would the tail shaft in a pre 1986 700r4 with mechanical gears be the same as the later ones with the electronic speedo, thanks brent

Brent, are "talking" the housing,or the actual output shaft??? I would "think" the tail hsg. & shaft would be different!!! Shaft would have provision for gear drive & hsg. would have the hole for gear drive adapter, & newer one wouldn't have either??? Anyone else??? Maybe ask at a trans shop????

Well I waas told the housings are the same, except for corvettes because they don't a transmission mount and no holes to bolt the mount onto. Anyways like u said will have to talk to a tranny guy, thanks Pete glad ur on the mend

Output shafts are the same. The gear for speedo is held in place with the metal clip like the TH350 tranny. A press on reluctor for the electronic speedo also fits the same shaft.

A 4L60E shaft cannot be used as there are no govenor gears built in to the shaft. A 700r4 shaft may be used on a 4l60e however.
