Talk about collecting tools ,,, i have always wondered,,,

Where did ALL the old mechanics and body mens tools and tool chests go over the years??

There has to be thousands of these tradesmen that have died off over the years, so "WHERE" did all the tools and tool chests go to??????

Surely they couldn't have been sent for scrap and melted down??

I have my dad's just a small chest with a lid that opens in the middle with a top tray. When I had my shop I gave the snap-on dealer my dad's favourite tool a late 40's 3/8 ratchet,it had a couple teeth missing and I asked if he could replace the gear,no problem but it is not like the new ones so I'll have to send it in,I never saw it again,he gave me a new to try to make up for it but that never came close. Stupid me I would never had used it anyway.

I have my Grandfathers wood machinist box . When he gave it to me it was locked so I ask do you have the key. He laughed and gave me the what the hells wrong with you boy look. So it was my first lock picking experiment and I finally just ended up making a key with a file . All sorts of treasure from the war years still in their along with my favorite tool a center finder his father had made. Looks to be an apprentice job as it also Carry's the date as well as his name on it. Still use them today. Thats the reason he gave them to me.

I still have all my Dads woodworking stuff and all his tools

(He didn't have too many car tools) but was a great motor mechanic

I think of him every time I use his level or skill saw

I wish he could see me building stuff ):

Nice, then you know who owned and cared for them, and possibly a story or two behind them.
