Hey everyone,

I have a '49 Dodge/Fargo Rat Rod pickup for sale... Has camaro front clip, SBC 350 (running), 350 Tranny, 10 bolt rear end. Still needs work to finish (brakes, glass, interior, gas tank mounted etc.) but you can finish it how you like. Yes she's rough but keep in mind this is a RAT ROD, its not perfect and not for restoration! Looking for $2500. Would prefer to sell before the snow flies! Also comes with ownership... Thanks for looking!

That's a pretty decent looking project start - price sounds fair, though the body is going to need some serious work if you wanted it to be pretty. I don't like buying primered anything as you don't know what's underneath. The good thing about this one is that all the dents aren't full of cheese. I like the stance of this truck. Racer ricks 413 would be a good fit for this truck.

Thats a pretty decent price on ur truck. Needs work, but you can see what it needs. I wouldn't consider selling my 1950 Stude pu,for less than 15 gees and its a ratrod also. Giturdun.

I wasn't coming down on him over the price at all and based my thoughts on what it could be parted out for.

What things are worth and what they sell for are 2 entirely different things. You might *want* 15k for your truck, but I'd bet you'd be hard pressed to get anywhere near that these days. I've seen plenty of reasonably priced 40's & 50's trucks listed at half of that, some of them listed for a long time. I can buy a nice driver for less than it will cost to finish my 3/4 complete project. Again, looking at other peoples asking prices, isnt what they are worth, or what they sell for.

look at this for instance;

http://guelph.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=394077511

price was reduced a month ago and its still listed. Its 16K and not a rat. (dont get me wrong, nothing against rats...comment refers to the value added due to good body & paint vs flat black or patina of a rat depending on car/truck)

As I've said in other threads "it's cheaper now to buy a turn key" I'll never get what I've got in the Torpedo Back & I did 90% of it myself!!! I feel real sorry for my friend who has his 41 Graham Hollywood "Rod" for sale, asking $95,500 & has over $ 140,000 in the build & can't get any interest in it!!! It was all "farmed out" in the build, all done professionally, turned out great but he won't drive it for fear of "paint chips" as he's had it back 2 or 3 times now for "blow in's" for chips, from the few times he has drove it!!!!! He asked me how I stop the chips in my two rides, & I said "LIVE with THEM" you can't have a "PERFECT" car & drive it too!!!

I love restored cars, and trailer queens... but     I like drivers best

I feel bad (a little) lol  for you Buddies 41 Graham Rod

Anyone who drops 140g in a car and expects to drive it is silly

He better load it up, and take it to a U.S. auction and take his lumps

would you buy it for 50g?

          didn't think so

          such a shame

GEARHEAD,I likewise, wasn't coming down on you . Thats only my opinion about the truck for sale. I thought I could comment on the decent price he is asking and comment on my truck 'VALUE TO ME 'at the same time.  I know I won't get 15 k for my truck, but its not for sale . I just wouldn't sell it for any less.

As you said, 'asking prices' isn't what they are worth. Fair enough, I think his truck is "worth" more than he is asking. No harm , no foul....Just my opinion.

No worries - written words can come off in several ways depending on the reader, though I can sometimes be more than opinionated. Your truck is pretty slick and I wasnt imlpying otherwise. As for values, I think this hobby has seen its heyday or peak. Prices are becoming more realistic which is good for the guys trying to get in, but not so good for guys trying to sell. The 3 million dollar 71 Hemicuda on Kijiji right now...wonder what it will really sell for? I gotta say, I'm real hesitant to dump a ton of cash into my ride knowing its not going to make it any more valuable.

No worries guys. That being said,BJ auctions really screwed the market up for any entry level Rodders wanting to get into the hobbie/sport inexpensively. I used to make a decent living back in the late 80's early ninety's,selling rustfree tin and vehicles out of Texas. I bought cheap and sold the same way. Now,when I went looking for rustfree tin, I about fell over hearing the prices. The guy tells me with the advent of the computer and BJ auction,Ebay, the price has risen out of proportion. I thought about getting back into the game of rustfree again, but after calling up my old connections, theres no room for me to make a living. Sorry to ramble,it just kinda makes me sad the way its all going now. I sunk a small fortune into my ratrod, and will never be able to recoup half of it now. Thinking what I'm writing now, I guess that is a good asking price on the fargo after all. Cheers guys.

Quesion for dualquadpete and I guess for anybody else.Where in the holy cr-p does someone get $140k in these days to put into a frig-en car.Wow ,I just can't feel sorry for someone with that kind of desposable income. They must have had some kind of smarts to first of all make that kind of cash,so I have to think they knew what they were doing regarding the car.All I can think of is an old saying dumb people don't get rich, but sometimes rich people can do dumb things. A (local to me) guy in his mid 70's had his Ford three window coupe sitting on his driveway (the house he grew up in) since he went to highschool (hidden under a tarp) ... several years ago he sent it off to be redone. I have seen pics (on the Lowdown website) and the car is gorgeous. I heard it made it out to Performance World (or whatever they call it now) the year it was finished. Rumour has it that he spent somewhere around $160,000 on it.

Does he drive it now that it's finished? Nah, why would he, he never drove it the last 50+ years so why start now. Sad really.

This particular '49 isn't meant to be pretty... she's a Rat Rod. If someone wanted to really make it nice I suppose you could (but why? It would cost way too much!) It's meant to be enjoyed basically as is... just fix up the mechanical things, glass, interior etc. and you got a cheap cool truck to cruise in!! Is anyone interested... again $2500 takes her home. Would be a great project for over the winter.

Thanks for the BUMP Carl!

Ed, it's called "Not Thinking before you jump in" He's had a few cars[drivers] prior to this one, but saw the Graham add, went to see it & just had to have it,not even thinking that the build would cost a fortune, as he doesn't know one end of a 1/2 9/16 wrench from the other or the costs involved.I think he had some money willed to him about 1/2 way thru the project. When he realized that the car was not a driver [stone chips] & he only will have a PERFECT car!!! put it up for sale. Then he jumps into going drag racing, & contracts a co. in Ohio to build a 41 Willy's coupe for the East Coast gassers assoc. Graham didn't sell & now he's into BIG BUCKS again with the Gasser. Just doesn't think before doing something, I asked him how he was going to get the drag car around, he had a smart car at the time. "Face drop", oh, never thought about that, now I have to get a truck & trailer!!! He now has asked shop in Ohio to try & sell the Willy's!! It's made one pass down the strip after being built, 725HP Hemi Hate to think what he put into that!! He's just a ordinary guy that's got some money [or did have] but jumps in head first all the time
