A guy in West Hill (Scarborough, near Manse and Coronation area) had a "Robbins Egg Blue" Super Bird. I think that colour, on that car, put me off Mopars for life!
When I lived in Scarborough (UGH) a friend of mine on the street next to us bought one. I'm gonna say this is around 1982 because I had my Road Runner. He found this car in a barn, and it was painted silver and (sit down for this) someone had put huge front and rear fender flares on it. He brought it over to my house the day he bought it, and it looked hideous !! It had a 400 with a 4-speed. We deciphered the VIN and fender tag and it was actually a 440 six-pak 4-speed car. The car was actually very solid, and he restored it back to new. I remember in order to finance this car, he offered to sell me his 71 Road Runner 440+6 which was in excellent condition for $2800 !! I kick myself to this day for not buying it.
Atomsplitter mentioned one near Coronation and Manse, but the one I remember from that area was black. This was around 1979 and I went to school with the owner's Son.

yes - when I lived in kIngston as a kid the local dealership had 3 of them, parked half circle nose to nose - sat there for a couple yeras - couldnt get rid of them... then one day all three were gone Fella here in Ennismore has had one under construction for years in his garage - dont know if it will ever see the light of day Was at the Marmora show last summer and saw an olive green one with a newer style hemi in it - I suspect it was a clone
A friend in high school had a 69 Daytona he traded it off for a 55 Chevy 4 door after trying to sell it with no luck. No one wanted those cars they were laughed at and considered stupid.

Friend of my Dad's owned a Chrysler dealership in Oakville back in the 60's & 70's He told me he had a Superbird in his showroom for nearly a year and a half Couldn't sell the damn thing Chrysler made him take one, he said he spent a small fortune on it , to make the fit and finish more presentable.
Buddy still has one, helped him with a full restoration about 5 years ago. Bought it from an older fellow who lived in Muskoka who had owned it since the late 70's.
I remember one sitting and rusting beside a barn in the 80s, I believe it was on Highway 507. I used to think they were ugly, so i never went in to look at it or inquire about it. Anyone remember it, or know what happened to it?

That silver Superbird I mentioned looked exactly like the picture above once restored. Do you know the name of the person that used to own it? It may be the same car.
My friend works for a concrete finishing company in kitchener , his boss has a yellow Superbird and a bronze Daytona The Daytona was in the hall at Moparfest a couple of years ago He found the Daytona in a barn on the east coast It was originally a 440 car but the original motor was gone, it now has a hemi
Don't think so, car was sold new in Ohio, originally yellow, and by 78 had made it's way to Florida and on a used car lot. At that time it was Hemi orange and every bracket, clip, nut, bolt and hinge was chromed. The fellow bought it and kept it at his Florida home, used it when he spent the winter there, then in the early 80's he drove it back to Muskoka. You could tell this fellow owned a marina, installed a rubber primer bulb in the fuel line to prime the carb, keys where on a flottie key fob. He said he drove the car once or twice a year, it sat under a pine tree a lot based on all the needles we cleaned out during the tear down. When my buddy bought the car it had a set of Goodyear GT radials, same type and size the 78 Corvette pace cars came with and the rubber nubs where still on the thread but probably 25 years old.

There was only around 1900 Superbirds made, and because my Buddy's was originally yellow also, I had to ask.
Hemi43 - nice list - however it only shows one bird for Kingston and there were three for a sure fact on that lot back when new
I didn't write the list !! Besides, that list is for Daytonas, not Superbirds as I stated. There was only 503 Daytonas built ever, which IMHO would make that list somewhat correct. Usually 1/10 of production came to Canada.
If you think about it , the daytona list shows a lot of Canadian sales for a car that on a limited sales run ...
Around 50 cars, or about 10 percent. Exactly what it should be !! I think there were 1920 Superbirds made, which an educated guess would put around 190 of them in Canada. Low numbers for sure !!
built from a 1970 road runner. There's radical and there's ugly. Still just my opinion
I think you're right !! I know there was a 1970 model that was not available as a convertible, and someone made one using another car. It may have been a convertible Daytona made from a Road Runner or Coronet. It's been a long time since I used to be in this stuff !!

It wasn't about the styling or looks. It was purpose built so they could go racing, and they dominated until they were banned. Automotive and racing history.

ever see a convertible bird? You probably haven't cause there's onl one. Not for racing either and still ugly.
That's not a factory built one, and if I recall was built from a convertible Charger using 70 Road Runner panels. I agree they are not the best looking cars, but you got to hand to Chrysler for having the balls to build such radical cars. If it wasn't for this kind of thinking at Chrysler, your Prowler would never be more than an artists drawing of a concept car.
I recall Don Garlits had a one of a kind brown metallic one dubbed ''Rootbeer''. The last time I was there was '99, so I'm not sure if it's still there though.

i think chrysler back in the day had the idea of making an already ugly car look even worse. what were they thinking?
The 70 Road Runner was not my favorite either. The 69 was a much better looking car. The 70 Charger however was a beautiful car. Nice grille and nice tail lights.

Agreed, making your product even uglier is not good marketing strategy.
For some reason what I see when I see your username is Fastax. So can you do my taxes?
They had to build them so that Nascar would let them race it. I don't know why they built almost 2000 because Nascar mandated only 500 production cars were needed. The dealers had a difficult time selling them, and some were still on the lots 2 years later. I've heard that some were actually transformed back into Road Runners just so they could be sold.
I wonder how many were used in various forms of racing, wonder how many were destroyed in wrecks and scrapped. It always amazes me how many low production cars actually survive.Thinking about Nomads,Safaries, sedan deliveries, and other wierd things.Only 5 ever made back in the day the add screams, but there are 3 forsale today in Hemmings,59-60 ElCaminos, and some other ones as well as the Birds you are talking about here.If you have the coin, there is probably one of them available someware no matter how few were made origionally. We all have seen the pictures of huge scrapyards full of old cars, actually hundreds of scrapyards and millions of cars I wonder how so many low production cars survived, especially if as has been noted here they werent popular when they were new. I remember there was a Daytona on the used car lot at Lakehead Motors in Thunder Bay. I don't remember ever seeing the car on the road so it may have come from out of town. It had a 440 for sure and I think it was a four barrel. It had a spot of rust on the top of the fender. I think they were asking eleven hundred for it so they would have probably taken less than a thousand. I think this would have been about 1974 so this was just another used car. I knew it was a rare car and I liked Chargers but I thought the nose and big wing made it look stupid,,, so I passed on it.

Im with you on the low production flatblack ..
All 3 major auto makers built some rare cars , the old saying Race on Sunday Buy on Monday .... be it nascar or drag racing ,, Ford with their Boss cars , Chevy with their C O P O .,mopar with their hemis and 69 lift off hood 6 pack cars .. The horse power wars were in full swing , what a time to be a musclecar guy , I got there to late ,
But lucky for me when i got there the muscle cars were rusting away or takin apart in drive ways . My first ford was a 67 289 fairlane , my first chevy a pair of 69 Camaros , 1st mopars 71 challenger R/T sassy grass green car . I was living man ....
my fastest cars , 6 pk cuda and hemi 68 runner ...
so many rare low production cars built ,, lucky 4 us all so many did survive for us to own , I love watching the old dragracing dvd s , 409s 427s,boss 9s t bolts ,
we ve all owned them , we ve all had chances to own them , we ve all gone threw the wrecking yards and found some rare iron ,...
Now your lucky to walk into a yard and find a rwd car
I remember my dad telling me a guy driving either a Superbird or Daytona was killed in London when he rear ended a city bus. I remember seeing a yellow Superbird in Ottawa twice in the mid 1970's
I recall Don Garlits had a one of a kind brown metallic one dubbed ''Rootbeer''. The last time I was there was '99, so I'm not sure if it's still there though.
I couldn't get on the actual Don Garlits web site, but I tracked this site down:
It shows that this is "one of one" in this colour. The list price was $4,790.95 (I think - hard to read that tiny sign). Affectionately known as "The Rootbeer Superbird".

Here is a picture of my Uncles 1969 Dodge Charger 500. It's 1 of 27 built with the 426 Hemi, 4 speed trans and 4.10:1 Suregrip. It's a true 500 Aero car as the R/T package is deleted with the "500 package" added on the factory order sheet. It has the stock 68 Coronet front grill and flush mount rear window. Take this car and bolt on the spoiler and front nose, you have a Daytona.
This thing is quick, 1st and 2nd are useless, but 3rd and 4th work well. It has the 150mph speedo. 6000rpm in 4th gives you 112mph, 6500 gives 122, 7000rpm gives 132mph. At WOT the induction sound is louder than the exhaust. This thing is cherry. It has a lumpy idle, and is still loud even through the dual resonators and dual mufflers.
I am proud to have been in such a rare piece of iron. Notice the Ontario license plate???
Same uncle has a race 426 Hemi that had a Duster running 10.01@ 157mph. My Mom used to pour the gas down the professional massaged dual 1350 cfm Dominators when they would start the engine for a race.
I used to think I missed the big power days" and I did, but the times of making big power EFFICIENTLY is now. We are right in the thick of it, IF you can afford it.

Robin egg? It was black. Paint and interior were returned to original back in in the early nineties. Motor brakes and suspension retain mods for performance sand safety.
The silver bird was owned by tony, the car was really rough. The original owners street raced it and hit a pole that caved in the nose and blew the motor. When it was painted the original owner saw it at a show and cried.
In 1972-73 a used car dealer try very hard to sell me a yellow Superbird for $2,500 that he can long term finance .......years later, discussing with an old timer, he told me that the car was originally lime color ........
In about 1994, I bought the XX29-- 414635 for $250 with $20 down, if I remember correctly (can't find the receipt right now) .....resale the car a few days later for $750.....
The Daytona ended up at Daniel Brisson to keep company with his Superbird........
Here is the transcript of the data plate I took when I first saw the car....the car was empty, no interior, no engine and trans with a '70 Charger front end....

I think that fellow may have had more than one of those cars or he kept repainting the one he had cuz I'm sure I remember a red or orange one and a black one.
