I heard that too, down this way, Brian!! Guess Hainey has to make up the $$ he's losing on Vendor's "Bailing out" left, right & centre?? Now he'll be losing his customers as well!!!! He can always get more Sock & tee shirt, & jewlery vendors but theres only so many people to buy that "crap" Gets expensive paying parking + entrance fee then high priced food& beer tent etc.then find NO CAR PARTS!!!!!

I still enough sox to last me till 2015...biggrin  Got filled up last time I went to Barrie in 07.. that's all I could find ..same old car parts guys have lugging there for the last 15 years.. It has for sure lost it's flavor and has turned into just a week-end away for some, a drunk for a bunch down at the back and a good market for sox and yard sales with the odd rare and seldom found treausure..I much more like the smaller ones where the car guys go like Ancaster, and ....London , Paris, the divided one from lindsay or...I like the smaller ones cause they don't wear me out so bad ..and the parking is free with admission..and I like to support little guys ..

Where have you been hiding, the war between the Stirling followers & the Lindsay group have been on here for awhile. Lindsay is the same wknd. as the Stirling swap meet!!!  A few more guys from my area have said "that's it for barrie' for them, not paying to park + admission costs!! + some that vendored won't be going back either. But then there are the guys that think it's "JUST GREAT" & this won't hurt it a bit & may make it better as there won't be as many vendors & they will sell more stuff????

RIGHT ON!!! I should have waited, got mine last week at WallyMart & was $9.50 As for the "hate" on Barrie & Hainey, That "used' to be the best swap meet" but Hainey has ruined it by allowing more & more "NON AUTOMOTIVE" vendors in, & keeps uping the costs of vendor spots to where you have to sell a ton of "stuff" just to break even on cost of spot & expenses to get there, & now parking fees for the customers is the Straw the "you know the rest" I won't go back knowing that the vendor's are "bailing" right left & centre. Now you'll have to walk by all the "crap" dealers & the empty spots to try & find someone selling parts & not the pieces that get dragged back & forth for the last 10yrs that are so bad no one wants them!!!

Not saying it`s good or bad but I like to take the day off from my job at the salt mine to just wander about looking for treasures. I gave up trying to find stuff for my truck that`s reasonably priced...it does let me laugh at the prices these guys are asking! One guy has a really nice Peterborough Canoe Company paddle, which I collect, for the last few years. We both get a laugh when I ask if its gone down in price yet!
Other than that, it's crap!
Except for Fatstax's stuff, I hear he's got the best selection of antiques, treasures and rare automotive parts, I just haven't found him yet....

Does anyone know if the Show Car Area has gone up as well?
I was hoping Mr.Hainey was charging the parking lot guys $5 so I could get in free!

The last time I was there, the only car parts there were greasy parts from the last ten times there..

I can buy every piece I need from the Internet and have it delivered to Port Huron.Sarnis for free

I wouldn't go if the sock guys were gone and parking was free.......

I even went to Ancaster last year   same thing   socks, toys, and wore out greasy junk car parts     waste of time

I havn't read all of this thread, but what I understand about the paperwork I recieved...That due to the expence of drainage work and the expence of the park investing in their own portable toilets....of course there has to be a mark up somewhere. a personal "outhouse" on your lot runs $155 on top of your lot at $160

$155.00 for a $hitter? I know the public ones can get pretty raunchy, but when they were private it was much cheaper. Seems Haney is getting a little long in the tooth for this.Time for him to pass the torch.

For some $155 is not a bad deal;
You know who is using it.
You know that it's clean.
It's just outside your door.
A flash light.
You can have your spray, and the paper or a magazine in there...

Cheep wright? What would 5 days run you at a spa resort?
A hell of a lot more than $155.

Thanks. I went last year but only got half way through and needed a wheelchair. I even thought about buying a bicycle at one of the vendors and riding it around But someone recently told me they don't allow that.

Thats on top of entrance fee + food & water bottles & a beer if so inclined!!! I've talked to alot of of "past' vendors, they aren't going back this yr. so there will be more socks & jewlery $hit being pawned off or to walk by to try & find "car parts'

Everytime someone brings up Burls creek. The same old stories...So to those who don't want socks...Don't buy them
maybe some of the "car guys" should be vendors and bring alot of really nice stuff so people can talk about how You have the best stuff there..
If you're not the solution...you must be part of the problem.
The only thing that bothers me is Cheepskates! and warm beer.

As I understand it......

The spring show is Hainies x wife ( she got it in the divorce)

The fall show is Hainies

One of Hainie's Nephews is one of my repeat customers at Barrie and he tells me that the insurance for only the week of the show costs around 150k. I don't know what the attendance is for the week but that's a lot of coin to recover. I think people would have much rather accepted a 2 dollar gate price increase than an added $5 for parking and they would have made more $$$. I use to go to the custom car shows back in the day (Late 80s early 90s) at the CNE and International center and the price to get in was always $15 and you couldn't buy any cool stuff. Over priced beer nuts and concession foods was it. There might have been car polish to buy:) With the sock and undie sellers I just tell people if you don't want to see that **** at the show, don't buy any of it and tell your wife/GF not to buy any of it either. Do you think they will show up year after yr if nobody's buying?
Barrie Spring and Fall are the best shows of the yr for us and I always find cool stuff to buy every yr.

P.S if you think renting a porta poty is better than using the public one guess again. The public ones get pumped 2 times a day. The personal ones don't get pumped at all. The group across from us last yr had rented one. When the breeze would blow the right way you would just gag. Let me tell you the public ones never smelled that bad.

Dan

What pisses me off are the so-called automotive guys that are there selling junk. Half their stuff should end up in the trash (probably does after the show). Who wants to buy a box of bent and rusty nails , or a box of bearings that's been sitting out in the rain for 3 days for the 5th year in a row? Or how about the guys selling used tires that have no tread left on them? These guys piss me off more than the sock vendors . Atleast the sock vendors are selling something people can use , and these aren't the guys that are drunk at 11am making rude comments to women passing by.

This used to be a good show that we'd attend twice per year.... but with the influx of automotive junk , and the number of drunk ******* vendors , this has gone from a show that was family friendly, to one that some drunk is going to lose his teeth for making a smartass comment to the wrong person.

Wow I am glad to see there are so many people that think like me.
Years ago in my Mopar days I loved to go there and search for cool stuff.
I did not go for about 5 years and then went last year. The whole time I was there I was thinking there is nothing new here for cars.
I am sure I saw the same pile of rust, dust and crap as there was 5 years ago. I walk around for about 3 hours and that was enough. I did get a life time supply of socks for $9.95 and a genuine vinyl but looks like leather belt. so I should be good.

Problem is my buddy needs a lot of cheap parts to finish his car (small budget but great car.) so I guess I will have to hit sock alley again this year.

Anyone recommend any thing good to see there let me know

I suggest stop waisting your time in the clothing tents...leave that to the ladies. Of course the junk is closest to the isle...Try looking behind it...and maybe have more than a $12 budget.
We're headed out soon. hopefully get there before it rains. If you happen to see a Blue '41 chev p/up in the gold field, I'll be the one with the beard.

Well just got back from the show, and let me tell you ... LOTS of empty spaces. This is officially our last time attending. Still lots of junk being sold, lots of drunks and lots of people zipping around on golf carts, quads, scooters etc. Why even make a rule stating none of these vehicles when the park staff does absolutely nothing to stop them? I watched 1 staff member try and get 4 drunks to stop and they just flipped him the finger and continued on their way.. he didn't even attempt to catch up with them on his own quad . We had 1 idiot rip around the camping field on his quad and come within 5 feet of hitting our motorhome ... beer in hand as well.

Gate attendence was noticably low as well. Heard many guys walking saying their going to other shows from now on. The parked screwed people by having them go all the way down the parking field, and when they got to the end told them it was $5 for parking .

We're now going to attend other shows .... anyone got any good suggestions?

tha guy and his pals got arrested so you know.  spring barrie was pretty good, scored some good stuff and sold some stuff as well.  fall is always better.  5 bucks for parking was clearly stated on the signs leading into the parking fields.

I was there today. I noticed less vendors than in the past but I was not sure that it was not because I got there around noon on Sunday. I did not buy anything but that is not unusal for me. I was hoping to find some parts for my '41 9n but the only thing I saw was a set of fenders which were worse than mine. I did see lots of cool stuff and lots of junk but that's part if the fun for me.
I did not notice any signs on the way in saying that parking was $5 but I knew this ahead of time by reading on this forum...thought it was a little odd that you had to drive well into the parking lot before I saw a sign that said the fee was $5 but did not think much if it.

I noticed there seemed to be an abundance of tires this year for some reason...way more than I remember from past years. I am needing a new set for my daily 1500HD chev and was hoping to find a deal on rims and tires but there were no "deals" in my mind...lots of minimum tread tires or tires that looked like they were a number of years old. I saw a few sets that were interesting but not for a price I was willing to shell out for used when I could pay a couple hundred more for new.

A buddy and I went so $5 for parking and $20 for two of us to get in plus our gas to get there was cheap entertainment for a day out.

Weather was **** for the first few days but I now have a wicked sunburn. I,ll be going back in the fall.....
