Grand Prix of Mosport ... rant :(

Just a quick little rant ... We are heading to the cottage this weekend so attending the big ALMS event at Mosport is out for me ... but wait !!  According to the Mosport website, there is no charge for spectator entry on Thursdaybiggrin.  Friday entry is $35, Saturday entry $40 and Sunday entry $50 with Thursday being blank on the Mosport website regarding cost to attend.  Perfect, I can find the time on Thursday (the wife will be at work).  I fire up the old car, top up the tank and head out.

Side note: Mosport has a policy (that is listed on their website) that one must purchase all one-day tickets with ANY unused tickets being refunded upon leaving at the end of the day, which makes sense being they don't want people entering on Thursday, Friday or Saturday on a one-day ticket and staying for the rest of the weekend.

I arrive at the Mosport gate and am told I must purchase all one-day tickets (I am OK with that) ... then I am told that I will NOT be refunded for Fridays ticket confuse regardless of the fact that A: today is Thursday, B: I will NOT be returning on Friday so it is and will be an unused ticket, C: THEIR OWN WEBSITE does NOT list a price for Thursday entry, and D: the ALMS cars (the BIG dogs of this event) won't even be on the track on Thursday.

So here I am, at the gate after spending my time and gas money to get there and then being told that regardless of what THEIR OWN WEBSITE says, it is going to cost me $35 to spectate on Thursday no...

What did I do?  I turned around and went home hmm.  No, $35 is not going to break me and I was right there at their gate but it is the pricipal of the thing.  If I had known that it was going to cost me $35 for entry on Thursday AND that I would not be seeing any of the ALMS cars on the track, I would have stayed home.

Guess I lied ... it wasn't a "quick little rant" after all  :)

Ah well, the cottage should be fun smile.

I'll just listen to the cars from my house all weekend. With the Boots and Hearts concert coming up I'm sure I'll be able to listen to it from home too. LOL I live about 5km from "Canadian Tire Motorsport Park" (Mosport).

I guess Mosport is turning into a "Mickey Mouse" operation since being taken over by Canadian Tire.
Would you expect any less? Canadian tire 30 years ago was an amazing store, today it is an absolute joke which has useless products and the staff (automotive) is even more of a joke!! How they stay in business is beyond me, because anyone I know that's into cars keeps away from there like the plague !!
Whew!! My rant was a bit shorter than Rusty's .

Gotta agree with you there, our CTC in Port Perry has gone downhill too> No staff, 1 person covering 3 depts. shelves empty of 'what you want" & staff totally incompetant!!  Then you get to the check out, at least 8 closed ones, customer returns is doing the check out [double duty} & you wait & wait as people keep bring the useless "crap" back, & the check out line gets longer!! I avoid it it now like the "plague"

No comment about CTC because I agree to an extent...but just so you understand Mosport was not taken over by Canadian Tire...they are just the main track sponsor (read advertiser) The track is now owned by a group of investers which includes Ron Fellows...they have undertaken an incredible amount of work with a great deal more planned...probably the most exciting thing to happen to the park since it was built in the 60's. I have no connection or stake in the place but it is a part of my community and I'm happy to see a group of people purchase it who want to make it something more than a run down outdated facility.

They said they were going to put in a drag strip 10 to 15 yrs. ago but nothing ever came out of it other than "promises" Ya it would be great to have a strip 15 min from home but think of all the others who have to drive over 2 hrs each way to get to a strip!!! Would also think it would give the "street racers" a place to "have at it" & get them off the city streets???

I used to race at Cayuga in the late 80's, and there was talk then of building a drag strip. It will never happen !! Unfortunately as the years go by, the popularity of drag racing is deminishing. It would have been cool to be a teenager in the 60's !!

Instead of enjoying Garlits, Muldowney, Prudhomme, McEwen and others back then, I was too busy filling my pants with Poo !

Update to my rant ... :)

It turns out the wife decided we should leave for the cottage on Saturday morning instead of Friday. As we are loading the car and hooking up the boat on Saturday morning, my next door neighbours wander over with four free "Mosport Weekend Super Tickets" for the ALMS event. I suggest to the wife that just maybe we should drop in to Mosport on our way to the cottage (we literally drive right past it on the way to the 115). The wife (knowing how much I enjoy Mosport ... I love the place) instantly agrees. What a fantastic several hours we had there ... to top it off, as soon as we climbed out of our car upon arrival, a Canadian Tire courtesy shuttle/golf cart pulled up and offered the four of us (me, wifey and the neighbours) a lift to anywhere we wanted to go ... we chose the pits to start our day.

Yes, the website not being accurate annoyed me but in the end I had a great time there and the upgrades the new owners are making to the place is very impressive ... I'll definitely be back although I will be phoning to verify their website info BEFORE heading there next time :)
