Wanted: Ford 460 Heads and everything else
Permalink

I am looking for cheap parts, if you have an old rv or engine thats been sitting outside, whatever the case.

I am looking for a set of heads as well as a C6 with torque converter. Any other big block ford stuff as well that you may have kicking around and can part with reasonably. (intake, distributor, almost everything)

I raced 460s for 30 years - I have forgotten more about them than most ever learn ;o)

I have a fully built C6 out of my pull truck - no convertor tho - but they can be had in any stall from Markam convertor for $300 cash
you would need to have the output changed to a car version but any tranny shop can do that dirt cheap

460 parts - only heads that are not "smog" choked are pre 70, and even they have numerous lumps and bumps that need removed before the head will breathe. I was putting 2.02 intake and 1.81 exhaust valves in these heads 30 years before the industry finally recognised that it could be done. The current Edelbrock head is a direct copy of my old cast iron 68 heads that I posted on the internet 18 years ago.  if you want to run unleaded fuels then you need 73 or later heads with the hardened seats. 73 and 74 being the best of the later year castings even though they used a very similar casting untill 79

Best buy on the planet right now is ProComp aluminum heads complete with big valves for $an average price of $900. You can barely have a set of old cast heads rebuilt for that much by the time you do valves guides seals and machining. See Ebay for these

Cams - you dont even need ot change it out to get performance - just replace any 71 or newer timing chain with a striaght up aftermarket double roller as all newer chains have 8 degrees retard built in to them. Best cam on the market for a 460 street engine is the 268H from Comp

you need at least a 900 cfm carb, and bigger is always better on a 460 for some reason.

Timing - although you can go all the way up to 50 degrees advanced - 38-42 on decent fuel works exceptionally well.

Kijiji and Ebay is your best friend - period. It doesnt matter what you want to buy - its 15-25 cents on the dollar delivered to your door, there if you are patient and know what you want.

Currently on Kijiji there are 70+ ads for everything you need from cheap performance dist to complete race engines, and 39 ads for 429/460 parts all of which are interchangable. At a quick glance most of it was in the 50 or so cents on the dollar asking prices.

I think adds. should have a "asking" price!! & also would be nice if members would fill out the bio & put a location so questions like this aren't needed!!  You know the price & approx. where, then you can decide if it's worth getting in touch????

It unfortunately isn't in this case.

Not looking to spend $1500 for smog heads and intake really. Looking for ones someone has replaced due to them being restrictive boat anchors. Any big block Ford tranny will do as it can always be changed later in life too.

I am looking for smog heads, both of my bottom ends are 73'. Just trying to get an engine together with stock parts for the time being with just a timing set, carb and exhaust. Aluminum top end could come later down the road.

As for C6 id imagine one sitting in the bushes is in my price range.

SKAR, it's going to cost the price of his trans. just to go thru it!!!! Unless you can do that yourself?? I wouldn't go to all the effort to put a used trans in w/out having it checked out!! Unless your a "Brute" for punishment & want to take it in & out a few times???A trans laying in the BUSH is there for a reason!!!!!!
