Hello All: I am the Project Manager of the new strip in North Bay (Bonfield) and I appreciate the inquiries and emails of support we have received. We have been quietly working away at this facility for the past several years and plan on having our first 'big' race on May 17th, 2013. Five major racing weekends are planned for 2013 and the facility will be open every other weekend for theme races, bracket series, and good ol' Test & Tune. The schedule for next year is in the final draft and we will be updating the website will all information, prices, track policies etc. very shortly. Sorry our website is outdated, it was designed very cumbersome and difficult to update.
FYI: the track is 1/8th mile, 1/4 mile uphill shutdown, 300' sandtrap, 400' X 15' concrete launch pads, 50' wide, 10' wide paved return lane, back-in or drive-through water boxes, 80' burn-out, 4-lane staging area, positive Jersey block walls on both sides, TSI Racenet timing system, realtime info on 1320go.com, on-site racers camping with seasonal secure rentals, public camping, Phase 1 has 1500 seats, licensed restaurant, VIP suites, retail plaza.
I will keep everyone informed as information is released.
Their site, www.kingofthenorthdragway.com , said they where going to be open spring of 2012, and I can't find any updates. It doesn't look like the site is being maintained.

lets hope it does open & does well. Neighbours still complaining about the noise from Toronto Motor Sports park [AKA Mossport]even though it's been there longer than the houses!!! Wonder if they will make the NASCAR truck Series put mufflers on them like they made the Stock Cars do at the oval track there????when they come in Sept.

This is a refreshing thread to read instead of the usual track closings across North America .In this day its nice to see the time effort and investment take place. My local track (Sparta) has new management take over and the investment is nice to see. Its been stagnent for a long time but now a new energy is present. We have to support the local strips and i hope you have a great opening year Allan.

Looks like drag racing has taken off again. The last armdrop in Picton really showed that .When we first started running there you could run and line up again and run again 5 minutes later. The last time there wre so many guys running it took 30 minutes to get back thru the staging lanes. It was great to see such a turnout. The promoters of the new strip will hopefully be rewarded with great turnouts, its a good idea to have on site camping .I hope we can make a weekend of it if they have some kind of run what you brung event. Ed
More congratulations Allen. I grew up in the 'Bay and I know there have been plans for a strip for many years, and it's really great to hear it's actually going to happen. I'll have to plan a trip up north to catch the action - thanks for the update.

Great to hear, would be nice to get one going closer to Toronto!! Doubt that will happen but the authuroities are always saying "take it to the Track' But in this case it's 2 1/2 hrs[I think] to the closest one?? there was 'talk" yrs. ago of putting one in a Mossport when they built the "Roundy Round" track for the sat. night stock cars races, But that seemed all it was "TALK"

Thanks for the update Allen. I'm glad to see a track opening instead of closing. I use to race at Golden Horseshoe (whoops I'm showing my age), Cayuga and Grand Bend, when I lived farther south. It will be nice to come to a track just one hour and a bit away. I know there are lots of guys with modified cars in your area waiting for the opening day. I wish you many successes with the new venture!

What is really annoying is making a good run down the track, and having to swerve to steer around a moose or bear that runs in front of you. Kinda changes your ET drastically.

anybody planning on racing up there better have their A game. this will be fast chevy's home track and it being an 1/8th mile will hamper some people. if he gets it geared right for the 1/8th he will be a definite force to be reckoned with. his hole shot at picton caught me with my "decker" in my hand. lol
good luck up there guys. the world can always use another race track.
I was back there again on Saturday, and the place was a beehive of activity, work is progressing, there were crews doing just about everything, crews hauling, guys hammering, guys painting, guys digging, guys raking and levelling, guys installing pipe, poor Allen had his hands full trying to talk to people dropping in, and still cooridinate all the goings on. Great to see so much work being done, by a big crew.
The new drag strip is OPENING this Saturday June the 8th at 9:00 Am. Friday will be "Test and Tune" along with the general organization of the first day being open. The owners and crew have been running their butts off to make this a reality, things are really looking great. Great participation is expected in this northern ontario venture, as the previous runs at the local airport brought up to 300 cars and 7000 spectators.
