If it's "one off", how can "they" be on sale soon?? I'm curious too.

I loved that movie, especially the end when the director used a Camaro instead of a Challenger to smash against the bulldozer.biggrinbiggrin

YEAH !! The last 2 pictures clearly show that it was a 67 Camaro that was used for the final crash scene. It makes you wonder why the producers would do that??? Was it because they were on such a low budget, and this car was gotten cheap?? Or was it more of a symbolic gesture and they didn't want to ruin a beautiful Mopar??

Edit;

I found this picture, and an amazing story on the behind the scenes of the movie. Ya gotta love the internet !!smile

The cars were loaned to the movie company. They bought the Camaro cheap.
I'm sure, at the time, that Dodge had the "Rapid Transit" thing going and this improved sales. I know one of the people that delivered the cars. Formerly from Hamilton, now living in LA.

evileye Okay pretty much had enough of this crap. The REAL reason the Camaro was used was as follows:

After repeated failed attempts to get a decent shot of the driver committing hari kari as well as destroying a number of over priced Dudge Challengers. The decision was made to use a superior, built in Canada Chevrolet Camaro. Post production the directors revealed the real reason for the switch, "the Dudge would either pull apart or disintegrate when being cable towed towards the Dozer impact zone from what as later determined to be poor quality frame and body manufacture. After 10 failed attempts we used the Camaro and did the entire scene in one take. The added costs incured with the newspaper, duct tape and bondoing each of the then new Dudge Challengers took a toll on the production budget." Any fool can easily determine this is the truth as it is painfully obvious in the quality of the story and script.

Let's all be honest here kiddies ... the REAL reason is they needed a car that would hit the target, not one that was gonna sway all over the road like a drunken cowboy driving a 3 wheeled stagecoach. THAT is why they picked the Camaro  biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

The Camaro was towed into the bulldozers with one of the four Challengers that were used for the movie. They used the 383 powered one because it was automatic and the other 3 were 440 4-speed cars.

Here's an excellent site on it.

The truth is when the mope hit the ramp it just took off an cleared the cats like it had wings . So they looked around for another white car close at hand , an voila , there was a white Camaro nearby that the owner basically gave them . and the best point of using a Camaro , was it hardly had enuff power to get up the ramps , so they dint have to use that high tech slow motion camera for the final shots which in turn saved them money . its the truth , I got it from the intent ..77.

That just backs up my post of a vehicle , even a bicycle , wont sway at 20 mph even in a side wind . Hence the use of a Camaro . Does any one remember that scene , where the two look at each other for a moment , cool shot , cool poster ..77.
