How much $$$ should painting a truck bed cost?

I have a brand new truck bed for my '48 Chevy, unassembled and still in the boxes. l want to match the paint already on the truck, which is John Deere "Blitz Black" or Flat Black enamel if I remember correctly. The truck was painted when I got it but the bed was not fixed up, it's rusty, has stress cracks and it was given a coat on the outside to make it look/sell better. Valspar, who made the original John Deere paint, now sells the same paint at Princess Auto in water based called flat black impliment paint. It's far from being a show truck but it's mine and I want it to look better.

Anyone have an idea how much a "reasonable" price would be to get these parts painted?

48Chevy and everyone else,
Thanks for the information. I was under the impression that Princess Auto only carried the water based paint when I looked it up on the web site. Do you have a product numer?
How bad does this primer and paint smell. I live a subdivision, have lots of neighbours and a wife that I don't want to tick off!

Carl427,
I'll pay you $500 to paint it! Where's Clinton Ont.?

See, we OPG types aren't cheap!

Since you know what the paint is, why not just set the new bed up on some saw horses and spray it yourself, doesn't sound like your looking for a "perfect" paint job. Didn't think OPG guys worried about pricebiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Lowes carry valspar. less likely to get 3 year old can. Little off topic but the valspar house paint is better then any iv ever used almost makes painting enjoyable.

Doesn't TSC still sell that?? I 've made my own by mixing tremclad gloss black and flat black to get the amount of shine I wanted.

As already been said, try painting it yourself. Go to Princess Auto and get a gravity feed HVLP gun for less than $50. Since the bed is all in pieces, you don't need a big compressor.

to paint your box should cost around $200. Good primer $100 at CarQuest. Gallon of paint at princess auto is $46 I just bought some for my sons truck. Siphon feed spray gun on sale now at princess auto $19.99 hardner $26.00 reducer $30.00.
Note the paint i got from princess auto BARRIE is not water based paint. Its an easy to do at home paintjob with this paint and it is very forgiving!!!

A siphon gun is Ok if it is HVLP other wise you will have more paint in the air than on the project it is called over spray. Here is another tip if you use tremclad or a similar paint just add some urethane hardner and your finish will be bullet proof. It really works

The Primer smells absolutely terrible for about a half hour to an hour after spraying i also live in a small subdivison... Our shop is about a 100ft from the house and you can smell it outside the house but in the house couldnt smell anything. None of my neighbours complained their houses are also about 100ft from the Shop (its not like theyre KM's away LOL). If your garage or shop is connected to your house its probably not the best idea to spray anything in there!

Product # on the Princess Auto Paint is 8306391 for the gloss black its Valspar tractor and implement paint

Yes there is alot of over spray with the Siphon Feed gun but it does a good job for the cheap price. i have been using them for years...

Just painting the box, especially flat black, you will never get it to match the cab.

There is a TSC store in Bowmanville that sells the Farm paint, primer, reducer and hardener. If you catch it on sale its around $30 a gallon!

I used it to paint my chassis and was very happy with the results.

not urethane hardener you need acrylic enamel hardener with tremtrash paint

and i said no siphon feed gun cause 30% of your paint will be wasted overspray.i remember one time someone borroed my primer gun so i used an old siphon gun, never got 3/4 around the car and i was out of primer, with an hvlp i had paint to spare, same amount mixed.get a hvlp even a cheap one,i have a canadian tire el cheapo as well as iwata lph 400.the crappy tire gun is not too bad.if you have a small compressor get the home depot husky it uses little air but its slow.ctc puts a 2 gun set on sale for $50 sometimes
