These are pics of two different Edelbrock intakes for small block Chevs.  The white arrow is pointing to the heater outlet port.  On the first intake pic there are two water jacket ports, one on each side of the intake (not including the thermostat port).  The second port is for a temp sender unit, emission control temp sensors or possibly an electric fan trigger temp switch.  The second picture is also of an Edelbrock intake and it has a total of three ports, two on the passenger side of the intake and one on the drivers side ... the arrow points to the heater hose port, the others are for the things I listed above.  The reason for the extra port on the lower intake pic is because that intake has an EGR provision so Edelbrock added an extra port for emission equipment temp senders knowing that this intake would be going on an engine equipped with an EGR.  I do not think your friends intake is missing this port, I think it just must be plugged and you guys missed it being that you didn't know what you were looking for.  As far as I know, virtually every SBC single-four intake has these ports ... I may be wrong but I do not believe I have ever seen an Edelbrock intake without these ports ... if I am correct, there should be no reason for you to modify your intake to accept a heater.  As has been mentioned, the second hose runs off the waterpump itself.

These are both Edelbrock intakes ... I have ground off the Edelbrock name because I had a LOT of issues with two Edelbrock cams several years ago and therefore I do not feel the need to advertise their product for them.

Hemi is right ... Mopars don't need heaters 'cause you can't gettem to stay running or even start in cold weather  biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Mopar stands for "My Old Pig Ain't Running" for a reason ... they earned it.

(just kidding ... my dream car is a 71 Cuda rag ... with a 383 in it.  I should clarify, I mean the SBC stroker 383 wink)

OK folks, my first actuall post asking a forum relevant question, lol, be gentle!

My friend in Edinburgh has just imported this:

223581_391898077572048_152942470_n.jpg

It has a 65 Corvette engine with Edelbrock intake. Aparently this means it has no heater as the heat is normally taken from the intake manifold.

Is this correct?

If so, how does he heat it.

If false, ummm, how does he heat it? lol

I look forward to your answers/ridicule etc.

Dave.

Ok, so are you saying the car still has a heater matrix, and not that daft heater exchange stuff you get in Porsche's?

So, when you change to an Edlebrock intake, you need to take the hot water from somewhere else? is that it?

the upper pic is vintage eldebrock, middle is stock, and lower pick is newer edelbrock, all the same truck. one hose off the water pump, one off the intake into the water passage is for the heater box. further note the hoses are 2 different sizes.

Ok, that's brilliant thanks.

Just need to figure out why it was never modified. Although the car did come from Miami, so maybe they didn't need heat?

the heater line can also come off the water pump and return to a fitting on the radiator as well

 hahaha.

But seriously, thanks everyone. I have not seen the car yet, it only just arrived in Edinburgh. And all my tools are in the middle of the Atantic at the moment, so I can't assist him, but at least now I can point him in the right direction.

Just did it last year on a 1987 Monte SS manifold (aluminum) ... drilled the plug out as much as I could then ground away the remainder of the plug except for the threads with a diegrinder.  Worked great, was able to unwind the steel threads from the aluminum and didn't damage the aluminum threads at all.  Takes time but I was able to save the intake from any damage.

Isn't there a device you can put in to the rad hose to run hot water?
You have to cut a hole and put this thing in from the inside, then a nut or sumthing holds it on.

You're thinking of a 120v inline heater only used to pre-heat the engine.
