She came back from shopping billowing white smoke, exhaust broken and oil leaking on the driveway.
I asked he if she went offroading with it but I got the death-stare as a reply. Apparently there may actually be a hole in my forehead as I type this! Oh, I found out the same night that when my daughter had it away last weekend the LOW OIL light came on so she decided it wasn't a problem so she drove it another 2 days and a 200 kilometer return trip on the 401. Aren't kids just a bundle of joy?!?
I already found a replacement, another Buick Century, a 2005, certified and e-tested with only 52,000k!
Picked it up for what the repairs would have cost on the 2003.....Sweet!

You seem to be taking it pretty well though - better than I would it seems. Good for you on the positive attitude, sense of humour and the deal on a replacement!

Had a daughter do the same to a 89 Bonniville we had.Another daughter put our Malibu into a deep ditch.Once found out my son had racked up a pile of parking tickets on our car he was using at school, when I went to get plates for our other car. Then there was the video rental late fees I always seemed to end up paying for when they used to rent movies from Blockbuster.Calm or resigned its one of the things you have to take in stride .It may not seem funny now but you do get to bring this stuff up over and over again just to embarrass them all thru there lives. I was taught.....from a very young age general maintenance at bare minimum on vehicles. No maintenance.......no driving!!!
It should be part of drivers test.....but its not. I wouldn't think of sending either of my kids boy/girl out there without knowing they had basic info. So If you have young/new drivers (male or female), please teach them at least enough to keep them and us safe. What the warning lights on the vehicle mean and what could happen If not addressed....or god forbid, they need to change a tire.
It may have also helped that i had to buy/pay/fix my own cars/trucks motorcycles or any toy's as well.I bought it, I broke it. I went back to work to pay for the parts and fix it! Must admit.......breaking them was more fun sometimes.

ain't that the truth ed. "It may not seem funny now but you do get to bring this stuff up over and over again just to embarrass them all thru there lives." Ed
and its nothing most of us hadn't done at one time or another. i know mom took some of my sins to the grave with her. we were both too nervous to tell dad.
After reading this I'm glad I never had any Kids!!! They wouldn't have lived long enough to go to School after getting their drivers lic. if that happened in my household!!!! How could anyone drive a car with the "oil" light on????? & not check it, or have someone that could, check!!!!!

This must be a common problem, a friend's daughter drove her little car into the dad's hunt camp, drove over a rock stickin up, knocked the drain plug outta the pan, kept goin, end of engine.
This goes back a few years .I get a call at work from my wife saying she had run into my old 53 Chev custom while backing out of her parking space beside it.I say is there much damage, she says there is a long crese in the side and the back bumper is hanging down.So all day I'm stewing how could this happen ,how am I going to fix this, what is it going to cost etc.Longest trip home ever finally ends and I get out to see the damage.I'm looking and she comes out and stands there not saying a thing.I look at the bumper its OK,I look down the side, its OK no dents just a big scratch .So I say to her where is all the damage all I see is this scratch and I can probably buff that out.She says that is all there is but if I had told you I sratched the car you would have been really mad at that.So I stood there thinking, I've been had, and she walked away smiling. Ed
my sister called her hubby,
she was driving her car, backing out of the garage and hit his car, bent the door and ripped a piece of wood from the wall.
He comes home his car has a dent near rear bumper but the door is fine. She comes home later with the seat belt extended all the way with the end clipped over the lock bknob to hold the door closed when she went shopping. while exiting the garage with the door open it caught the wall and went right around to the the head light. The door closed had a 12" door gap.
