Insurance Spy in your car

Folks, Let's hope this doesn't become legislation eventually and let's hope in the meantime people aren't stupid enough to sign up for this: http://www.desjardinsgeneralinsurance.com/d-on/en/insurance-products/auto-insurance/pages/auto-insurance-program.aspx

Better not be spinning your tires, speeding, accelerating too fast, or braking too hard. Better not take your car too far either or the Insurance Spy will catch ya!

Personal transportation is going to get very impersonal if this keeps up. Fred

Yeah I see all the ads for these things. "Can save up to 25%"

They don't mention they can also use it to bump your rates up for what they consider bad driving.

There is no way this could become mandatory. The privacy folks would have a field day.

'There is no way this could become mandatory. The privacy folks would have a field day.'

The Privacy folks can't keep up with this government. Did you know that if you want your Dentist to administer antibiotics in Ontario that the government is insisting that the Dentist have your driver's licence on record? When my dentist told me there was a rule change and I needed to give them my driver's licence number, I told them I don't drive, and just what does the highway traffic act have to do with my teeth anyway? Obviously this is a way for the government to keep tabs on Dentists and fraud, but it stinks nevertheless. Fred

If they are prescribing restricted drugs(same go's for your doctor) and you report that for any reason you lost conciseness they are bound by law to report you to the MTO . You can kiss your license good by for at lest a year even if the doctor or dentist screwed up and gave you to high a dose or something you are allergic to. Must be to hard of work for the ministry to Look up your name and address.

I know I am going to get some **** for this, but I would almost welcome semi-yearly "Safety" checks. Nothing like a full blown safety, but a check to make sure all the lights work, brakes are in good order, not huge holes in the body etc.

To many yahoos on the roads without any working brakes lights, and when you politely let them know they have NO brake lights they usually reply with an "Oh I know"

Well if you know, fix your ****ing lights! Of course if you rearend that person its your fault.......

When I lived in North Carolina, inspections were mandatory, you could not renew your plates without a valid inspection sticker, if I recall it was a 2 year deal, been a while.  Cost was $14.95.

^^ I'd say to the insurance company in question: You want it certified? YOU pay the cost! Still want my business? (I would pay for anything required to make it safe- but not the safety itself).

A certification is required by LAW when newly taking ownership.
An insurance company asking for it is merely POLICY - it's not law.

On a side note: Our cars should be safe anyway, and should breeze right through an inspection, it's just the principle of it - almost bullying!

If you don't follow their rules, they will not insure you, and going to a different company won't help because they're all the same. Insurance companies don't have to follow laws. Take heating oil tanks for example; TSSA says that oil tanks have no expiration date as long as they are not leaking, but insurance companies are going above this law/rule and making some customers replace their tanks after they are 10 years old even though they are in mint condition.

Agree, and apparently some companies want the oil tank inside, some want it outside!!!!!!!!! Know of two cases of that BS!

keeper,
I beleive Nova Scotia have manditory yearly safety to sticker your plate each year.

As for brake lights, unfortunately the law states that as long as ONE light is operational, you are still good. Stupid, yes... but the law.

Motor cycles have one tail light. two would be stupid. as far as I know you can still use hand signals as long as you signal your intentions your good to go. If your following someone and they are slowing down its fairly obvious if your not texting on the cell phone eating you lunch and watching the news.
