I'm new to all this, so can I ask... what's so special about these wheels? (genuine interest)

Mostly used as a transition from wire or wood to the modern style rims. popular between 35 to 45 . one of them things you like or hate. As always originals are the first choice after market are available but none that I know of are 100 % correct

16 and 17 inch artillery wheels are pretty common to find ,but expensive for tires

15 inch are really tough to find

I was  looking for 1  -15 inch  artillery rim at Barrie market and never found one

I already have 3

although I probably looked at over 30 artillery rims at the market all were   - 16 and 17 inch rims

 Thanks Slim.

So, back in the day they were pretty common, but now they're pretty rare, because no-one ever thought they would become rare, lol.

I'm seeing that happen with the original Mazda MX5 already. Fantastic little car, and best selling convertible sports car ever, but finding a rust free example today is pretty hard, and they are only 23 years old!!

Yes my bearded friend, a Mazda.

If it's any consolation, they stole the design from an old Lotus.
