...I was to put a Jap engine in an American Rod/Muscle car/Truck?

I'm still gutted I never got to finish my Miata/LS400 project, but I kept the hard to get parts. Like the bellhousing/manual conversion kit and clutch.

I love the 1UZFE engine as it's all aluminium, very reliable and highly tunable.

But how much of a kicking will I get if I put it into something American? lol.

Yes, I like to be different. confuse

Pretty cool motor but personally I'd probably go with an LSX swap if I was to go for newer technology in an american car. But at least it would be different and to each their own. Would the 1UZFE motor cost more than an lsx build?

I can pick up the whole car (LS400) for under a grand on Kijiji. Plenty about. There's a Jap parts importer in Mississauga who have an engine and loom with ECU, and tranny for 800.

As I say, I have a manual gearbox to fit it (They were only made with auto)

here's another clip. Sounds like a traditional V8 to me..

Ultimately you can do what you want. A classic muscle car with a Jap engine might earn you negative points. But hot rod, rat rod, custom, all fair game.

When you get over here I will introduce you to the LS2. You will hear angels sing.

It would cool to me. I have a 22RTE in my 47 Mercury pickup. You can make insane amounts of horsepower with a 1JZ with stock bottom end. I think about 1200 HP before you have to touch the bottom end. I was going to put one into my truck but it wouldn't fit with out redoing my truck completely.
I have had a few negative comments of my engine choice, but not near as many as I expected.

i almost bought my buddies toyota celsior which is the jap version of the ls 400, i was going to put the engine in an old school mazda b2000 and boost it to awesome, those engines are all forged internals and can take 40 pounds of boost if done right.  being a v8 i think counts for something and wouldnt be overly offensive in my opinion going into a domestic car.

Not nearly enough.

I got a 4 banger that makes more power than that V8.

I doubt most people will notice, but JDM v-8's aren't really the cream of the crop are they? Dual overhead cams, fuel injection and all that and it got to around 260 horse till they threw variable valve timing at it. (Then it was upped to 290 horse)

Still, it's your car, and you'd be sure to have the only one at whichever meet you show up to.

What's it going into?

It's a nice looking engine, it's a V8, it's aluminum, not too expensive and it makes decent power.
I think it would be pretty cool in the right car.

I think the name of the game in rodding is being original and unique. It gets kinda boring (no pun intended) when you see the same ol mills all the time. It's a V8, it looks great, why not?

I love how responsive this forum is!

Ok, the main reason I want to do this, is I spent two years gathering the parts to make a V8 Miata, and then the whole immigration to Canada thing came along and put a hold on my project.

So I could start again with a Miata in Canada, but one of the reasons I want to live in Canada is to get into North American cars!!, lol

I suppose I could have two projects. One all American, one Jap. It's all cars, so I'm happy with anything I do.

I could maybe stick the Jap V8 into a Toyota jeep for some off road fun.

Dave, There is a huge following of off-roading in Ontario as well. OF4WD membership gives you "off road" liability insurance and a lot of events to attend as well as many other benifits. Another great group of people.

Thanks slammed.

That's quite handy since the wife now wants a Wrangler, lol. (I'll get it when she gets bored with it) and then I can turn it into an off road monster :)
