Why not continue using L9s? They are substantialy stronger than grade 8s.

also, I'm not a seasoned racer so I don't know the regulations.

Question for all you seasoned racers out there.

I'm restoring this slingshot dragster I bought in the Fall of last year.

I see that there are "L9" bolts and nuts used for all the fasteners on the car. (Steering joints, front axle mounting, etc.)

Is this madatory by NHRA or IHRA or can I use Grade 8 bolts for replacement?

I haven't been able to find anything in the rule books about it?

Just want to make sure it's right before I get the chassis re-certified.

Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question.evileye

Not to many people stock the L9.
But if that's what I need, I'll source them out.

I've never even heard of L9 before ... kinda thought Grade 8 was tops. Learn something new everyday.

Yeah, I've never heard of L9 either !! I thought the only standard bolt above a grade 8 was grade 12. I'll check my machinery's handbook in the morning.

They are similar to Grade 8 but they have a tensile strength of 180,000 psi compared to Grade 8 at 150,000 psDB188 (3) (Small).jpg
