Recently I've been thinking it's time to sink some money into my falcon and adding some power. However, the front end is quite weak and would need all new v-8 spec parts that aren't cheap so I'm leaning towards a gasser style straight axle. (The extra room for a big block really helps too) Thing is, all the fab shops I know are really high dollar places or don't really do the sort of work I'm looking for. So I was hoping someone here would know of a shop within a reasonable distance to the KW area I could go to for a quote. I also need a place that does weather stripping because personally I don't wanna break the windshield on a weekend and have to drive the sucker to work wearing goggles or something like that if I screw up.
It's to bad your only looking at that end of Ontario. There are a few shops around this area that would tackle that for you with a reasonable price tag. First to mind for me would be to try Candys Hot Rod shop in Kingston. You'll find his info on this site. Maybe in the intro area......
lots of information if you google -ford falcon straight axle conversion . I think I heard Candy's is booked for two years ? I think if you do some research and collect everything you need and have it prepared. a good shop wouldn't be long putting it together. really its the only way to keep the price some what reasonable . At the end of the day if you ever want to sell its nice to get back some of your investment.
Rob Purcell out of Harrison did all my metal work, my axle, built my headers, radiused the rear wheel wells, floors, trunk. Hell he rebuilt the whole car! Great guy to work with, he knows his stuff, and he's reasonable. I think Harrison is near you. You won't be disappointed! This pic is the day I picked my car up after he was finished.
having done a straight axle Falcom many years ago and not ever liking the results - I would offer that for about the same money you can buy a bolt in Mustang II type front end with awesome steering and disc brakes etc Any window shop should be able to re n re your windshield for a new seal - they just cut the old one so the glass lifts out, then install it back in with the new seal
Gas Mask try schwartz Inc here in Bloomingdale. Give Grant a call at 519-741-4130 or go see him at 841 Sawmill Road and than see Greg out front about your windshield.
Hey, I totally agree!! Just because it's not what I would use, doesn't mean they're cool to look at.
I really like what you did with your car, especially the perfect straight body and nice paint. Seems like everyone is going for that "patina" look these days so it's nice to see a car with some reflection to it for a change.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've got some places to call now. Also I've seen the speedway kit, but I can only imagine shipping would be quite expensive.

I've been thinking the same thing !! Why put 1920's technology into 1960's cars?? I guess I just don't get this whole "nostalgia" fad.
You can have a straight axle Gasser style with many options for disc brakes from metric GM to Willwood, SSBC and lots more. Steering stabilizers take the Death Wobble away and if you want you can use the Unisteer rack and pinion. Nothing wrong with the nostalgia look with modern technology! Do your own thing and enjoy.

Set up right a straight axle will work just as well as anything . You don't hear about bump steer and speed wobble being a problem with transport trucks and there are a lot of them on the road. poor planing and crappy steering geometry is what gives them a bad name. It won't float down the road like a 60s caddy but thats the hole point.
