I'd leave it open to show the detail of work. A lid can be applied anytime with minimal effort. No different from driving around without a hood,,,you are not putting a hood on the car??

Probably will never see rain.... Is it not the same as an open engine?

Holes in quarters for axle anyway.....

Thats why they invented pressure washers.....lol

The air bags, shocks and compressors have not been installed yet.

The suspention will be a 2 bag horizontal cantilever set up.

Very inventive, and i kinda like it, certainly different.

Just not sure how practical that is though.

Of the 2, I prefer the solid cover. I think the Spider Web has run it's course....even I could do that!?!
Try something new and innovative!
Lightening bolts,
Butter flies (my daughters suggestions),
Hammers,
Nuts and Bolts,
Those curvy ladies on the truckers mud flaps,
A bunch of fists giving the finger,????

I would say closed. You would probably get a bit of a wind tunnel through the open lid.

Love the build but I think closed is the way to go. OCC kinda came up with and slayed the whole spider web design. Became wayy to popular and its kinda lost its orriginality but nice build so far

on or off ? well since i m french my ideas are sure different
if you leave it on you can always add air brush spyder paint cause it look ugly on with nothing on the lid
if you leave it off it hard to tell what your final idea will be everything one color or lot of chrome or ?
so for me ( on it covers way to much and off it show too much ).........so i m in the middle
but me i would go with a short mini truck bed just to be different lolllllllll

but me i never build anything so ....so anything you do is way better than what i could do

Air tank is the frame of the car

Gas tank is behind the seats

Battery is under the dash

Definatly closed, but working unless you really love it. The spider ,tools ,skull thing is over, unless you are building an art car which is a whole different story. If you are going for a so called traditional look, that wouldn't be it I have never seen an old rod with spiders all over it ,even the 60s show rods didn't have tools welded to them.If this is your idea of what you want then I say have at it its your car and what others think doesn't matter a hoot, but you did ask. I was going to say add color match plexi to match your paint, like pint and pound suggested.

But I would put plex under your web. let the web pop. and then people would need to strain to look thru the plexi at the suspention which will be cool also.

I figure it's going to look pretty awesome  in there when you finish. You already have some amazing hardware in there. Showing it is a great idea since its a viwpoint people don't normally see. A Maltese cross would be another design option to appease the spider haters biggrin

It will go way faster with the open concept lid (less drag/ weight). But then again, you may loose the required down force on the rear axle for those high speed runs! lol

Would b cool to see the craftsmanship while in transit.

"Plexiglass is interesting but would be very hard to get a compound curve need to follow the trunk lines

( trunk bows left to right and top to bottom)"

Glenn, Take your existing lid and appropriate size plexi to the pizza shop and when they go home at 3 am get the lid with the plexi on top into that nice hot oven and watch it conform to the steel lid. I can just see you standing on the urinal at local pizza palace with the trunk lid and plexi glass in tow!! lol

The deal is this......

Im building the car for Kevin..... and trying to convince him that an open trunk is the way to go.

With everything that is going on in the trunk....its very cool with the cantilever air ride and would be a shame to hide it.

The spider web thing was something I whipped up in a couple of hours....no big deal....It could be anything....but made of rod.

The thought was to keep the lines of the trunk without closing it in to showcase the inner workings.....It would be ashame to cover it up

Plexiglass is interesting but would be very hard to get a compound curve need to follow the trunk lines

( trunk bows left to right and top to bottom)

He wants the trunk lid.....BOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRIIIIIINNNNNGGGGG !

The whole car has been cut, chopped, changed, fabricated....or just plain futzed with....to me....it would be a shame not to do something special in

the back to make the whole car.......POP

Make it different!   spiders and Maltese Cross are..........

         as different as a motorcyclist,

who buys a Black Harley, black boots, black Helmet, black gloves, black shirt, black vest, grows a flowing beard or pony tail

BECAUSE he wants to be different...  ya right!!  lol

What about a closed trunk with the graphics painted/air brushed on?

wowsers! you got some serious talent going on there. couldn't imagine what it would look like if i tried. definitely nowhere that nice.
how about closed with the web layed on it. contrast the paint from mild to extreme, your choice. i am thinking of the road noise and rear end noise when i say closed. closed also is more traditional with the web on it shows your wild side.

.02 cents

very nice work bud.

What about just looking about in an recycler yard I would bet you may just find some vechicle that a nice small rear window, from some sort of vechicle that just might work..or some neat older vechicle or a VW  rear window..just start looking at some older stuff goodness knows how many vechicles  I have chopped over the years with cool neat old rear windows..just a thought..

Set the plexi on your full decklid set the heat lamp over it and let the plexi relax to shape. I have two 4 tube heat lamps to cure paint and set powdercoat.

I can get it up over 450 decrees.

A friend years ago bent plexi for his sons gullwing "A" to put windows in the roof. I dont have photo of it then,

But this is now, he filled it in again.
