That Skidoo looks like an upgrade from this Hus-ski.
I remember reading the history of these things and the originals were powered by the chainsaw the trapper used to cut down trees. Just pull off the bar and attach the saw inplace! The seat is hinged and theres a place to store your chainsaw and oil!
There's a family at work from the Pembrooke area and all the brothers have these but they put in riding lawnmower motors. The tracks are conveyor belt with 1"x2" wood slats attached and metal cleats. Check out the picture.

Bombardier is one of our clients and at one time we had a fully restored 1959 from their museum that was pretty nice. It was like the one in this pic. Also the orignal one I posted was bought for $950 at an auction not running, but I don't think it needs much to get going again.

This sled came into my work a few days ago for an exhibit. Just thought it's cool to see and figured some would enjoy. I don't know the year exactly but the auction tag on it says 61-64 ski doo.
Neat pics Scott, those old ski-doos are real collectibles, a number of guys have them restored and operational. Think they were only about 6 HP? A real help to trappers when they first came out,, but they also Left a number of guys stranded a long way back in the bush also!! Lol
Youngest brother has a 65. mostly original. Calls it Timex. Takes a licking, and keeps on ticking. His has an 8 horse Rotax. May not be fast, but it sure has embarrassed a few high dollar machines. That little sucker is really good on hill climbing on hard packed snow. Has Kalamazoo cleats.

No way. I saw one at auction a few years back that looked like new, it still has varnish on the wood slats! It was a chore for the auctioneer to get $400.
Sorry , no pic, but another BIG collectible is the "Sno-Bug" built in Sudbury up to maybe the late 70's?
Rear engine, BIG wide track, metal cleated, single front ski (like an Alpine) a real workhorse. Hydro and a number of mining companies and anyone working outdoors especially trappers liked them.

if any one is taking the trip to the gaspe bay region for a snowmobile trip there is a private museum in murdochville with nothing but snow machines. the town pretty much closed up when the smelter closed down and he bought the high school and made it into a 3 story museum. we stayed in the only hotel in town which he owns and got the invite over to look see. its a snowmobile time machine. if you are into them you have to see this. unbelievable. don't do what we did, no camera, and pre cell phone camera's.
