I worked for Van Masters for about 3 yrs back in the early 70's. They got new trucks directly from the factory then did a complete customizing job on them before going to the dealer.

if the time ever comes you can't see it, you can lay on your back and do it from underneath.
My older brother was big into vans back in the day. In 1979 he ordered brand new a 1979 Dodge with the "Streetvan" package. Black with a nice red interior with high back buckets. It had a 360 and the nice Streetvan emblems on the doors and the same chrome slot rims that came on Little Red Express trucks. When the van arrived he did the interior in button tucked red velvet with a bed in the back and a cabinet behind the driver seat. He left the exterior black but had an exterior spare tire on one of the back doors with a hard cover on it painted with "Black Sabbath" on it. Some of you into vans back then maybe have crossed paths with him. It was a fellow from Niagara Falls who was into vans and heavy into pinstriping who painted the spare tire cover.
The Streetvan package came with the full size paper templates which made finishing the walls in the inside of the van quite easy.
Later on he swapped the factory rims with Cragar S/S rims and then he massaged the engine a wee bit with a cam swap, headers, holly carb and dual exhaust.
He travelled all over to van ins all over the northeast US and Canada. They were quite the parties apparently!

just as an FYI, in canada, especially Ontario Vanners are still alive and well...in fact they have vanfest this weekend near London ontario... its a weekend long party....
i'm a vanner(former).....i love the old 70s van..how can you go wrong with a half nekid woman riding a tiger on the side of a van???
Many times at my old place that was very private, on real hot days i just rode the ridin mower in my boxer shorts, way cooler that way!! ( I did wear my work boots though!! ) Lol
Grumps, you need to tell them the story of how you ended up in the first gay pride parade in Toronto with your friend Ed...in your donkey dink pink van! LOL
I was one of the first few who started HDV (Hamilton District Vans) around 1975, there were truck'ns everyweekend in ontario from may to october, the difference between vanners and rodders back then we supported only 1 truck'n per weekend, not everybody was having several events the same weekend, so every truck'n was well supported with at least 500 vans or more, man can i tell you stories and experiences, hahaha thats a whole new thread, well sorry 2 say i never really left vanning, i always supported my bros and sisters and we have welcome for years classic and custom trucks panels and sport trucks
bikers are 1%ERS vanners are 2%ERS, if i have 2 xplain lucy u aint a vanner
As for my present van i must say its 1 of 3 built and the only one left rolling, it was a concept vehicle built in Detroit, in the late 70s and registered with title in 1980, its fully loaded and has only 55,000 miles on it, its a 1 Ton Ford EconoVanUp Club Wagon with a 460 cubic inch motor
hey what ever happened to the boogie band, they would walk and party from camp site to camp site all nite long and pick up more partiers along the way, by the time they get 2 your camp site you could have a 100 more new friends rock'n your van if your passed out and don't dare passout at your campsite fire be prepared 2 get your fingernails painted by the badddd girls lol
how about the melon heads, they contribute all sorts of alcohol and inject it into this water melon then fill it with various drugs on Friday nite and eat as a appetizer saturday to get prepped for a even bigger party saturday nite............
highway 6 north between clappison corners and fergus was know as truck'n alley
hey grumps maybe u and i should sit down with a bottle of tequila and a case of beer and reminess
lol yes the good old daze, dazed and confuzed.........
Ahhhh the good old days of the "Shaggin Wagans".....lol....when I think of those road trip cruise machines it brings back those images of stale aftershave, 8 tracks, fun fur dashes, CB's and side burns........plus camping at the Pinery Provinal Park on a 24 weekend with Donna Summers blasting from out of the speckers on top of my buddies van........groovy man......fun times for sure.
