Just wondering what you guys think about how long car shows last. Most seam to go from say 9till3 thats 6hrs.Now I get that promoters want the show to last for a long enough time to get lots of spectator money ,but how long do you stay.We have all seen most of the cars and usually talked with the owners last week or recetly at a cruse night. So the question is what makes you stay and how long do you stay.Personally I like to go to show that have other stuff going on ,like a fair or like the Pioneer village show .I usually get to a show by 10 and stay till 2or3 thats my limit .For shows in a field with nothing else going on maybe i stay for a couple of hours and then motor on .What do the rest of you think are they too long or is it just me .Just went to a small show and had to leave early to work on my sons car, felt bad but really 5 hrs with nothong to do is starting to get hard to take.Don't know about the rest of you what are your thoughts how do you get over that point you know around 1to130 when you realize there is still another 2or3 hrs to go.  Ed

I'm with you on that !! The best part of a show is getting there and coming home. I don't usually go to shows that are 10 minutes away, but prefer the ones that are a 2 hour drive. Actually, I hate car shows !! They're boring unless there's other stuff going on like a fair. Looking forward to to the fall though ! Usually go on a 400+ tour up through Algonquin park to see the colours. The only crappy part is the loads of Chinese up there going up in bus loads. Maybe I should fab up a front bumper for the car !!

I to enjoy the ride to and from, that's the best part, rods are made to run not sit! I also enjoy an afternoon with my wife, and fellow rodders, sitting around telling stories and ''shootin'' the bull. If you're at a show that means you're not ''bustin'' your hump doing house chores !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rat-on

I have say that I am finding cars shows less fun all the time. I do enjoy the drive, that's why I build my truck. To sit around for 7 hours or so and do nothing bores me to tears. Then again if I haven't got 50 things on the go at once I get bored. I do enjoy meeting fellow rodders and shooting the breeze but I find at most car shows I start to see the same cliques huddled together all day. Syracuse is great show, lots to do and see. Arm drop races, lots of fun there. Oshawa pay $40 to sit and do nothing, no big vender display etc that's why I didn't go this year.

I only go to shows where there are other things going on as walking around looking at the same ole gets old fast. 4 or 5 hours goes by pretty quick. I only sit at my car if I'm waiting for pain to subside,,,meds kicking in or just sitting back having a cold one

disclosure,,I do not or have ever owned any doo wop or in all likelyhood any music usually played at car shows and hoe downs

the swag

Car shows cruise nights all the same ,its boring in some respect but i go honestly for the socializing part. You get to know lots of guys through the shows and its nice to chat and catch up on stuff. I do like to meet some new folks and talk about there rides and hear the stories, its all good. I also do exit early from shows maybe 2 at the latest.
I agree with Pete also on the fact after you see some new stuff you want to leave. The other problem i keep hearing is the music end of things. Why do these guys (DJs) or whatever there called have the tunes cranked, its pissing all my buddys off. The selection is also annoying ,really who the hell wants to listen to 50/early 60s stuff all day long. This is a major beef also with many guys now and we leave. Lots of us grew up with 70s 80s stuff and i look around the age group and well things better change. Crappy sound systems dont help the cause. Thats my rant.

Someone should start a new cruise night that plays nothing but Rush, Zeppelin and Floyd.

I guess "who the hell wants to listen to 50/ early 60's stuff all day long" would be the guys that grew up in the 50's & 60's.  There is still some of us around.  Maybe we were the guys that really got this hobby started - "way back when."  We are willing to share the music from the 70's and 80's as we go forward with this hobby.  We need the "kids" to keep it going.

As for the volume and "crappy sound systems" we agree.

I guess i should of worded that differently, dont want to step on someone who likes the 50s/60s stuff but a real good mix would help the hobby. The guys who are 20yrs older than me have been there done that and i very much respect that
If your 50 you would have listened to anything but the early stuff so i guess in retrospect the DJs should mix it up.
Will you are correct we need to go forward and get the (kids) involved, im very proactive in doing so with my teenagers and there friends.
The shows need to have a change of format somehow.

While we're on the subject !! Another thing that enjoy is having a cold beer on a hot day . Why is it that I can walk around at the Syracuse Nationals with a beer in my hand, but here at large shows like Autofest, they have warnings over the PA warning you against it and tons of Cops walking around eager to bust someones ass?? I'm really getting tired of the crap that we have to go through just to call ourselves Canadians. Anyone have a "green card" for sale?

I stepped 6 feet off our campsite at Rockpoint Provincial park a few years back - with a beer in hand. The Carp-cop was an O.P.P. wanna-be too stupid to make the grade. It was 11:30 pm. pitch black and quiet as a church mouse but that didn't matter to him. I told him I coulda lied, said I just picked it up on the road, I coulda chucked it into the weeds but I was honest and what do ya get for that? - a $175.00 fine by a dick too dumb to know better name of Eric White. Went to court in Cayuga nd had it knocked back anyway. Sorry for the hijack but you just reminded me Hemi.

In responce to your "why can't i walk around with a beer"...back in about 95 i was at the Can Nats looking at a beautiful 34 ford coupe,,,,it had a paint job that looked 10 feet deep....while standing there an older guy,,,( i was younger back then) strolled over with his buddies,,,they each had a beer in hand,,,the old guy commented that if he had a nice paint job like that one he would at least keep it clean,he then set the beer on the fender and then proceeded to wipe the dust off the fender with his hand...now me being a car lover and one who respects other peoples property , i told him if that was my car and he was doing that i would smash that beer can down his throat and kick his ass....My point is all it takes is one to ruin something for everyone,,just like some of the "rat rods" you see....there are those that have the "know" and then there's the ones that don't

Well, there's a big difference between having a couple of beers and getting pissed drunk. The first time I brought my car out, a Chinese couple made their 3 year old kid stand on my f-king fender so they could take his picture. I'm not a racist person, but I sure hope the Chinese keep away from car shows!! They're not into old cars anyway !!

Traveller Coffee Mug works wonders for a disguise of a cold one!!!! Keep the lid on, & use the drinking hole!! Come on guys use your imagination!! I've got a "TIMMIES" Traveller that will hold 5 beers or a "POT" of coffee, either one sends your to the "Johnee on the JOB" in a short peroid of time & many trips after that too!!!!!

At my age, I shouldn't be hiding my beer like I was a 16 year old. My peeve is that the Government has too much say in what I do in my life.

I usually use a Tim Hortons coffee cup (x-tra large), but they get soggy after 3 beers.
