We had a lot of fun in the early 60's with this car on both sides of the border.  It did run real well as a six cylinder car.

Mr. Crude was always the nick name we had for this car, but we did not think that it looked good for our sponsor.  After me leaving the partnership to get married, Wes Rydell joined Ralph and Wayne and Mr. Crude became the name on the car.

I remember the store but I forget the names of the owwer.  I think our sponsorship was for the paint on the car plus the fiberglass parts  --  tilt front end, doors, rear fenders and trunk lid.

That car was always one of my favourites to watch and check out.

Was it Wayne Lang that had the Sunoco station in London? I stopped there once and he and Ralph were there having a discussion.

In the pic you posted, do you know who the Other Anglia belonged to?

Sorry for all the questions,,, that inline always impressed me.

My project during highschool which I sold right before getting a job that could of paid to finish it. Built from a bare shell with not a single bolt or part attached.

My first car on the road in highschool

After the BMW died many many times I bought a Golf

Short time winter beater

Did hogsback rd. with some Jeep owning friends (roads not as big of a deal as people say)

I bought my first automatic, couldnt go wrong for $300, supercharged and heated leather

I bought and started modifying my girls car at 19

I blew the second engine in the Miata with the usage of boost

Bought a truck, built another engine for the Miata. Sold the truck. Bought my current winter beater which gets treated horribly and abused daily.

Which brings me back to the new and improved Miata

There were at least 15-20 cars I missed that I drove briefly or bought and tore apart.

I don't remember Wayne with a Sunoco station, but he did work as a mechanic at a Petro Canada station out by the University of Western Ontario

Not sure who was in the other lane this day at Grand Bend.

The following picture was taken at The Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 1966.  My Plymouth with the push bar in behind the car.

Note:  -  The mag. wheels we have on the car were made in London by Wells Foundry.  Many of the London 60's race cars ran these wheels.  I would really like to find just one of these original London made wheels.  If any of the members happen to come across one, PLEASE get in touch with me.  These were very much part of the London area drag racing scene and they need to be remembered.

Indy 1966.jpg

The following article was written by Dave Mathers from St. Thomas and appeared in "Wheelspin News" which was THE paper for all the drag racing news during the 60's.  I was long gone from the car but remained friends and very interested in the success of "our" old car.  Wes Rydell was a great addition to the partnership.  It did make some history.

re: It did make some history":

That combination made a LOT of history, i remember when the head change happened , it was the talk of many drag racers!!

Sorry Will, i thought it was a Sunoco, but the old computor between my ears has many miles on it, and gets a sputtering fit at times.

Thanks much for posting the article and some history.

(Two separate articles i read on the engine, one said GM the other said it was a 300cu in Ford.)

Wife - yes

Charger - No. Had to sell that when wife found out about a loan I took out for another car, lol.

I WAS going to bring this over, but I couldn't finish it in time, and the logistics of bringing over a half done project was too much:

Yes, it would have been awesome. But I've already sold it all, in preperation for moving over.

I actually don't know where to start in Canada. I'll be like a kid in a candy store!

My bucket list includes: (many many more than this)

1967/68 lemans/GTO (yeah, like that's gonna happen, lol)
1st gen Buick Riviera (love the clam shell lights)
1957 Chevy Bel Air
1968 Torino Fastback (the one that looks like a giant Mustang at the back. Twin round front lights)

Getting into trucks too recently:

78 C-10 Stepside (the driver, ryan O'neil)
78 chevy 2500 4x4
in fact, most of the 70's to 80's chevy trucks, lol
Some of the earlier Ford trucks. Not keen on the newer soft styling
Starting to appreciate the much older rounded trucks, in hot rod form of course

OK, you asked for it! Starting off with 1968. Before that there were a bunch of '55 to '57 Fords and Chevys (one a '57 Belair ragtop that I sure wish I could get back!) a couple of TR3's (one with a 361 inch big block Chrysler, that thankfully never hit the streets, a couple of stockers ('40 Ford, a different deuce pickup, a '28 AR Pheaton, a '29 roadster and a steel deuce roadster that I can't find pictures of - some of these were never completed and went down the road before pictures were taken) Oh, and another '35 flatback that looked almost identical to this one.

Some cars and trucks I've had. Still have the wife, son, the Monte SS  and the BMW. The Scout would go through Anything,304/ stick /4.27 gears, if anyone remembers the late Fred White from Springwater Ontario area, the Scout chassis ended up under his 4X4 Gremlin, was AMC colors, sat up really high smile The '68 Malibu was orignially butternut yellow, I changed it to red, went to the Stratford area after I did a 4 speed swap. The black 2wdr'76 Jimmy was a 350 auto 4bbl ,4:11 export vehicle,no emission controls, would blow anything from a stop till about  85 mph.Lots of Fun to drive, just sucked the fuel, engine lasted 3 years in a derby car after 3 years of farmlife! '68 Caprice had hide-away headlights & 325 hp 396/Turbo 400,bench seat, the best 'winter car' ever! '73 Blazer was very cool with the top 'off' (Jaws) and cruising Turkey Point / LongPoint Ontario in the summer. The black '67 Nova SS is in St Thomas Ontario, now owned by Jack Tapsel(Trucking),the white one w/ the NHRA plate is a race car some where if still around,I last seen that one at the strip 30 years ago.If I only had pics of the '64 Impala SS 327/4 speed ,factory tach,Turquiose Blue w/white interior, buckets,it's somewhere in the K W area, sold it to a car guy I met up there cruising around who had a real sweet '69 Chevelle 4speed,red w/ white buckets when I worked @ G&A Masonary in Breslau back in 1976. The Laguna was one of 8 thousand some built in '75,bench seat, 400/350 turbo. White '85 GMC was a total rebuild over 10 years-from BC an ex diesel, had a 350/700r & 3.42 gears, now in the Mt Brydges,Strathroy area.  Merry Christmas everyone smile
