Nice trailer. What do you figure the materials cost?? If you don't mind me ask'n. I need a new one to pull behind my tractor for yard work (smaller than what you built) and wondered whether it is cheaper to buy or bui9ld. Of choice homemade will be stronger. And also...that is a sweet paint booth ya got there. I didn't realize you had that in the shop. very nice. What product was the white paint you put on first? Sealer, Epoxy, etch??
Thanks for post'n your project
Rich

Nice build!!! I built my 6x10 way back in '99 for about $700 and it has been through a lot including a wreck. Insurance gave me $1250 to fix it, which I did for the whopping cost of $0 - mostly straightening bent tubing, spare wheels and tires I had laying around and new sides salvaged from an old barn we tore down here on the Car Farm. It's still serving me very well - I use it weekly and sometimes daily. Absolutely, hands down, no doubt about it the best -$500 I didn't really have to spend!!!!!!
It could use a new marine grade pressure treated plywood floor though, but hey, I'm still up $500!(the first one lasted over 14 years and would likely still be in good shape if not for the wreck)
The only regret you will ever have with a high quality utility trailer will be if you go ape $h!t crazy and sell it!!!! (DON"T)

I figured it cost about $1000 for everything. It's built like the Russians used to build stuff, and should survive a nuclear blast.
All the paint I used was at least 15 years old, because I still had some kicking around. Over bare steel or aluminum I used an etching primer (810r) which is no longer available. It contains 50% phosphoric acid which is why you don't even need to sand the metal because this stuff bites right into it. On top of that (white stuff) is Dupont DTM epoxy primer, and then base coat with Dupont 4700 Hyper clear on top. Like I said, all old stuff, but still sprays like it was new.
When doing a car, you have to be carefull using etch primer because body fillers don't stick well to it. If I was going to do a car, I would sand the the metal, etch by hand, then apply Dupont DTM right over the metal . All body work should be done OVER the epoxy including the application of body fillers.
I don t think Canadian tire sell anything similar..............they may have some cheaper $$ but the build cheap ...........next time you get bored you can take any of my project .......a $1000. dollars was that including the hydro for the welder and the shop?
good for u hemi. i wish i could. i've got all the tools and equipment to do it, but, all i am lacking is the testicles to give it a shot. someday when the other half gives them back to me i am going to try something on that big of a scale.
Canadian Tire trailers are the China of trailers.....look good but are weak and useless....build your own and know what you are getting.......Made in CANADA !
Trailers are fun to build. I was bored last spring so I built this one. Cost me $450 including real trailer tires. Yeah I was lucky as I had an axle and spindles someone threw out and a friend gave me the 2x3 used tubing and such. Why would you build when you could buy?? Whew! Smack yerself on the head with a hammer! Building or creating stuff from your own design is probably the most fun one can have. Tis what keeps me going everyday.
