The elimination of the Drive Clean program is a good idea for so many reasons, and the Liberals have been pushing that agenda for a long time. However, before everyone gets too excited you should consider that it doesn’t really solve the issue of MOE road-side enforcement for missing emission equipment on older vehicles. Remember, the Drive Clean program is NOT the issue that caused all the fuss with specialty vehicle owners, and since most of your older cars aren’t even in the Drive Clean program, it hasn’t been a factor with most, if not all, the complaints we’ve heard. I know that MOE made a lot of noise about forcing a vehicle into a Drive Clean facility for a tail-pipe test after being inspected at the road side, but the MOE people at the SVAO meeting said they have never done this, and we’ve never heard of anyone ever having to do this. (Which makes sense when you consider the logistics involved for the MOE officers and staff.) So, the loss of Drive Clean really isn’t a big deal to rodders, and I doubt that MOE’s road-side enforcement program is going to be cancelled any time soon since it has NOTHING to do with Drive Clean. I would be very surprised if the equipment requirements in Regulation 361 will be amended or that MOE will reduce its road-side enforcement efforts. So everyone must still be vigilant come cruising season – Drive Clean or no Drive Clean. (Good news just the same!)

Good to see the Auditor General's report today on what a waste of time the Drive Clean program has been since 1999 when it came into being. And this is supposed to be a revenue neutral progam remember....so if it continues, by 2018 they will be raking in $80 million a year.
Good thought there Novaclone but the election will be too far down the road for people to remember the screwing were taking NOW!! The Gov. is setting up the new system, & you think they'll cancel that after the garages have spent $$ to convert to 'new" system!!! That will be suicide for any Gov.trying to come in to power??? The Libs. or Fibs. will have this roll off their backs "again" same as "Teflon" Don" [ Mc Ginty] has done for the last 9 yrs. or so. Just look how the teachers have diverted the "flak" away from them when they created all this "$HIT"+ the hydro scandel, Orng. e health etc. is all going to the back seat.Houdork didn't help by voting with Mc Goofy on the teachers bill [& I'm not a teacher] so he's in the same sack of $hit as the rest of them.

Let's keep this topic seperate from the old car/MOE issue, drive clean has nothing to do with the old cars, that has been hashed over and over in the other thread(s). This is about our daily drivers and a few specialty cars. I don't believe in the DC system, never have never will, but for now we are stuck with it. In saying that, i think it would be a great idea if we take what the Auditor General found and start contacting local elected officials on this and get Gov't moving to get rid of Drive Clean once and for all. This is supposed to be a democratic society, not a dictated society by Gov't, so let's exercise our rights. Keep this topic 'hot' and hopefully we can make a difference!

The greens have been brain washing our younger generation for over 25 years it will get worse. The general public believes alot that it sees and can be easily manipulated by propaganda. Hitler did it in less than a generation Quebec has been doing it to its school children for 30 years. Its a political war and we are the incorrect.

In that case, it's time the Government gets over thrown !! It has gotten too fat, and too complacent. Unfortunatelly, we are not like our neighbours to the South. We are too lazy to do anything about it, and we are not armed. Remember, the right to bear arms in the US was in case the Government got out of hand ( which it has). IMO, big change is just around the corner in the form of another major war anyways, so maybe that change will just happen on it's own.
I heard this morning that B.C. is getting rid of their Drive Clean program in '14 i believe it is, hopefully ours will go too, very soon. I agree with hemi43, it's time the gov't got ousted/ put in it's place, they are supposed to work for us not against us, atleast thats what i was taught anyways. It's time that Canadian's started to fight back and stop laying down and letting the gov't's run us over. I don't know about you guys, but i like freedom, i really don't like having things dictated to me, people need to wake up and realize that they are running us more and more all the time. Rant over, for now.

It is apparent to me that the members who are responding to this entry are responsible voters. The issue with Drive Clean and a lot of the other "GREEN" initiatives is that they are born of either bad science or no science but the GREEN meanies have the "ear" of the current bureaucrats and changing the government will not necessarily change the bureaucrats and therefore nothing will happen. Should we change the government, probably, but changing it for change sake is not the answer. What we really need to do is change the bureaucrats which takes at least 2 generations. Drive Clean is just another tax, look at the Ottawa area, for example. Ottawa requires DC and Arnprior, 42 KMs away does not. Why? Arnprior is a "northern" community.
Is the young "Finger Master"/"Fuddel Duddeller"the one to bring the people together? Thoughts? Do we need a 'Non Educated' candidate?
Maybe? What we really need is a different system, because the current one does not work !! It doesn't matter if Liberals, PC or NDP steers the ship, they will all smash it into the rocks. We need leadership that takes that ship into smooth waters. For Christ sake with the amount of tax we Canadians pay, we should have a lot more to show for it..
