I couldn't watch more than a few minutes of that while eating my lunch - I sure hope that trend stays overseas! It actually makes the early 80's street machine trend that happened here look good.
Hell, they even make those half-kit cars and ozark/redneck hot rods look good.

I'm amazed that they can do that in Japan. We complain the emission laws are tough here, but in Japan, I heard that any engine with over 80000 km must be replaced with a new one.
ha ha I axeually just watched the first vid now , I laffed thru most of it . Best part there all hitting the pipes , then one rolls thru all quiet with stock exhaust on it ha ha ..77.

This is what I've heard. My brother has a Mazda And it was cheaper to buy a used 80k replacement engine from an importer than it was to do cylinder head.

I have a Buddy that builds street legal dune buggys, and he picks up these engines in Toronto somewhere for dirt cheap. What happens is all the engines are put into a container and sent over here. In that container, there's engines that are not used in North America and that's what he uses. Specifically, he picks up the twin turbo Subaru engines(flat 4 cylinder) because they are not used here and the seller (I think it's Japan Auto Parts) just wants to get rid of them. I made a few adaptor plates for these to bolt up to Audi 5000 transmissions. When done, it's a nice small rear engined package that puts out well over 300 HP. Perfect for a buggy !!
The first vid is about an automotive 'lifestyle' called Bosozuko. The underlying philiosophy is to 'offend' traditional japanese values about being quiet and respectful. The cars are completely over the top, and they're not taken very seriously, even by the builders.
You can also pick up some low mileage Japanese cars too (if you are into that sort of thing) I've seen some cool rhd old Toyota diesel landcruisers around.
