Tiny alternator?

Anyone know of a very small alternator that could be used on a HotRod and tucked in tight where it's not too visable? I'd prefer one with a built in regulator and maybe a one wire deal. My buddy has one on his Willys that he got from a circle track guy but nobody knows what it was made for. Some small off shore car I think. A typical Chevy alternator is too big for my application. My car has no power accessories; I just need it to charge the battery so something like 35 amps or even less woulkd be fine.   Thanx!

Yeh, Thanx, that is a good idea I just wonder about it charging the battery enough. I was at Vern Tardell's Flathead ranch in California a few years ago and noticed he does a lot of those.

Low mount one. The GM  CS130 is about the smallest you'll find without spending a fortune.

105amp.

I am going with a Toyota for my 409 project. I just had no room with my present set up. All the GM units would not hug the block like the Toyota one would.

Kubota small diesel tractors have a unit (35-40 Amp) that may fit your needs.

you know when a gator bites you, it does it in a sawing motion.  i am using a kia alternator, i will get a pic tommorow, the best part is the alternator bolted to the stock bracket on the straight 8 and the pulley i installed lined up perfect.  a question i have though is, how water proof or resistant is an average alternator?  i asked my alternator guy and even he couldnt really answer me.  my thing is this, running no hood or side covers, what if theres rain and stuff getting all over the alternator?  will it take some moisture or short out?

Bearings in the Alt. are sealed and the wiring is at no more risk then any other wires.

fatstax,
In 2010 I drove my 29 Ford to the west coast and back. Leaving Drumheller headed for Calgary, we actually drove through the only tornado to pass throgh that area in 17 years. Wet ....can you say wet!!!! Sideways rain by the barrel full and the alternator never hicupped. It's still on the car and still working great.

Mike the Kaboto small tractor alternator is a good choice.  I run the usual s10 GM tucked into the pass. side head on the 29. I think you built your frame to tuck under the cowl didn't you?  So you would have less width to start with right?

Yeh, the frame runs inside the cowl and also inside the deuce grille shell. Not even room for a mechanical fuel pump. Someone on one of the sites mentioned the idea of running it off the rearend yoke, but I have very little room under there either. I'll look at the Kaboto unit and some of the others suggested. As you know, I've had a bunch of hot rods with no hood and never had trouble with an alternator. Fuel pumps seems to be the favourite problem with my rides. Changing the electric pump on my Deuce pickup in the rainy motel parking lot at Indy comes to mind.

Toyota or Mazda have small high-output alternators.

Like keeper said Denso they are the smalest with the best punch. Mercury marine uses them as well. A good alternator shop should be able to fix you up. Just dont cheap out Denso is good quality. You dont need to be sining in the rain...lol

Denso is the kubota alt Sloo was talking about. I have one on the shelf, can't remember if it has a pulley or not. I'll try and remember to get some measurements off it.
Carrier uses them on their frame mounted apu units, they see the nastiest of conditions and rarely fail.
