Grumper,
getting out is no problem ....the big problem is getting IN! there's only 2 ways in, 1 from the east along Elviage Rd to his front door and from the west using Commissioner's rd to Gideon then a left onto Woodhull, and a left onto Elviage rd. The west route is best cuz all the spectators come in from the east.

Sasquatch,

I've known Steve for a good number of years and nobody really knows how much Steve contributes to all kinds of charities.  He just does and goes on about his business. His collection is becoming second to none with the addition of the 58 Pontiac convertible and the 47 Cadillac concept car.  And when you open the center fold of the book 100 Years of General Motors, that's his car  a 1 of 3, '38 Cadillac V16 roadster. There's another car in the works but ya know.... Shhhhh!

I plan on coming down with the falcon on saturday, I'm just trying to figure out my schedule around some family obligations that evening. What's the best time to get there and is it easy to leave at around 3:30 - 4:00?

I was there a few years ago, and Car Crazy did a piece on my car. Pretty nerve racking being in front of a camera.
It's too bad it always rains on this event, because it's probably one of the best car shows in Canada.

I'll be heading out first thing tomorrow morning, looks like Sunday would be the better day for weather though.
This will be my first at this event, I've missed it other years due to other events.
I'm looking forward to it.

dam! it is this weekend. its on my list of ones i want to go to. brother-in-law bugs me every year to come down. he apparently knows this guy and says i should see it. funny, he hasn't been in my ear to go this year. humph! maybe sis put a work order in front of him or there is trouble in paradise. hope not. i would lose my free accommodations with secure parking for a couple of things down that way.
have fun guys and enjoy. its suppose to be a must see event. hope the weather co-operates for you.

Made the show today myself as a first timer. Kind of like Gazoo, not quite what I expected, but not bad either. I'll go back again sometime, maybe take in the dinner dance with the better half next time. Got to talk to Swag for a few minutes when I picked up my Ontario Rodder plaques, and seen a few cars I recognized from the site, but didn't see anyone around them. The one car I was looking for and didn't see any..not a one, was an Edsel. We're restoring a 58 Pacer at the shop, and I wanted to get a look at a couple of areas to verify what I think is correct. But there were none to be found. Oh well!!

Just got back from Plunkett's place. Great show, probably 2500/3000 cars and more spectators than you'd want to count. I hope all the vendors. pinstripers etc. did well
I know I saw Fordy Acres there with his trusty camera. I sure hope he posts some pics of the show!
Come on Steve show us yours!!!

I just got back myself, but sad to say, it sure didn't live up to expectations. I personally like Ancaster/Waterdown/Moparfest/Graffiti better. We only took like maybe 10 pics. I was there at 11am and by 1pm, I'd had enough and left.
It was alright in my opinion, but nothing I'd be sorry I'd missed. I can't see there being 2,000 cars there, maybe 1,500 cars.
After driving 1 1/2 hr to get there pay $10. for parking and $10. each to get in, I just don't think it was worth it myself.
Very nice Cadillac and petrolia collection.
I'm trying hard (honest) to find something great to say, weather was OK, it didn't really rain, wasn't freezing and scorching hot...

I know (from experience) it's very difficult to organize such events and it takes a lot of people to make it happen.
But right from the get go, pulling in to park, was a tad sketchy, I think a killed my upper balljoints driving through the field with my Dakota, and the fellow that was right in front of me bashed his bush bar and front bumper trying to park in his '12 Avalanche, he had a couple hand fulls of weeds and dirt stuck in it.

Show car parking was somewhat chaotic also, as you couldn't pic a line walk down it, then back up the other way. There was only a few areas where I found some organization, the Thunderbird club, the Crossfire club and the transport trucks, everything else was anything and everything.

Maybe I missed out on something, but that pretty much sums up my rookie experience.

Oh, and Will, saw your rod there as I crossed the bridge, took a few couple pics of the Amphicars and the Labatt's truck (who doesn't like an old beer truck), but never came back around the bend, the old girl was looking for the Potties, LOL, I kinda had to follow.

I was parked under that shade tree for three days.  Real great to meet a number of the members from this Forum.

Sunday turned out to just be a perfect day - lots of people and 1000 cars that were not there on Saturday.

I actually got to meet Ken Watters from Springfield Ontario.  It was his brother Jack that in 1959 found this roadster in the Port Burwell area and sold it to Michael O'Byrne for $35.00.  Michael then turned this old car into the "hot rod" that is still around today, 58 years later.  There is a whole lot of history with the Watters family and their love for drag racing, stock cars and just about any kind of racing just as long as it was powered by Chrysler.

There are two sitting at a farm between Harriston and Clifford. They have been there for a few years and I am sure they would be just "parts cars".  PM me if you would like some more information.

I did say I was disappointed, merely because it was NOT what I expected, certainly not what is publicized, that's why I was disappointed. I never said it wasn't a good show, it was alright, not the cats A** but good.

I can certainly appreciate the effort put in by all the volunteers and groups to put this together, there just simply seemed to be no rhyme or reason as to wear vehicles parked, anything from rat rods to trailer queens mixed in with overnight campers...next to the food concessions, kinda of a mixed ball. One second you want to take pics, walk ten steps, you're walking through a line up for Hot Dogs...

Maybe my expectations were to high, but usually the wife takes 100's of pics, and I mean 100's, it just didn't happen. So obviously she kinda shared my opinion, having taken only 20 or so pics. Most of them at the entrance to Steve's place, things you won't see at other shows, like the Bat mobile, George Barris' cars, and other '70's customs.

It's simply not on my list of "Just have to go to events", like Syracuse.

I do love to see the proceeds to the show going to the Plunkett foundation, it's a great cause, and my hat off to him for doing so.

Glad you enjoyed it Carl.

I'm not really sure what you were expecting from the show Gazoo. The venue is a golf course in Steve's back yard - rows are nearly impossible. I guess he could just flatten it all out, pave it and put lines on it for organized parking, but it seems a bit much for one weekend of the year. Personally, I love the setting- a breath of fresh air from baking on a hot tarmac. The Otterville show is very similar on a smaller scale with the cars all mixed in together on an odd shaped lot. Most shows with no judging don't have designated parking areas for certain makes, models or years/decades. Come to think of it, the Hot Rod Power Tour is a 'park it where you like' event too, and all cruise nights as well. I like it that way. Otherwise you'd skip over the Vettes, Stangs and Imports and miss lots of cool stuff - I know I've been guilty of it myself, but glad I looked sometimes when I find a cool fabbed part, idea, or such, even if it's on an import!

Being a local show in someones back yard is not really fair to compare to Syracuse or a Goodguys event, but what does this show have that the others don't? It's local! No 6 to 10 hour drive to get there and I was impressed by the wide variety of rides people brought out to the show - apparently there were about 1000 more cars on Sunday due to the sunny weather - 1000 cars that I missed out on because I only went Saturday :^(

I sure hope Steve keeps the show going for many more years to come!

I don't want to start any rumors, but I did overhear an old gal saying, (while I was in the museum) she was talking to Steve's wife, and Steve will not likely be doing the show anymore.

I don't know if she was talking about Plunkett, but it sure sounded like it. Will the show still go? Likely still will, but Steve's collection open to the public, probably not, and his involvement in organizing minimized, is what I'm thinking.

I certainly hope they still keep the show going, it's obviously cherished by many, and it's a great fund raiser.

I heard the same story from a few show goers on Saturday as well. I refuse to believe it until the man himself makes an official announcement. Hopefully it's just a baseless rumour!

It is a fact, I did hear the old gal say that, so did my wife, LOL. And like Fordy Acres said, he's heard that also. So in theory, I'm not the one starting the rumor.
All kidding aside,I personally believe that; whether or not Steve does the show next year, there will still be a show, but he himself will not be involved in organizing it, etc..., having said this, from what I hear, it's not the first time he's said this.
Getting this size show organized is nearly a full time job, there's tons of things going on in prepping for these events, it does take it's toll on you after a while.
I've done this myself, for the last 10 yrs, turned around and said, I'm done with this, let someone else do it next year..., but I just can't not do it.
There's just too many sponsors, volunteer groups, charities, etc... involved to just end, it'll be a yearly event regardless.

Yes I have - one of the most down to earth millionaires I've had the pleasure of speaking with! I didn't even see him at this event- likely extremely busy I'll bet! Your best bet to meet AND actually hold a conservation is to come out to the Thursday night cruise -in at his place and hope he's home and in a mingling mood.

The shows he has put together so far have raised just under ONE MILLION dollars for charity. Not much more needs to be said.
