anyone knows if there s an aftermarket intake that fit on a 312 ........ford motor 1956 monarch........i want to be able to put a newer eldebrock carb instead of the small 4 barrel that is on.............?
or should i just pull the perfectly good running original and put in a 351 windsor that i already have is it an easy swap does it hock to the tranny that is in the car...................any suggestion................... i was already told to go the easy way and put in a chevy engine lollllllll
also ( wanted............ i lost the cover that fit on the steering pump if anyone has one for sale even the complete pump )
ps ...for the old timers was that tea kettle carb that is on really unreliable back than ...........?
I've seen most guys with the Y blocks using a carb adapter to use a Edlelbrock performer or the "likes" to get rid of the Tea Kettle carb. They were "NOT the BEST" & I remember having to put a sheet metal screw in the secondary linkage to get the back barell's to kick in mechanically!!! Neighbours 56 Monarch has a newer style 2bbl on it, no choke & fires up stone cold with 1 pump!!! But has "EXTREME" blow by out the road tube!! He's thinking about 302!!!! Don't think the old trans. will hook up to newer block??? Not sure on that

some great info .i have a couple 2 barrels from the 70 s .............i want to get away from having that big air breather with oil lolllllllll........i going to check where to get the adapter since i already have a brand new elderbrock .......in the box .......well the carb is suppose to go on the Nova, but i can get another new one later ..........ya i was at my friends place where my monarch is .we re going to work on getting everything ready for the mechanical after he is done with hunting season
Thats the "Tea Kettle" manifold Carl!! Very small carb. base!! They all came with that manifold w/4bbl.[55-57] Don't know if after market manifolds had the bigger base or maybe later Y blocks had bigger one but may not retro fit to early engines!! Ford knowledge is limited on my end!!!!

Ii also have a sweet three deuce intake sitting here on my bench for a 312, there are tons of aftermarket options available... Gladly come and get that 312 out of your way if it doesn't stay in the hole.

The tri-power is reliable if set up properly, use a progressive linkage. You basically only run on the center carb unless you get on the throttle hard.
Likely set up for Stromberg's [94's or 97's] Way "back when" I had a SBC with Tri-power, & manifold was set up for those, after trying them I re-drilled the mainfold for Rochester 2 bbl. & blocked off the idle circuits on end carbs, as those ones are hard too find, their diff.than the main carb. anyway it worked alot better than the ols Stromb.'s

Ya, it takes a small based carb. If you look carefully at the pic. you can see the adapt. under the carb.!!!! Think most of the early Y blk. intakes took the small carbs both 2bb. & 4 bbl. for some reason???

I don't remember saying that,ha,ha? I have a complete Edelbrock intake, Holley 94 carbs and linkage and Campbellford is 30ish miles from Belleville.
Not gonna lie to you,it would be expensive and more than likely finicky as hell... belongs to a friend who handed it over to me as an art piece, making
a stand for it right now along with the neat old chromed valve covers I bought from a member here last week. It's going to be a coffe table conversation
piece... Was destined to go on his kustom 59 Ranchero but he's since sold the car and didn't have the heart to cut a whopping big hole in the hood of the 55 TBird
that he brought with him from the 90210 part of California when he moved ..

Not exactly an answer to your question (you have a lot of good advice here already) but one thing to keep in mind is to make sure your fuel pressure is adjusted down to 4 or 5 PSI with the Edlebrock carb. They don't like anything much higher than that. I had it set at 4 psi on my old '60 ElCamino with a 355 and a Muncie 4 speed in it and it didn't seem to need more fuel until I hit well over 90MPH. 4.5 psi worked like a charm - anything over that would cause black smoke like crazy if I touched the gas pedal even very slightly at any speed.
