowledge the day’s significance in raising awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. The date marks the third commemoration in what has become an annual event.
In the previous two years, thousands of hobbyists in the U.S and Canada have gathered at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our nation’s automotive heritage. By taking part in these events around the country, these automotive enthusiasts and related businesses have ensured that their passion was honored and recognized.
There is still time to get involved. Individuals, car clubs and business owners have been registering their gatherings for inclusion on the SEMA Action Network (SAN) website. However you choose, please pay tribute to our hobby’s special day by holding or attending a celebration near you. Encourage others to follow suit. Let’s get those cars and trucks out of the garage and onto the road!
Ontario "collector car appreciation day" my a$$. They'd just use it as a ruse to get us all into one area, get the MOE to block off all the exits, then when it's time to leave they could nail each and every one of us on the way out.
The only appreciation would be from the treasury dept for all the revenue created by the paying of the fines.
Me too cautious and untrusting? Maybe just a little :)

Ha ha ha! No sh%&, but worth a try, no more than a few guys bring there rides, and we all split the bill.
All kidding aside, we need to get all together and fight (lack of better word) for our hobby/passion, if we want it to survive for future generations.
I'll be for sure looking into this further. I have many friends in this hobby and quite a few of them rely on it to have a roof over there heads and food on the table.
I've been cynical for a long time, I was against street rod plates when they were bringing out the historic vehicle plates for the same reason.Too easy to round everybody up when the time comes .Now thats cynical, somedays I scare myself. Ed
Can't say that I trust MOE & friends NOT to take advantage, however we should have been more prepared to show our elected representatives the scope of our hobby and introduce them to car owners, plus as many people as possible that earn a living from this hobby including the charities we support. Let them see first hand the volumes of Ontarians that make up the $900 million per year industry. Likely it is too late to boost July 13th for this year, but it is time to start inviting our Provincial and Federal elected representatives to our events to demonstrate the scope of this. My club has a season ending event that raises about $5000 and 2 truck loads of food for the local food bank each year. This year to be held Sunday September 30 in Cookstown. You are ALL invited to attend. NO Charge admission, but we would like a donation to the foodbank. I WILL be extending an invite to our MPP to attend. We NEED her to see the good side of the hobby and see what damaging/confusing legislation will do if not corrected. Have your club or group do the same "inviting the MPP" thing. They all like the Face Time, especially during the summer when the House is "on vacation".
Keep collecting signatures. Get them to all areas of Ontario. Petitions need to be turned in by August 31st. Let's plan ahead for 2013 Collector Car Appreciation Day. You're all welcome to Back Alley Cruisers Cruise Nights, held Friday nights, including Friday July 13th. (Friday the 13th, hmmm)

38 out of 50 states will be celebrating this "appreciation day" !! 1 province (manitoba) will be celebrating here in Canada !! I'm feeling less and less patriotic everyday I hate to say it, but I was born in the wrong Country..
Hey Kid, I'm with you on every point, I help organize a couple shows here locally in Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge. Moparfest being the largest one. And it would be extremely easy to get the local MPP to see how much income it brings in to the community as well as all the donations/funds raised for charity, forward the link to Moparfest. I'll bring up the "collecting signatures" with the "Old Chrysler Club" organizing comity as well as the New Hamburg Optimist club. That show alone should bring up thousands of signatures. Where/who do I send them to?
Any collected signatures can be dropped off at your local MPP's office to be forwarded to MPP John O'Toole, mailed to MPP John O'Toole's office (apparently with no postage necessary but check with your Post Office), (address on bottom of Performance Improvements.com) Open P.I. site, hit "petition" when petition page opens hit printer icon to properly size it for your printer. Print as many as necessary. MPP J. O'Toole's address at bottom of petition page.
Can be dropped off at any Performance Improvements store, see P.I. website.
Email any of your friends to see if they are aware of petition. If not invite them to this site, or to P.I. website to participate. Do Not confuse no Drive Clean testing in their part of Ontario with ALL of Ontario requirements to meet Environmental Protection Act standards. Ontario reg 361/98.

Hey Hemi, I would maybe say wrong Province? This is a great Country, we just need a great PM to run it, been missing one for years. McSquinty is an a@@! I was born in Toronto many moons ago and I am really saddened to see the direction our once great Province has gone.
