If you have ever ported a head you know how much work it is

and how little material is usually removed.

this pic is of the material i  just removed from the new race head for my cummins motor - and yes - all of it from one head

the Bud can is to put perspective on how big the pile really is lol

the pile weighs about a pound

biggrin

gains - about 400 hp give or take

why the cummins - it is my truck pulling motor which stock makes about 160 hp - the motor this head is going on will be making in excess fo 1200 hp

mmm - where to start to answer your question

Everyone who is racing a 12v 6BT cummins is doing similar head porting to one degree or another - me in particular - I am doing something that hasn't been done before - as usual - I am known for my out of the box and innovative design and fab work for performance engines among other things (for example I designed and built the worlds only 6 barrel carb - flows 2000cfm - long storey)

the stock port size wont allow the width of one finger - intake or exhaust - they are so choked up for low rpm torque - new head allows all four fingers

Stock head flows some 125 cfm at best at racing type boost pressures of approx. 45 psi boost- the commercial ported stuff around 220 cfm, and mine in the 260cfm range

forced induction - we are making 65 psi boost, not the stock 12-15psi or even the average 45 psi race boost - that translates into the hp difference in many ways - think garden hose vs firehose, and then add the psi difference

:)

how can porting the head gve so much more power?  being forced induction to gain 400hp by doing that must mean the cummins head must flow so poorley there must be some major design flaws with the cummins head design.  there has to be more to it than just porting the head?  if such power is too be had from a head job everyone who has a cummins should be doing it

The motor is in my 96 F350 purpose built pulling truck.
trans is an NV4500 standard trans that we run in high gear only

the link will show you a truck pull - it is a few years old and is the first iteration of the truck - which is now a dually, and sits lower to the ground
